In 1952, H.A. Rey released the third installment of the Curious George series: Curious George Rides a Bike. While on the surface Rey’s text appears an innocent exploration into the forays of a happy-go-lucky monkey, under the surface much darker themes lurk.

I remember Curious George fondly from my childhood, and I am now reading them to my daughter, who likes them equally well. She can relate all to well, I think, to a curious, naughty little monkey who gets in trouble despite a good heart...This is one of my favorites in the series, although now she will insist that we make paper boats, and I have special relation issues…alas…

I wonder what it is that little kids find so appealing about the Curious George books. Is it that George is a darn cute monkey? I know every time I see him, I just want to cuddle him. Is it because George has naughty adventures but still gets love and acceptance, even after he has screwed up colossally?

This is an excellent book to teach children how to follow directions. As usual, Curious George goes against all the rules as he ruins the newspapers that he is supposed to deliver on a paper route. On his travels, he decides to use the newspapers to create paper boats. There are very detailed directions and illustrations provided that explain how to follow along and make your own paper boat. Teachers can use this book to introduce a lesson on Origami and make a connection between art and lit...more
soon as i clicked on the pic, i knew. ha ha ha ha! i read this one when i was in the 2nd grade. mrs. burge, my second-grade teacher--who mayhap is related to roland (he of the dark tower) was a kind of gunslinger--she wore only two fingers and a thumb on one hand.

This is a charming book in the Curious George series, a particular favorite from my husband's childhood. As an added bonus, the book contains instructions for making paper boats, something that developed my husband's interest in origami.

This curious George is a classic and deffintly teaches a lesson about listening and following directions. I would read this book to my students at the beginning of the year to show them how important rules are and I would also read this book when students forget about rules. You could also use this book when working on predictions because students can predict what will happen after George does something that he maybe shouldn't have done.
I am rating these children's books according to the favor of my 2 yr-old grandson, and his father, as I saved three of the serious from my son's early years. My dear grandson, Sweetie-Pie, likes George Rides a Bike the best of all. The edition we read is 30 years old, with the black & white illustrations.
A bit long and nonsensical, George goes from riding his bike, to delivering newspapers, to creating boats from the newspapers, to being in a circus-- what? How weird as are many of the early George's but who cares because that monkey is so darn cute.
This book is okay. It is a great adventure, but I feel like the story kind of drags on. It is very comical as well. The illustrations however, are odd; they are all in black, white, and red.
i realy enjoyed this book. the reason i like this book because its humorous and it has alot of funny images. such as him doing a paper route, being in a circus act, and saving a bear.
Curious George gets a bike, delivers papers, and performs in the circus. But of course he turns half his newspapers into boats and feeds his bugle to the circus ostrich along the way!
I enjoyed reading Curious George rides a bike very much. I believe that it helps to teach children to listen to adults and to always think about the consequences of their actions.
We especially liked the directions on how to fold a paper boat. We made quite a few and floated them in our bathroom sink.
One of my favorite childhood books. I made many newspaper boats when I was young, and now my kids follow in my footsteps
Curious George always is getting into trouble and it's time for more trouble when he gets a bike.
It's about when CG gets a new bike and I really like because it's really fun.
This was one of my favorite stories as a kid. I love Curious George!

well, what can i say? it rocks. it never ceases to amuse. it made me want to have apaper route and yellow cruiser. i finally got the paper route; it was one of my favorite jobs EVER. still working on the yellow cruiser.

My daughter loves Curious George. My daughter also just got a new bike. What if she tries to ride it Bronco Style like George because she wants to wear a green coat and play a bugle in the circus? See what a bad, bad influence George is? My daughter was thisclose to being in the Emergency Room!
Probably my favorite of the Curious George series. There's nothing like the thrill of those first few feet traversed on a two-wheel bike sans training wheels or dad's hand on the seat. Wheeeeee!
