This one was better than the previous 2.

Barak is an Other who came across the barrier and actually saved Laurel's life. But noone but Laurel trusts him and Devilin is not happy with him working in the same lab as Laurel.

lacey Sebastian is a scientist, geology and vulcanlogy and Barak is sent to her as an assistant. And what happens sets the pages on fire. But they are also still trying to figure out who is trafficing the blue stones from the Others world into ours.

Just like the other 2, it will...more

Morgan's paladin books are really quick reads, usually less than a day, and pretty straight up romance, with a fantasy twist (an essential component for me). I keep reading in large part because I actually want to know how the whole overall story will be resolved. I never even though romance novels really had stories...

While I was never a fan of romance, I'm finding I like it, if I'm in the right mood. However, it really is all about the mood, because while it is sound and engaging, there is no...more

I have to say, Alexis Morgan's Paladins of Darkness series is really starting to grow on me. I had some critical issues with the first two books, Dark Protector and Dark Defender, that kept them from being truly stellar reading experiences for me (I liked both, but I didn't love them and rated each three stars)...and in truth, I thought there were a few in this book as well, but Barak's story is by far my favorite of the first three books.

Barak, the Other who saved the handler Laurel's life in D...more

In the third book of Paladins of Darkness we find the story of Barak, an Other. As one of the Paladins sworn enemies he should have been killed on sight when he crossed the barrier but as a result of having saved Dr. Young in book 1 (Devlin's lover) he has been allowed to stay on this side of the barrier.

When Devlin decides he no longer wants Barak working along side Laurel in the medical wing, he transfers him to the geology labs to work with Lacey Sebastian. The sister of a Paladin, she has g...more

4-1/2 stars- I'm loving this Paladins series! I can't believe I never found these sooner. I've devoured the first three in the last week. I thought I would take a break after this one but the ending left me hanging...how dare Ms. Morgan do that? LOL. All I can say is- I'm glad that I don't have to wait for book 4 to be published. I guess that's one plus to not having found the series sooner- not having to wait between books.

I just love Barak and was so thrilled that his story was book 3 in the s...more

3.5/5 The few problems I had with this book were that there was little build up in Barak & Lacey's relationship, not enough information about why & what Barak's secrets about himself & his people are, & not satisfying enough of an ending in the relationship. But the annimosity between the Paladins & Barak as an Other was well done, along with the changes in attitudes that evolved throughout the book. Barak was also definitely a sexy character & the chemitry between him &...more

I don't know what it is about this series but the supposed sexiness isn't working... I persevere in the hope and because there's quite good stuff beyond the romantic relationship, a la the clash of cultures and why no one on the Paladin side gives much thought to the why/how/environment/social structure of their opponents/close kin yet the primary character of this novel, Barak, is trusted so readily this side of the barrier. Not sure I get that either. And surely it's about time the blue garnet...more

This book just felt all wrong to me. The writing style was not appealing and the characters jumped between "I hate your guts, I'm going to kill you" to "Let's work together to do this, you're tolerable to be around." And it was one hell of an emotional roller-coster ride with them.

I will give the book credit - it explained what had occurred in the previous books in a way that I understood and was interested in the previous books and the books that were ahead of it. The plot of this book was enga...more

I was abit wary about starting this series as i've read some off reviews. After finishing the 1st book I quickly bought and anxiously awaited the following 3.

I've really enjoyed this series thus far. It's good to change it up... While i seem to be a dedicated PNR reader these days it's good to change it up here and there and still keep it in genre. This book to me does that, It's PNR with twists!

I love how each book carry's on from the next and unfolds more of the story with each book.

I like the...more

Each book that I've read in the series has been good so far. I started off with the seventh in the series and held off on getting the first in the series only because the review didn't seem to capture my interest. I am glad i changed my mind about reading book one in the series I'll have to re-read the seventh in the series because of the continued mystery and the follow up on the characters from previous books. Yes i would recommend reading the series n order not because you have to but because...more

In Darkness Reborn is the story of Barak, an Other, who we met in book one of the series when he saved Dr. Laurel Young’s life. Dr. Young has done her best to keep Barak safe with the backing of the leader of the Seattle Paladins, Devlin Bane...

Barak, Barak, Barak. *sigh* The men in this series just keep getting better and better. In my mind anyway. I'm torn between loving Blake and melting for Barak. He's a major hunk of a warrior, all mysterious and broody, yet also vulnerable and considerate. Mmm... Anywho, Barak first crossed the Barrier in search of a traitor smuggling their precious light source into enemy hands, ended up getting shot and tied to a human female, before saving her life and being cared for by the enemy. When he sav...more

Another great book in this terrific series. I really enjoyed it. Although book 2 was better. Still I liked this one a lot. I guess I just prefer the alpha heroes and this one was definitely not one of them.

In this book we get to read about one of the others, which was amazing. I had been dying to read more about them since the beginning of the series, it just makes no sense that they kill them just because, it's so clear that there's so much more behind all that is happening and I loved to get...more

Oh I am so happy that Barak got his woman! He is an "Other," an alien from the other side of the Barrier that the Paladins protect. It was nice to see that the Others are in fact a normal civilization that somehow gets a madness (similar to the Paladins when they have died too many times) and that they come into our world for the light. In their world the sun has been steadily dying and it is only a dim moon that lights the planet. Barak is constantly referred to as the "pet Other" and finally w...more

In Darkness Reborn continues the stories of the Paladins, this time giving the story of the slow adaptation of humans to an 'Other' living and working in their midst. I found this story quite touching as Barak, the Other, tries to fit in, whilst resisting the urge to pass on his secret talents to the Paladins who have taken him in. A touching love story and an exciting adventure story in one. I highly recommend this series.

This is my favourite story so far. Barak is a guy I feel bad for more so than the others. We learn more about the demon world and I have so many questions! What is going on? Why is the world dying? And Barak is treated badly when it shouldn't be. UGH! I'm so frustrated at how he's discriminated against. I can understand the human's reservation, but still it's frustrating.

Quickie Review

Disappointing.
Barak's character had real potential in the first two books but it never comes to fruition. He is desperately lonely and appears to settle for Lacey as she is the only one available. Consequently, their romance lacks the heat and passion that characterized the couples in books 1 and 2.

Moreover, Lacey's prejudices make it difficult to like her and other than sex there is nothing to explain her sudden love for Barak.
Once again, information on the Other world is scarc...more

Barak's book, very good book. This one really felt like there wasn't going to be a HEA, the internal conflicts were there, but the exterior conflict carried the dark moment, rather than emotional conflict. Still great characters kept me reading.

This series totally needs to come with a warning. Something like…

WARNING! ADDICTIVE! These books are like potato chips! (You can't just have one. Finish one and you reach for the next one without any awareness of your actions.) Crack, I sez.

This book was just okay to me. The first book was okay as well. I skipped the second book altogether because I was anxious to learn more about Barak. But although this book was not horrible it just was not really to my liking. But each book I read, both had it's good and bad points.

This plot and story in general I feel is just not that interesting to me. And this is why I'm just not crazy about this series. I don't really care for the characters or their plight. There is nothing that grabs me a...more

This was a really great read in the Paladin's series. Hero - Barak, the "Other" from Book 1. Heroine - Lacey, sister of Paladin warrior Penn Sebastian. Barak is definitely a tortured hero.

I'd been looking for a new Author to read and I found Alexis Morgan and book 3 and 4 of her Paladin Series and I must say I enjoyed it very much now I have to find book 1 and 2 LMAO.

3 1/2 stars It was deja vu all over again--same basic plot as the first two books. Even some of the same wording. After 3 tries, I'm giving up on the series.

He's a good hero -- a little more subtle than her other alpha males, but just as juicy and even a bit more complex...

so far the best book in the series.
I would've liked to get to know more about the Others, but the next book is more than promising about that.
Lisa
Although the writing hasn't improved, I did like Barak. After reading this book, I realized that my problem with this series is that the Paladins are too near human to make them intriguing. Barak, on the other hand, possessed enough alien-ness to make his story a bit more interesting.

Awesome... totally loving the Paladin series...

This is the story of Barak, the other who saved Dr. Young in the last book. He is trying to find a place for himself here in the human world.
After working for Dr. Young in the clinic for some time, he is sent to another location within the Paladin's secret compound.
He is given a position within a lab working with Lacey Sebastian, a doctor studying the earth and the volcanos that govern the Paladins moments and need to fight.
Barak is struck at first glace of Dr. Sebastian, energy sizzles in the...more
