I'm not sure why I read this considering how the first one went. Having done mediocre work at characterization the first time around, this second novel focuses on turning the characters into assholes. Eddie behaves like an ass rather than choosing to talk about his problems so naturally Nina decides it's all her fault for enjoying her job too much and being frustrated with a man who can't adapt to a change in circumstances. Eddie doesn't have the balls to pursue what he wants so he makes snide More...

What do you call it when an author sets up a premise and promptly destroys it with a stupid sentence? There must be a term for it. Like ‘shitass?'

For example:

“the scientists were normally able to conduct their explorations with no interference from the outside world.
BUT NOT TONIGHT.”

Or this gem:

“It was not a place where anyone in his right mind would choose to be.
BUT SOMEONE WAS THERE.”

How about:

“The dart guns More...

While the Eddie & Nina books may be many things, the one thing they certainly aren't are deep reads. Luckily for us, the books are highly entertaining. The first book introduced us to the dynamic duo, setting up their relationship. The second book follows up on the same formula as the first- sparks flying between the two main characters as they are placed in danger & in pursuit of a historical prize.

This second book has Eddie & Nina a few months or so after the events of the first bo More...

I was really looking forward to reading about the new exploits with Nina and Chase since I loved the first book. In this one the characters are fleshed out more than usual in this genre and I appreciate that McDermott make them into a "real" couple with problems and issues like everyone else. The story itself isnt as good as in Hunt for Atlantis which had a more human appeal and was frankly better. This one doesnt strike the same nerve and the tomb itself is revealed too late in the More...

Did exactly what I expected it to - it's a fast-paced action adventure, with numerous nods to the lastest Bond films and Indiana Jones. The characters are fleshed out a little more than in the first book, and you find yourself warming to the Chase and Nina, and beginning to care about what happens to them. Ultimately though, it's obvious what's going to happen, but none the worse for being predictable! Like the first book in the series, I couldn't stop myself from thinking this would translate i More...

if you put "the tomb of hercules" as title, mr mcdermott, please put the tomb in more than just one chapter!!

*merasa ditipu*

after the fantastic, movie-like adventure in search for atlantis, i thought the tomb of hercules would offer the same thing. Not! Well, at least not in the herc's tomb thing cos that only took one chapter!

The thing that intrigue me first time seeing the book is the title. As someone who loves myth i would love to know how mcderm More...

This was a Hardy Boys setting of character types operating independently against James Bond style corporate madmen (women) bent on using their incredibly unbelievable network of world resources to gain more world domination.
In real life a person can't walk down the street without government intervention and the military or some special government agency is constantly monitoring and intervening in every country and in every unusual major corporate physical building or excavation site. Not i More...

Andy...again, deserved to us story in action.

Nina-now working on IHA with Eddi as her assistance plus as bodyguard-was trying find the tomb of Hercules that she got clue from book of Plato beside about Atlantis, Hemocrates=Hercules.....and she's believe that it's true.
But the way to get there is not easy. Some big boss in level-up on IHA was also interesting about that, and that's make Nina have to facing more action with Eddie...
But actually something behind that......an More...

Oh man! Can Andy McDermott write a fun-filled, action packed, outrageous ride of a book. After finding Atlantis, Nina and Eddie go searching for Hercules, only this time, Eddie's terrorist ex-wife is in on the game. I did not care as much for the Eddie-Nina fits of jealousy when Sophia came into the picture but they still had their lighter, laugh-out-loud moments. The testfor integrity to find the tomb kept me on the edge of my seat. Although sometimes the bad guy death scenes reminded me of More...

1) Rating: 4 out of 5

2) Genre: Adventure/Thriller

3) Synopsis: Nina and Eddie are once again looking for the next great treasure. Of course, what follows is action, adventure, and more action.

4) Feelings: I read the first book in this series a while ago and finally talked myself into buying this book. I liked it but I can't say I loved it. Definitely had plenty of action as well as some twists but the fighting between Eddie and Nina turned me off some. Sure More...

This is a poorly written piece of tripe that is trying to ride along on the coat-tails of Matthew Reilly (which, up until now, I thought was very average writing, but this McDermott guy is just tragic)...
In six separate places, the Bond-style supervillains don't kill the (two dimensional) protagonists, whereas anyone else would just put a bullet in their heads once and for all...and the ending is just ridiculous...if you have any brains at all, don't bother reading this, just re-read some More...

Sebagai anggota jaduler di GRI, nama Hercules tentu punya daya tarik sendiri. Setelah memendam rasa sekian lama, akhirnya acara diskon di GI membuyarkan puasa beli buku yang sudah dicanangkan! Puasa batal demi buku ini... dan beberapa teman-temannya he he he

Bayangan cerita seru seperti yang sering ditayangkan di tv (sebelum Xina...)ternyata tidak ditemukan di buku ini! Sejak lembar pertama dibuka, isinya penuh dengan adegan perkelahian, tembak-menembak, kejar-mengejar, penghianatan More...

This is a good addition to Nina and Chase's story line. Not as engrossing as the Hunt for Atlantis, but still enjoyable.

Eddie and Nina's relationship is put to the test here, as both see how much the other as changed since they hooked up, and they get to deal with all this while searching for the mythical tomb of Hercules.

Nothing overly remarkable, except too much action if you can believe it. There was more fighting than story so it brought the book down a bit. But otherwise

This was a quick read because the main characters seemed to always be fighting their way out of some kind of jam. When they weren't in that situation, they were either arguing with each other or making up. Also, the title of the book, "The Tomb of Hercules", was somewhat misleading. The actual finding of the tomb only happened over a short span of the book and the real story line had nothing to do with the tomb. However, I will continue to read the rest of the books in this series.

I really enjoyed book one in the series ...
I found this one just went from fight to fight to fight and lacked a little detail in the plot.
The relationship between the main characters was explored well but the theme of the story took a major back seat to all the fights and scrapes they found themselves in.
Have moved onto book three and hope its not the same or else i may give up on them!!!

I prefer the mix of fight and plot which Scott Mariani gives the reader

I disagree with some of the readers about the arguing between Wilde and Chase. I think if their relationship was based on hero-worship then they needed to go through what they did to find how they truly felt while searching for a tomb nobody believed existed. The adventure was a lot of fun and when Nina and Eddie finally started working together, it made for much more entertaining Indiana Jones style of adventure. McDermott, unlike most adventure writers, is not afraid to put his hero's in ha More...

An amazing book that is a cross between Indiana Jones, and the British Series Spooks or for the people in the US the series 24.

Nina (an archeologist) and Eddie (her ex-SAS boyfriend and body guard) are looking for the Tomb of Hercules. This takes them on an adventure, from New York, to Shanghai, to Botswana, to England, to Switzerland, to Algeria and back to New York again.

On the way they deal with crazy ex-wives, nuclear bombs, submarines gone crazy and traps in old t More...

Actually I did find the book I had lost, but it could have stayed hidden where it was forever because it sucked anyway! Badly! Hercules shows up around page 400 in the most predictable and boring ways, and the rest of the book is about bad guys chasing the good guys all over the world, and guess who always makes it?
Lots of people dead with bodies torn into pieces, and blood everywhere.. Bleah!!!!!!

Not a good follow up to the first book I'm the series. Way too much teen angst.........from characters not in their teens. Story did not go with the historical possibilities related to Hercules tomb enough. Will give the next book a chance to see if it redeems the series.

Nice pickup from book #1

My reviews for McDermott's Chase/Wilde books are going to pretty much the same: Alluded secret, hunt, people who want to usesecret for something bad, fight, capture, hooray secret!

Characters are starting to become favorites of mine. :-)

This is James Bond the Andy Mcdermott way, full of action and quirky one liners but not so sophisticated, and the character's tend to get a bit more then a bruis.
If you like action movies then you will enjoy his books. An quick easy read.

If you like Indiana Jones stories and I'd strongly suggest picking up "The Hunt for Atlantis". It will not disappoint.

Tomb of Hercules is a mindlessly entertaining adventure, and perfect for mindless summer reading.

Good action packed book, although it does seem to drag on a bit with circumstances the two main characters get themselves in. This is the second book in a series, but you don't have to read the first to get into the story.

Nina and Eddie go on with their adventures after Atlantis. For another time McDermott write amazing cinematic scenes. They guy should go and direct movies for Hollywood! They will be a hit! The book is more closer to a movie, then book. The descriptions don't give you a way out of the exact image the writer wants. But, even if i liked 1st book a lot, this one lost me a little. Fun read… If you like James Bond or India Jones you’ll enjoy these books… This is book 2 and I highly recommend reading the book 1 first which is The Hunt for Atlantis. Though this book does stand alone, reading the first book will give the read a better understanding of the lead character's relationships.

Sometimes a bit annoying with the fighting MCs, but it came out alright in the end. Again, good action, but too many exclamation points. I wish an editor would tell him that.
