Nutty and outrageous. The hero is a police detective with multiple personality disorder who is convicted of a string a killings while he was not himself, or rather while he was one of his more violent selves. After what seemed like a surprisingly short prison term, he is hired by a policewoman friend to set up a detective agency specializing in profiling killers. In this first installment the bad guy is a world-renowned architect with a passion for kidnapping beautiful women and planting flowers ...more

This is some seriously edgy stuff right here. The drawing style is clean and no-nonsense, so you're not distracted by a lot of motion lines and garbage. The story itself is pretty twisty and at the end you're left with this vague feeling that you've been run over, but that in all it was a fairly awesome experience. If you're into serial killer stories, mind control, and group psychosis anyway. Not a whole lot of lovey-lovey here AT ALL, though the female lead is pretty sexy (so go ahead and incl ...more
I got all 10 volumes a while back and have just read the first so far. First off, yes, I have seen the miniseries before. Only once and that a few years ago (it is directed by one of my favorite directors), and I did like them, even if they left me confused. The comic goes far beyond what is shown in that series (there's no fuzzing out the "icky violence" here ... on purpose, actually, if what is in the afterward is true) and is still quite confusing in its special way.

Part of it is my status as

I've had the ten volumes of this series sitting on my shelf for a while, in hopes that Dark Horse would finish publishing the rest before I began reading, but it looks like that will never happen. This comic is violent and graphic, and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who is the least bit squeamish. The story however, seems like it is going to be interesting. Put aside the typically misinformed portrayal of multiple personalities, and just accept it as part of this world, and the remainder is ...more
This manga series is very violent, gory and not for the faint of heart. If you like mature manga comics such as oldboy, Jack Frost then this is a MUST read. This is a series intended for adults, since it is quite graphically gory. You have been warned... Fans of horror/crime series like Death Note will enjoy this series. Also if you like this series then check out the manga GOTH, Kurosagi Corpse Delivery...Enjoy :D
First thoughts: Weird and fascinating, violent, creepy kind of story (has mutilated bodies, and other sadistic things happening. There's a kind of sadistic&sexual twisted vibe also with the naked women and binding them - the Flower Angels. Violence towards female victims mostly creates a somewhat misogynistic feeling - that's never nice to see). The main character's multiple personality disorder (mpd) is of course very interesting; how many personalities does he have and what kind of types a ...more

Well drawn artwork, excellent plot and writing, BUT too gorey for me. And that's saying something!
This review looks at the first two volumes of 'MPD Psycho', Eiji Otsuka and Sho-U Tajima's popular and critically acclaimed manga; it was also adapted as a live-action series for Japanese TV, directed by Takashi Miike (one of my favorite film-makers, incidentally). Miike was the logical choice; his proclivity for grotesque ultra-violence meshed perfectly with the themes explored in MPD Psycho. But there are a wide array of manga titles that find creative ways to plant a horrifying little seed in ...more

Summary: MPD Psycho is a psychological horror series written by Eiji Otsuka and illustrated by Shou Tajima, which follows Yousuke Kobayashi a former police detective. The series opens with Kobayashi tracking down a serial killer who severs the limbs off his victims. Meanwhile, Kobayashi is suffering from strange dreams where he sees himself killing people. After seeing Kobayashi on tv, the serial killer kidnaps his girlfriend, and severs her limbs, but keeps her alive.

No me decepcionó.

I had read a lot of descriptions of this book as the most disturbing comic you'll ever read, and I thought it was hyperbole. After reading this first volume, I think they may be right on the money.

This manga is the story of a keen detective/criminal profiler who, upon the murder of his girlfriend, starts suffering from multipler personality disorder (the MPD of the title). Some of his personalities still possess the keen intellect of his earlier days, while others are out for vengeance. It seems

WOW! This is so dark. I watched the TV series which totally blew my mind. The manga is equally as mind boggling. If I hadn't seen the TV adaptation I think I might have struggled, but I just about followed the story.

The protagonist Yousuke Kobayashi is a police detective profiler suffering from multiple personality disorder. After being released from prison for murdering the guy that killed his girlfriend, he helps solve several twisted murder cases, my favourite being the architect who turns h
I've had this book on my Amazon wishlist for a LONG time. I got it for Christmas. Finished half of it one day. I hated this book. All I can say it's very weird. MPD - Multiple Personality Disorder - a investigator/cop (? I don't remember), started to suffer from Multiple Personalities and one of the personalities goes on a murderous rampage. When the investigator went to solve the murder crimes...(you figure it out). After he went to jail. Someone wanted to use his expertise, and that's when his ...more

At first I flicked through this book when I borrowed it from the library - the death scenes were what had interested me as the drawings were very graphic. But then I decided I should read it and I enjoyed it, albeit I am a little confused from the main character's split personality. We find out that he seems to have one of a police officer and a psychopath, but he tries not to become the psycho.

Tenang, aku masih kuat, b ...more

I think I've read 2-3 volumes of MPD Psycho and could never get into it, oh well... it's getting more and more interesting with more characters introduced, but I never feel anything for the core characters.

I've always wanted to read this one. And also know that it's going to scare-da-bejesus-outta-me, creeping me out big time just like what Battle Royale, Vol. 1 is now doing to me.

Anyhow, I am determine to take this hurdle just to find out what the hype is all about.

Flower planting in a corpse brain and all that *takes a deep breath*.... I hope I come out in one piece reading this crazy stuff.

I did not want to like this which probably contributed to me not liking it very much.
But it is just like Hannibal and despite hating that show I keep watching. So I'll probably keep reading this.
Slap a barcode on anything and I become interested. Not digging all the naked female corpses though.
This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for in a manga. Something that doesn't hold back and shows the darkest of the darkest of the dark side of human least, what mental illness can wreak havoc on...

I don't care at all about the multiple personality disorder line, in fact, SPOILER-yet-not-a-spoiler: After awhile, it gets hella confusing to the point of it not even being funny.

I love how dark and evil the crazy people are. The gore, the violence, and all that jazz is what I look for. Seine
I like the story, so scary! The violence is graphically detailed. The main character is not a hero of justice at all because he has multiple persona, from a kind policeman, cool criminologist, evil coldblooded killer, shy man or blind older woman and more. After released from prison (because he killed people, the evil persona did it) and take cool criminologist persona, he works with a cool ex police together solving the sadistic crimes that all connected to Lucy Monostone, American singer from ...more

I read this Manga when I began my last 3 years of college. It has always been my favorite. This first volume sets up the whole story and contains some pretty gruesome imagery(uprooting the "Flower Pot" scene is still the best) and some of the most mature writing in a Manga that I have ever read. This isn't some cutesy love story, oddball comedy, or surrealist action tale, this is a mystery that takes its readers for a blood soaked ride and doesn't stop until the reader is sopping wet in gore. I ...more
Well, that was exceedingly fucked up. Very reminiscent of Goth in its depiction of dead, mutilated people.

One for the whole family then.

Lemme just say when the main character (I'll refrain from calling him the protagonist or whatever)switches personalities for the first That was money.

I shall be continuing this. Probably. There seems to be depth here but the transgressive nature seems to be the selling point thus far.
I am still trying to process it all. It is well done, but rather sadistic. The flower angels freaked me out completely. Don't ask, you REALLY don't want to know. Actually, I am going to tell you anyway: A serial killer architect captures people, cuts off the top of their heads while leaving their brains intact, and then plants flowers in the tops of the brains. Yes, this was the most fucked-up manga I have ever seen.
Russell Grant
Pretty good set up to the series. Basically it's about a criminal profiler with multiple personality disorder who just may be as crackers as the psychos he's profiling. Rather graphic, but tastefully done. Look forward to future volumes as they set up a nice little mystery.

My one complaint is they are rather slim reprints compared to most manga at this price range.
