Given that this is only the first book in a series featuring Max and Cee Cee, I expected it to be an urban fantasy novel with a romantic subplot. It's not, nor is it a murder mystery/police procedural, despite the blurb. Nancy Gideon's Masked By Moonlight has it's ups and downs as a novel. She has a great talent for writing and delivers an intriguing story line, but it's her characters who drag this novel down and make you question this book.

One of the more enjoyable shifter stories I have read in awhile.

The sexual tension in this story is off the charts. The characters themselves are wonderful and enigmatic. I enjoyed the plot and I still wonder at the bad guys and who is pulling strings behind the scenes.

However - even though the author tried I still couldnt find myself accepting their relationship. A good cop and a criminal king pin. Its just not working for me.

Generally speaking it was ok, but really frustrating.
Although the plot isn't really consistent, it is the first book in the series so it's not too bad (you just hope the 2nd book will develop everything).

This book is a bit different than other paranormal romances I have read. The first difference is the characters. The hero is the physical epitome of an Alpha male but his personality and brain were definitely not Alpha male. Title and cover don't do it justice, which is a polite way of saying title and cover make it look like hero is on crack, can't afford buttons, and premise of story is about crazy person who doesn't understand concept of moon reflecting light of sun, thereby making it technically impossible to hide in it. I think I enjoyed this one, but not as much as I could have. This book ... whoa. Just, whoa. It has everything I like in a paranormal with one of the most incredible main characters I've read recently. I am honestly in awe of how Max took form on the page. I wasn't exactly sure what I was in for when I started reading this one. There may be reviews for it, but they've passed me by. By reading the back cover blurb, it sounded like it could have been a paranormal and probably was, and yes, it is.

There is a whole lot I love about this book. But what really makes it a standout is one of the most shocking heroes I've ever read. He just about breaks your heart with his vulnerability towards the heroine.

I will admit that when I agreed to review this book, I thought it would be a light and sometimes sexy type of book. While I was correct on the second part of that assumption, I would exactly call this very light. That is a good thing. In fact, this book was written in a way that kept my interest and I even thought would be good for men to enjoy. Unfortunately, I don't think you'd get a guy past the cover, but if you did, I think he would be pleasantly surprised in how fun this book is to read.

Masked by Moonlight is the first Nancy Gideon book I've read...and it won't be the last. I really enjoyed it. The hero is just dark and dangerous, and yet fully accepts his feelings for the heroine. I was actually dreading reading this book... because I said "yes" before reading the synopsis. Then when I did read the synopsis, my first thought was, "Another run-of-the-mill werewolf..." I wanted to like this book better. It had a lot going for it. The writing was well done. The werewolf part was interesting. The way he had been manipulated as he grew up to keep him emotionally dependent on the mob boss was interesting although it made him a bit too beta for my taste. The way he was so crazy about her was nice although it caused him to forgive her for all her doubts and betrayals. It seemed there was no real reason for him to love her beyond hot sex.
