"LOVE BEARETH ALL THINGS"
Courting Morrow Little was, in a word- BREATHTAKING! Breathtaking landscapes, breathtaking characters, breathtaking forgiveness, breathtaking LOVE- all conveyed through the breathtaking prose of the brilliant, ridiculously talented Laura Frantz! She turns black ink into rich, vibrant color, creating love and life like few authors are able to claim. With each turn of the page her characters become permanently engraved upon your heart. Laura employs all five of your senses...more

This is one of those stories that stays with you for a long time after you finish the last page! Extremely well-researched, with exquisite descriptions and eloquent words, Ms. Frantz surrounds the reader in the adventurous, romantic and dangerous world of colonial Kentucky. Her characters are real and likeable and don't get me started on her hero, Red Shirt, a half-breed with the heart of a lion and the tenderness of a true romantic. If you want to take a journey to another time and another worl...more

The prologue of this book shocked and upset me so much, I almost didn't continue. Morrow was such a little girl when a nightmare event turned her world upside down. I decided to persevere because the title and cover had drawn me in, and it turned out to be one of my favourite love stories of the year. And rest assured, nothing that happened throughout the rest of the story was as bad as the prologue, which had to happen, by the way, to set the stage for the rest of the book.
Morrow dreaded and fe...more

Back in 2005, the miniseries Into the West was shown on TBS. My sister and I would weekly get our spots on her futon and watch the show, never missing an episode. It was such a well done series with lots of history I didn’t know. And man oh man, did elementary school leave out quite a few details. Mmhmm.

In that same spirit, Courting Little Morrow by Laura Frantz (one of my favs), brings to life the story of Morrow and the crazy American West.

Morrow Little is haunted by the memory of the day her...more

Back to historical (chrischun) fiction. I jump around a lot, for variety, y'know.

This was articulated very well - the story of a young girl whose mother and sister are killed by Indians while her father is in the field and she and her brother are swimming at the river. As a result, she is terrified of Indians. But with the Redcoats and Indians fighting the bluecoats and settlers, she is surrounded by the turmoil of threats.

Her father, a minister, forgives and tries to live a life of peace on th...more

I just finished reading “Courting Morrow Little” by Laura Frantz. It was a very interesting book. It is a about a girl who at the age of 5. Comes home to find her Mother and baby sister killed by Shawne Indians, and her brother missing. Her father and her move on in there lives, but the pain of how she lost her family is remembered every year. A few years after the incident, a Indian and his young son showed up at their house because his son was sick. Morrow’s father, a preacher at the near fort...more

Laura Frantz is my favorite "artist with words". Her unsurpassed wordsmithery excels in the three levels of her storytelling: the vivid historical detail, the characterizations and the love story, and the true acceptance of deep and abiding faith. "Courting Morrow Little" is set in the raw, wild beauty of 18th century Kentucky, and it does not shy away from depicting the shades of good and evil to be found in all human beings. Morrow Little and her family live in the Kentucky frontier, and her c...more

This is one for the Keeper shelf!

In 1765, when Morrow was five years old, Indians killed her mother and infant sister, and abducted her brother. Now after two years in the British-occupied city of Philadelphia, working for her seamstress aunt, she's returning to Kentucky. She finds her father dying of consumption and the community ready for war. Suitors range from brutal Major McKie to timid Robby Clay. But how can she choose when her wayward heart loves another?

It's a cliche to say a novel brin...more

As I started reading Courting Morrow Little here was a moment of confusion as some of the characters seemed familiar! And of course they were as this is book 2. It follows The Frontiersman's Daughter. If you've never read it, pick it up, it's good. You don't need it at all to for this book though. As Captain Click plays a very small role.

Morrow is the tragic heroine, caught between loving the civilized world and her home in Kentuckee (yep, spelled that right--read the book.) She's come home from...more

This book was just okay. I found Morrow to be a little boring. The charaters in general were good, but I like a little humor, but in this book there was none. I liked the history and some of the story, but Morrow bugged me a little. She always wanted people to think she was stronger than they thought, yet she wasn't willing to step it up and prove it. Emotionally she was strong. She wanted people to think her physically strong and capable, yet she didn't work. Here she is a fronter women and her...more

Laura Frantz' debut novel last year, "The Frontiersman's Daughter" was one of my Top 10 books of 2009 - it was such an amazing historical fiction book. I was actually a little hesitant to read "Courting Morrow Little" because I had such high hopes that I really didn't want to be disappointed. Thank goodness I didn't let that stop me! I loved this book as well, I guess sometimes lightning can strike twice. A strong story with emotional beginnings and excellent characters - emotions run high thro...more

Courting Morrow Little, by Laura Frantz, is the story of Morrow Little who was raised by her father in the Kentucky wilderness in the late 1700's. Her mother and little sister were murdered by the Shawnee when she was five and her brother was kidnapped at the same time.

Although she grew to become a kind, gracious, and of course, beautiful woman, she was also racked with bitterness and unforgiveness toward the Shawnee.

Getting acquainted with two special Shawnee men, her heart begins to soften as...more

MRS. FRANTZ HAS DONE IT AGAIN

Mrs. Frantz’s second book, Courting Morrow Little, is even better than her last book if that is even possible. Mrs. Frantz uses paper as her canvas and words for her paint to tell the reader a story, a story of a young heroine, the hard life she has chosen to live, and the harder choices she must make. The setting is the late 1700’s in Kentucky and the reader is transported back to that historic time when some frontiersmen and Indians are trying to live together in...more

I really did enjoy this book!

I was kinda surprised actually:)Lately I have found I have an immense love of historical fiction! Particularly ones about cowboys and the West.

I found this one while looking through a whole bunch of historical romantic fiction recently. I was clicking to-read for like everyone, *click *click *click. This one was just another book in the pile.

But I was so surprised (did I say that aleady?)! This one was totally different! I loved it! Courting Morrow Little didn't just...more

Laura Frantz has a captivating voice. It’s Revolutionary War time in America, and Frantz reminds us of the slight language drift without going overboard. The character costumes and mannerisms are wonderfully true to era and I enjoyed the book without having to stop and verify facts. What a treat.

The book was long enough, but I would have liked a little more glimpse into Morrow’s life in Philadelphia. The title word “courting” takes us only half way through the story, as Morrow chooses a mate and...more

Most Historical books I've read as of late have been ones sent in the 1800's to early 1900's so this particular book by new-to-me author Laura Frantz was awesome for me, as it was set in the 1700's during the British American War and the time of Indians. Laura Frantz has written a story for her readers that will draw you in from the first page, and make you feel apart of a time gone by.

In Courting Morrow Little, Frantz's detail to the past and her characters is incredible. Morrow, Red Shirt, Tra...more

Morrow is headed home.
To Kentucky.
To the cabin where her mother and baby sister were murdered by the Shawnee.
Where her brother Jess was taken prisoner and stolen away.
And to Pa.
Who still lives there, coughing his life away from consumption.

When Pa dies, there will be no one, unless Morrow can find a husband among the men scratching out a living near the fort or the bluecoat officers sent there to eliminate the Shawnee enemy.

But while offers of marriage are easy enough to procure, love is not so...more

Morrow Mary Little written by Laura Frantz is one excellent book. The cover of the book is beautiful and I love the name Morrow. This book is a great historical romance. I was gripped from the very beginning when 5 year old Morrow lost her mom, little sister to death from the Shawnee Indians and her brother was kidnapped. So Morrow and her Pa try to go on and live their lives. Morrow is plagued with being terrified of Indians. Five years after the deaths and kidnapping an Indian Chief and his si...more

A Must Read for Historical Fiction Fans!

Laura Frantz has created characters who seem like our next door neighbors set in 18th century Kentucky. The reader can identify with the characters and will be enraptured with the story of 2 people from different worlds making a success of their marriage in spite of many pitfalls. Ms. Frantz's research is excellent for the historical background, and she demonstrates her vast knowledge of how people behave in different situations in this novel, making it se...more

As a rule, I generally don’t read early Americana. Little House on the Prairie was way more than enough for me. Fate smiled wickedly upon me when this book surfaced on my to-be-reviewed pile. I cracked it open with a bad attitude and slogged through the first fifty pages or so, and then—miracle of miracles—I got sucked in. Deep down into the swirling vortex of Laura Franz’s sweet storyweaving skills. I read with anticipation and, dare I say it, gusto.

Once I got past the hero’s ridiculous name, R...more

TRULY one of the best books I've read this year! I could easily sum it up in three words: made me cry, but that would not even begin to cover the essence of this striking story.

Set just before and concurrently with The Frontiersman's Daughter, this is the absorbing story of Morrow Little, Preacher's daughter and Red Shirt, son of Shawnee elder Surrounded by Enemies. There's not much I can say about the plot without giving anything crucial away. This is marketed as a Christian romance and there a...more

Gifted author Laura Frantz sweeps her readers into 18th century Kentucke for a captivating tale of loss, love, and changed lives. With consummate skill, Frantz paints a vivid picture of the frontier her heroine, Morrow Little, calls home, bringing to life a time and place rich in history. Frantz peoples this world with characters sure to steal her reader’s hearts, from her determined heroine to the vastly different men who vie for her affection, one who is the stuff heroes are made of: strong, l...more

Courting Morrow Little is not just a story to be read but it is an experience to cherish. Laura Frantz writes with an inherent beauty that graces every literary aspect of her story, from exquisite prose and intricate characterisation to meticulous historical detail and striking emotional connections, this book sets the standard in historical faith fiction. Morrow's torment, Red Shirt's devotion and the town's derision are tangible emotions that will echo in your heart as a result of Laura's auth...more

I was actually surprisingly impressed with this book. It was a very realistic portrayal of what lives were like during the Revolutionary War, and the interactions between Native Americans and whites. The first hundred pages or so are actually quite melancholy, since the main character is dealing with the traumas from her youth. But she learns to overcome her fears as she matures emotionally and spiritually. The romance, history, and religion were balanced, and not overdone like in many other boo...more

LOVED THIS!

I feel like this was a little slow in the beginning and dragged on a little bit... but then it got really good!

This was a page-turner for me. Possibly because I'm pregnant and extra sappy and emotional at the moment. AND I'm a hopeless romantic. AND I'm a sucker for characters of integrity and virtue. AND I love books/songs/movies that teach righteous principles (forgiveness, hard work, perseverence, selflessness, self-discipline, service... to name a few!).

I picked this up at random...more

I liked this one. VERY escapist. Nothing better than remembering that falling in love feeling. Morrow was likable and relatable, but maybe teared up too much. Do people really have tears come to there eyes that often? I liked that the author stayed true to the character even when pushing her in a direction I didn't expect her to go. She stayed Morrow, yet evolved at the same time. I didn't even mind the "Christian" aspect of the book. Sometimes an author throwing scripture in can make it cheesy,...more

This book is special. I would read this one again and again at some point. You can understand what it was like to live on the frontier through the eyes of the heroine--the fear and the courage. The author developes her character and her relationships over time and that makes what eventually happens more believable. Faith intertwines and is what motivates the hero and heroine. Also, the issue of prejudice is dealt with--that it exists, that some carry it to an extreme, others don't exhibit it, an...more

Christ-follower, history lover, wife, mom, author. Felt called to write since age 7 and have been writing ever since. My first love is 18th-century fiction, especially colonial history. I feel blessed beyond measure to write books. I hope you are doubly blessed reading them!
