Introducing Tara Sharp, a fun, feisty, kick-arse crime fighter for fans of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum.

Tara Sharp should be just another unemployable, twenty-something, ex-private schoolgirl . . . but she has the gift - or curse as she sees it - of reading people's auras. The trouble is, auras sometimes tell you things about people they don't want you to know.

Sharp Shooter is a fast paced crime fiction novel that I was instantly engrossed in and by the end was left wanting more. In her late 20’s, Tara Sharp is unemployed, newly single and now living out the back of her parents’ house. She has always had a knack for reading people’s auras and when it gets her fired and into trouble one too many times she needs to find a way to use this skill to her advantage. So, with the advice of a shrink, Tara...more

I don't know how I missed the debut of this series by Australian author Marianne Delacourt since it is the genre that I really enjoy. Luckily I was able to find a copy at another branch of my local library as it's publishing run was short which is shame. I've also put in a purchase request for the second, Sharp Turn. An award winning writer, Delacourt also publishes spec fiction under the pseudonym Marianne de Pierres.
Sharp Shooter is a fun romp through the city of Perth (my hometown) as flighty...more
Melbourne on my mind
This is billed as Australia's answer to Stephanie Plum. Honestly, I think I would have liked the book better without that comparison, because I spent the whole book looking for Stephanie Plum similarities and struggling to find them.

Tara Sharp is a single twenty-something living in the granny flat behind her parents' house. When she finds herself out of work, she takes advantage of her gift - seeing other people's auras - and sets up her own business. By some slightly confusing plot contrivance...more

I do enjoy a bit of a crime romp, with a sassy but imperfect heroine and a supporting case of intriguing and maybe disreputable characters. Marianne Delacourt’s Sharp Shooter delivers on both counts, with the bonus of being set in an Australian city. Delacourt’s Perth is a step to the left of the real Perth, but there’s plenty that’s recognisable about my old stomping grounds.

Tara Sharp, former basketballer and aura-reader, seems to be failing spectacularly at life, but getting a little guidance...more

Tara Sharp is a newish entrant in the Australian amateur investigator / mad cap girl / chick lit style of crime fiction. With the added extra of a bit of paranormal ability, as in aura reading.

There's been a lot of entrants in this sort of slightly out of control, breathlessly 20-something, girl on the run, living in straightened circumstances, forging a way in the world type books recently, although I'm struggling to think of another one that has that added paranormal feature (that's not to say...more

This book is a better second half read because the first half is a mess. There are too many characters crammed in there and too many quirky characters crammed in there. The first half is trying too hard and for a while I was not sure I would finish this novel.
Once the introductions are over the novel settles into a nice rhythm and there is a couple of giggles along the way.
I am still not sure about the whole aura thing as it is sparingly used but was it enough for the book to carry on with. No...more

I adored this book! Sharp is such a hot heroine, and so flawed. I had a Monaro in my twenties, so I could completely relate. Fabulous characters and completely believable dramas that she gets herself into. Just a great relaxing, funny, poignant read. Love, love, loved it!

Perth has it's very own Stephanie Plum in Tara Sharp. It doesn't get quite as ridiculous as Evanovich's stories which I think is a good thing. I'll be interested to see which characters follow through into the next book :))

An absolute page-turner!

good fun book, that is almost up to Stephanie Plum standards. A lighthearted read, but the plots moves along with enough interest that i didn't want to put the book down. Will happily keep and eye on this author and see if a good series develops.

Just my kind of fare! Marianne does a great line in kick-ass heroines (the only kind IMHO), and with Tara we get a great blend of clever plot, humour and a tiny touch of the paranormal. Delicious!

Fast-paced, funny and engrossing. Loved it!

Compared to Janet Evanovich's "Stephanie Plum" series, this novel falls flatly on it's face. However, as long as you don't compare it to JE, it's not too bad! Looking forward to reading #2.
Priscilla
Entertaining, humorous read and a great start to a new series! looking forward to the next installment.

“Bok knows everything about me, including my thing with auras. Truth is, though, he isn't much good as a bodyguard. Bok is a shade heavier than an eating disorder, has a cute button nose and long, silky, straight hair most girls would kill for. We've been friends since prep when he used to sit behind me in class and hit me with his ruler. I put up with it for weeks, and then one day when the teacher stepped out of the room I pushed him off his chair and watched as he fell flat on his skinny, pretty arse.” 2 people liked it
