This book shouldn't have taken me so long to read, but life got in the way and I was constantly having to put it on hold. I hated doing it because I LOVED IT!

I now have a new "go-to" favorite romance author! Toni Blake is a new author to me and when I started reading this story, I knew immediately that I liked her style. We also get to know Mike Romo, Destiny’s “by the book” police officer who, with his good looks and gorgeous body, seems to have captured the eye of just about every woman in Destiny. Returning home to help her grandmother with this year’s apple harvest, Rachel finds herself being pulled over and ticketed for speeding. This is where the story begins and in a decades old family feud to rival that of the Hatfield’s and the McCoy’s, Mike and Rachel face off in a battle of wills to see who will end up owning the Farris family’s apple orchard – Mike Romo, whose family believes the orchard is rightfully theirs, or Rachel Farris who doesn’t really want it, but doesn’t want Mike and the Romo clan to have it either.

I felt like it started a bit slow, but the background story was interesting. Not many authors can pull this kind of back-story writing off, where there is so much detail given. The problem I had with it however, was that I was so interested in finding out what was going to happen with Mike and Rachel, that I didn’t really have the patience to read each and every word of Grandma Edna’s and Giovanni Romo’s story.

There was a lot of sexual and emotional tension between our hero and heroine that gradually escalated into some crazy hot sex-capades which they both denied was anything more than physical attraction. It didn’t take long though, before they were both stunned to realize that despite generations old bitterness, they really were attracted to each other – not just physically, but to the real person on the inside.

I’m hooked on Toni Blake’s Destiny Series and am anxiously awaiting the next book, Whisper Falls due out in January 2011.

This was a great book! I absolutely can't wait to see what other characters of Destiny will get their own stories! I reckon Lucky will be back in his own book - and he's going to be one f'ed up bad boy. Can't wait.... but I'll have to seeing as Blake releases a book once every ... year! Oi.

Also, the title and the picture are a reminder of both Edna's story and how important the property is to the tale.

In this book, specifically, I LOVED the dynamic between the H/h. Often in books with love/hate themes the interacts tend to always veer towards hateful even when it's lusty. I really didn't get that from Mike and Rachel. The "hate" part was apart of their awareness of each other, sort of a "I dislike you on principle, but I am annoyed with you right now because I notice you are here and I can't ignore you", rather than a bone deep sort of "I hate you because of who you are, but I hate who you are because I misunderstand you". See the difference?

Anywhoooo - the development of the romance was also nice. Again, I liked how Rachel and Mike interacted.

Something about Toni Blake, she loves couples who have lots of sex, and Mike and Rachel are no exception. I won't lie, I skimmed through a couple of the less pivotal sex scenes. There were so many!

I wasn't overly found of Edna's love story. I was curious about her, sure. And I enjoyed reading it once it was over, but while reading the book I really felt that Edna's flashbacks got in the way. I kept thinking "move over Edna, you're blocking Mike and Rachel and I can't see what they're doing" (oh ... erm yes. I read to be a voyeur). I found the whole flashback thing to be an interesting element, but I didn't enjoy reading through it. Does that make sense?

This book doesn't disappoint. I am rating this 4/5 because I consider 5 star to indicate books that I will re-read and I am not sure that I will pick this up again. BUT I will be looking forward to more installments, and again, Blake writes a great story!

I totally loved this book, said with a big sigh and fluttery heart! You cannot help but love, love, love the characters in this quaint little town called Destiny. From the big city girl to the small town, tough as nails deputy--who, I might add takes his job seriously all the way to the end of the book! So, not only was mike and Rachel's story hot and sexy and romantic and frustrating, but the side story romance from years ago, told by her grandmother, Edna was just as touching.

Yeah, that's right. I read a romance novel. And here's how it went: I opened the book, read 30 or so pages, realized it wasn't going to work, checked to make sure no one was looking and skipped ahead to the good stuff. No lie, no shame.

I don't really know how to review this book. Part of me wants to tear it to shreds and the other (more forgiving) part knows its not really supposed to be taken that seriously. But I think that's an insult to writing, excusing a book because its a romance novel an...more

Best Book In This Series! Whoo Hoo!

It's a love/hate relationship between Rachel Farris and Mike Romo.

I loved the Hot Bad Boy Snooty Cop from the previous book One Reckless Summer but Mike was just sooooo much hotter arrogant and everything nice in this book...I LOVED! I LOVED IT,I LOVED IT! Lolz!

I was so excited to have won an ARC copy of this! I’d been eagerly anticipating returning to Destiny ever since I’d read One Reckless Summer, a few months ago.

Rachel Farris breezes into town, but along the way she is clocked speeding by hunky, yet surly cop Mike Romo. The Romo's and the Farris's have a history of feuding and she is less than impressed by this Romo, whom she likes to call Romeo to annoy him. But despite the animosity the two feel for each other, there are some major sparks going on between them and when they end up locked in a concession booth, the sparks turn into a major bonfire and what a hawt bonfire that turns out to be.

Rachel starts out a bit brittle, disliking the fact that she's back in the small town she was so anxious to get out of years ago. But little by little, we get to see her more tender side. As she slowly reconnects with old friends and reestablishes a relationship with her really kewl grandmother, she slowly begins to see that a small town isn't as bad as she thought it would be. And of course there is the steamy relationship that is slowly building with Mike.

Mike is a rough, tough, guys kind of guy. But underneath, he is still suffering from a tragedy in his past that changed his life and destroyed his family. Because of that, he has to be in control at all times and is flummoxed by his growing feelings for Rachel. He's always been a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy, but he can't seem to leave Rachel. When he finally starts letting his vulnerabilities show, he's just delicious.

I really enjoyed this book. There were a few things that I found a bit tedious - Rachel's continuing insistence that it was 'just sex' between her and Mike and her denial until close to the end that she had any warmer feelings for him. But that was a small issue. And one of the real strengths of this book was the developing relationship between Rachel and Edna. Edna is a real hoot. She's who I want to be when I get old. Slowly, piece by piece, she tells Rachel the origin of the feud between the two families and her relationship with Mike's grandfather.

This may sound odd, but I really loved the apple picking scenes too. When the boys were small we used to take them apple picking every year and reading these scenes brought back those memories - I could almost taste the apples fresh off the trees. The apples you get in stores can't even begin to compare. And I also enjoyed how the author captured the warmth of small towns with all their quirky little festivals and close knit atmosphere.

I found this to be another excellent book and for those who love a good contemporary, this is one I think you will enjoy.

One of the things I love about Toni Blake's books is that it feels as if you are reading about people who could well be your real life close friends. Her characters seem very likeable and real and in Sugar Creek not only did I love the characters, I also love, love, LOVE the Italian coastal village Vernazza (I have a picture of this village on my GR profile) that is mentioned in some of the flashback scenes. I think this book should be marked "spice"! Hot romance going on through much of the book between the two main characters, and it's pretty spicy! I liked the book ok, but would have liked more of a story perhaps and less of the graphic sexual scenes between the two main characters. This one I enjoyed more than the first, and what bothered me in One Reckless Summer bothered me less here, but were there nonetheless. Mike's back story while heartbreaking didn't hit as hard as Mick's. BUT Rachel was SO much more interesting than Jenny. I got Rachel. I really understood this girl's dilemma, and why she left Destiny and why she wanted to leave again. It was as simply that it's difficult for a person to leave a whole life despite movie and novel endings. Also, I like that these two didn't rush into the OMG I LOVE him, but I don't even KNOW him and does he LOVE me? because I absolutely hate when an entire plot is dwindled down to that inner monologue. Seriously, it makes me want to punch something. But there was no misunderstanding or other silly mishap to drive a wedge between these two before the final, OMG I LOVE him and I don't even care if he LOVES me!, and that I appreciated and found surprisingly refreshing for a conventional contemporary romance. These two were very believable adults with really playful, argumentative, sexy banter and they started out with the simplest of intentions and super smokin' hot chemistry, and of course that L-O-V-E bug just complicated all their adventurous sex, but what can you do? Have more sex? Good idea.

Telling the story alongside Edna and Giovanni's was really great. I loved learning about the past of the feud between these two families, although it kind of fizzled out towards the end for me. I loved all the apple orchard scenes and the descriptions. I finished this book just wanting to put on a sweater and go pick my own apples and have some amazing pie afterwards. Toni Blake KNOWS Destiny and she creates this very pleasant, lovely little town to disappear to, which wasn't as annoying as it was in the first book. You get tiny glimpses of Jenny and Mick (more Jenny than Mick though. Such hogwash.) And Grandma Edna is to die for. This one felt like a more complete story and more was going on with the family preparing to harvest, but still a really easily consumed story with a sweet enough story, off the charts sex, and a cop whose willing to give even the girl he's sleeping with a speeding ticket. All in all, it was a good time. (less)

This is a straight up romance and I just LOVED it. Book 2 in the series, it hit all my must haves for great reads: I love books with family, with a group of girl friends who are tight and have a spectacular sense of humor, alpha males, Hate to love stories where the intense grrr... leads to intense grrrr KWIM? I feel really bad giving this book a lower star rating. I really liked One Reckless Summer but there was just something missing from the second book in the Destiny series.

I found this to be miles better than the first Destiny book. Rachel and Mike have a lot more depth, and the sex scenes were smoking. At first, I did find myself getting really annoyed with Rachel's flippant remarks about speeding, and her dismissive remarks about small towns, but she does grow as a character, and I loved Mike. I loved this book! Even more than ONE RECKLESS SUMMER, which was the first in this series about Destiny, OH. It's a love/hate relationship between Rachel Farris and Mike Romo, who strike sparks of Hate? Love? Attraction? off each other from the moment she hits her hometown of Destiny to help her grandmother with the apple harvest. Add a family fued between the Farris' and the Romo's, him being a hot cop and her being a gorgeous woman with a smart mouth, and you've got some hot stuff going on ;)...more

I loved this book just as much as the first! This Destiny series reminds me a lot of Virgin River, without all the unnecessary side stories and medical drama.

Mike was a tough, hard-nosed cop who stopped Rachel for speeding about three times during the course of the book, even after they'd gotten together LOL! I'm am a fan of Toni Blake's for life. She sure know's how to write a great story. I'm rating this book a 4 1/2 stars and not 5 stars because I really did not like the way The H&H refused to realize their feelings for each other. Once they started to wonder why they felt the way they did it was much better for me. The secondary story of Edna, Giovanni and Eddie was really good. I felt like Rachel did every time Edna stopped telling the story thinking why did Edna stop and I wanted more now....more

Absolutely LOVED IT!!! Definitely my favorite so far in the Destiny series. Mike and Rachel made such a wonderful couple. I really hope Toni Blake allows them to appear in future books. Their constant nitpicking with one another had me laughing out loud (especially regarding the speeding tickets). The sexual tension between these too made me fan myself on several occasions - hoo boy!!

Can't wait to read more about this lovely town!!!

This book has the typical city girl/small-town guy romance but it made me smile. A lot. It was exactly what I was looking for--something funny, sexy, and sweet. I haven't read a contemporary romance like this in about a year so I think that also plays a part in why I enjoyed it so much (tbh, I've been quite cynical about CR--hell I struck out with two of Toni Blake's other popular titles). I liked this book, but it seemed like Rachel was just dropped back into town without much back story and it seemed like through out the whole book she really didn't fit in, even having grown up there.

I loved Edna, loved how she told her back story to Rachel, little by little. I get the reason why she did what she did, but did think it was a cold act and it seemed like at this later time in life she was regretting those actions.

This is such a fun series. Both books have been so good but think I liked "Sugar Creek" just a teeny bit better. Liked the feisty female lead and enjoyed the interaction with her hunky sheriff. Toni Blake definitely writes a super contemp romance! Can hardly wait for the next book in the new "Destiny" series.

Sugar Creek is the 2nd book in the Destiny Ohio series, and I am loving the direction of this series. This book had a different spin since in this book we get the family feud, and in order to understand where it all started, we get to see flashbacks of grandma's Edna's life as a girl, a girl that fell in love and ended up with a broken heart. YAY-yay!! See, this is why Toni Blake is turning me into such a huge small-town romance fan, at least when it comes to her work. The book cover's very lovely, but before my Destiny days, I would have been running fast in the opposite direction. Toni gives you that comfy feeling you love and expect from this genre, but then she surprises you with sex so hot, you do a double take and think you're reading under her erotic romance pen name (Lacey Alexander). One Reckless Summer was blistering hot and nearly made me cry, but I loved Sugar Creek just as much and Mick and Mike are currently tied as my favorite Destiny guys - I just can't choose :)

Rachel Farris is a smart, stylish and successful Chicago ad-executive who has temporarily returned to Destiny, Ohio to help her ailing grandmother run the family's apple orchard business. And she likes to drive her fancy cars, and FAST, because she keeps getting pulled over by the tough, sexy, by the books, everybody-wants-to-bang-him, perpetual bachelor..Officer Mike Romo, or as Rachel likes to call him, "Officer Romeo" :) She feels he's harassing her because of a generations old family fued, and he think's she's a reckless citygirl looking down on their small-town way of life. But why can't she resist flirting with him? Their banter - the chemistry - it was just fantastic!

Pretty soon, though they still dislike each other, they give in to their passions and man was it smokin' hot! A good portion of their encounters were spontaneous, including my favorite one--> Although he doesn't understand why it's so important to him (you're falling for her, silly!), Mike convinces Rachel to attend his grandmother's birthday party as his date. On the drive over, though they've already had amazing sex, Rachel is still trying to do her best job of pretending she's totally unaffected by Mike and he doesn't really do it for her (uh-huh) ...So Mike WHIPS the car over into a barn on the side of the road, and erm...shuts her up really good! *g*

As the conclusion of Rachel's Destiny trip draws near, the love they are developing for one another results in rising tension. I loved Mike's struggles to accept a partner in his life, despite the incredible loss he suffered as young boy. In addition to Rachel and Mike's story, we get the bonus flashbacks of how the Farris/Romo feud began. And Rachel grandmother's frankness and teasing added to the humor. Hope we see more of her in future installments. This is a wonderful series - I'm looking forward to more :)

The second installment in the Destiny series and it did not disappoint. Whew! There were brief mentions of Rachel Farris and Mike Romo in "One Reckless Summer" (the first in this series), but because Rachel's character never appeared before, she was practically new. Rachel was firmly established in Chicago and had no intention of ever going back to the small town she grew up in.
