Carmindy does wonderful work, most people will agree. However, tutorials aren't exactly her strong point. The pictures were beautiful, cut up lipstick makes me smile everytime. I also enjoyed the variety of models she used. Unfortunately, I have a much different take on makeup that Carmindy. I enjoyed her writing about inner-beauty, but it didn't seem much more inspiring that the usual magazine self-esteem boosts. I don't wear makeup everyday, because I don't really care what I look like. I enjo...more

OK, so I've never been much of a makeup person, but now that I live in the slightly more formal South it seems that no one goes out without makeup on. Since one of the requirements of my dress code is that I not get mistaken for a student, I needed help looking a bit more professional.
I borrowed this book from the library. It's light on actual content, but the portion about the 5-minute daily makeup regimen is clear. The appendix even lists recommended brands and colors, and includes an expe...more

Very good overview of the basics, plus solutions for a variety of skin and makeup issues. Also included are makeup suggestions and advice for a variety of ages and ethnicities.
A nice touch is a section listing both drugstore-brand and department store-brand choices for every single thing used in the book. It allows women without a lot of extra money, such as myself, to feel they can buy quality makeup that's going to do what they need it to do without going broke.

I bought this one with the Tim Gunn book as a style pick me up. I really liked that she tells you what brands to use and even gives you the exact colors that are suited for your skin type, hair color, etc. Except that I tried to find some of the products she recommends and they no longer make a bunch of them which kind of defeats the purpose.

Just got this book today. I love it already! Buying and putting on makeup has always been difficult for me, what kind? what color? how much? what works? what doesn't? I already know from reading the Table of Contents and paging through the book that it is worth every penny to me!! A very good reference book to keep on hand.

Not a bad read for a beauty book. It's really pretty basic, but with the title, you'd expect that, right?
Carmindy's goal is to highlight the good in every woman's face, to showcase the beauty that is innate. She also has some nice guidelines for how to change one's make-up routine as one ages.

This ain't a laughing matter. Although Carmindy only has one perky name, she knows her craft! This is quite a handy book for those who fall prey to common vanity...It will make you proud to walk out of your humble abode in the morning...looking classy and feeling rather good.

I enjoyed this book. It sort of explained some things about makeup I didn't really know. Although I still can't pull off a smoky eye with out looking like a racoon.

This book has some really great tips. I would have liked it more though, if she hadn't used perfectly air brushed models for her demonstrations.
