If you are looking for a cookbook with personality, then this is the one for you. I loved Elizabeth Fisher’s stories spaced throughout the book.
The recipes were very easy to make. They all used ingredients that you more then likely already have in your pantry. If they aren’t in your pantry, you can likely catch them for real cheap on sale or using coupons.

I found this cookbook rather entertaining with all the personal anecdotes interspersed between the recipes. There were some yummy recipes that I would like to try like the Butterfinger Brownies. This book is not for those on a diet because their was quite a bit of processsed stuff like processed cheese spread used in the appetizer section and brownie mix in the dessert section. Also used a great deal were refrigerated biscuits and biscuit mix. Canned foods as well. One thing I did find a lit...more
In this day and age trying to feed a family of two is hard enough let alone trying to feed a family of 3 or more and still have a delicious meal as well as nutritious. In Dining With The Dollar Diva , Elizabeth Fisher shows us how to create some fabulous meals coasting a dollar or less. Most ingredients can be found at the local Dollar Store or stores that have sale items all the time like 10 for 10.00. That’s a dollar a piece. I guess depending on where you live. In my small town I would ha...more
This book has a surprising number of recipes that can be made with ingredients costing a dollar or less. I'm not sure how many of these items *I* could actually find at my local dollar store, and some items only come on sale (i.e. a 10 for $10 sale) very rarely, but that doesn't stop the usefulness of the book. Lots of things in here aren't "authentic" or perhaps the healthiest versions of meals, but if you're saving every penny, this book will show you ways to use those inexpensive it...more
Dining with the Dollar Diva by Elizabeth Fisher is a book filled with recipes that can be made with items purchased for a dollar or less.
The book is very personal, not just a cut and dry recipe book. There are stories with almost every recipe. It makes for interesting reading to go with your cooking.
I am not sure how she is able to find all the items she uses for $1 though. Maybe the dollar stores around me just aren't as stocked, I know mine don't have freezer sections. ...more
