Now that she's gotten her powers, and learned to semi-control them, there's nothing holding her back from having the best year ever. Alright, well, this series has finally jumped the shark for me. While I loved the first 3 books, this 4th one is just... meh. Many of the aspects that were so enjoyable to me in the beginning of the series weren't present in this final volume. Like the humor. I didn't giggle once while reading this book! Mlynowsky was a little too heavy-handed on the message (love yourself for who you are, don't change to fit in, you're special just like everybody else... blah blah blah...) and far too light on...more
Parties and Potions is about a girl called Rachel that has a sister called Miri, they grew up not knowing they are witches. Rachel attend school like a normal girl and she goes to a school that normal girls go. She don't know anything about the witch world and she don't plan to tell anyone that she is a witch. Wendaline, Miri's online friend is a total witcholic. She knows a lot about being a witch, she tells the people in the same shes in (same school as Rachel) that she is a witch. Rachel got...more

Rachel and Miri are not your ordinary Manhattan sisters. They just happen to be witches. In the fourth book of this series, Magic in Manhattan, Miri convinces Rachel to do a Samsorta. It is kind of like a bat mitzvah/ débutante/ quinceñara kind of thing, except for witches. They join the class in Arizona, at a school that hadn't started class yet. The coed school was crawling with witches and warlocks, all who were perfectly normal kids. Rachel and Miri met so many oth...more

Parties & Potions is the fourth and last book in the Magic in Manhattan series. The series follows the life of new witches Miri and Rachel as they deal with both their newfound powers and the typical day to day problems of teen and tweens. I definitely think that this is the best book in the series. The characters are fully developed, and they face true problems, like figuring out who they are and how to be honest even when it isn't easy. Also covered a bit is the meaning of love.

Okay, I can't deny that I'm cheating a little and cutting this review short. I mean -- RENT is playing on Starz right now! I'm an excellent multitasker and all -- but this is RENT we're talking about! I'm having a hard time prying my eyes from the screen.
But, I did just finish PARTIES AND POTIONS and I still think this little series of four was charming, cute, adorable and loads of fun. Yes, it feels very young -- as it's intended to be -- and it's definitely what I'd call fluffy young-adult chi...more

Parties & Potions is the best of the Magic in Manhattan series yet. I was laughing while reading this one as the others, it just seemed to happen more often. Rachel has her powers and is back at school. She meets a weird witch named Wendaline who almost exposes herself to the whole school. Wendy is a bit too proud of being a witch and Rachel has to fix that.

After I read Ten Things We Did (and probably shouldn’t have) by Sarah Mlynowski, I decided to buy more books from her. I went to Amazon.com and read over a few books, then randomly bought books, including this one. I did not realize it was the last book in a series; however, it is a stand-alone book and could be read with or without the rest of the series.
Parties & Potions is a really cute story about a teenage girl who has recently found out she is a witch and she has magical powers. She is...more

I really like this series, it's just fun and fast; the cotton candy of my reading list. However, Rachel's extreme self-involvement and lack of character progression are starting to bother me. She's basically exactly the same (emotionally and in how she relates to others) as she was in the first book. The humor in this book, and the others, are what save them and keep me reading. Characterization is the weak point though and this book is no different in that from the others. There are points wher...more

This is the last book in the series. It's just about how Miri wants to go to a school for witches, so she can learn to improve her magic, and gets Rachael to join as well. When they learn about the Samsorta, a magic ritual in which girls go through to make themselves known in the world, they start to want one and beg their mom. As she reluctantly agrees, the start classes a few weeks later. There, Rachael meets Adam, a magical being like her, and they become good friends. However, Adam starts to...more
Unfortunately the audio may have really ruined the book for me. OMG. It was so obnoxious. I just could not handle listening to it. Unfortunately, I felt obligated to listen. So I finished it.
The story was cute. Dopey, but cute. Maybe a three. Maybe. The main characters are two sisters who bicker back and forth but generally like each other. They find out that they are witches, but they're divorced mom has hidden this from them.
This is when all heck breaks lose. Trying to keep their witch and no...more

This book is funny and a good book for preteens. It has secrets, boyfriend problems, and relationship issues. In this book a young girl named Rachel who is a witch as well as her younger sister Miri. Their father is remarried and doesn't know that his ex-wife and daughters are witches. They meet another witch named Wendeline. Throughout the book Rachel tells about wanting to tell her boyfriend Raf about being a witch, meeting a cute boy witch who understands her problems, and planning her and he...more
I really loved the rest of this series, but by the time I got to this one I was really annoyed with how self-absorbed Rachel could be. Especially when she was constantly referring to a set of triplets by her own adjectives ("Glamour Triplet" for instance). It really bothered me that she didn't even bother to learn their names, since I run into this problem a lot as a twin. I did get past this as I once again got caught up in the problems Rachel's magic caused, and I think she did become more aw...more

I loved this book. The entire time i was reading this book, i had a huge smile on my face. The main character Rachel is so up beat and funny, you can't help falling in love with her. All the characters are funny and charming and just plain lovable. I loved the idea of an entire witch community and they all interacting with each other and also dealing with issues any normal teenager face. I just loved the quirky and cute little spells Rachel and her friends came up with! The entire series is uniq...more
Rachel struggles to separate her regular life with her witch life. First, there's the freshman girl, Wendaline, who openly admits to being a witch. Second, there's her sister Miri who wants to tell their father the truth. Lastly, there's Samsorta, or a witches coming out party, and it's getting difficult to fabricate excuses for magic school and other stuff associated with this event. More than anything, Rachel wants things to stay the way they are, with her loved ones (i.e. her dad, Raf, Tammy)...more

I can't decide which book was better-Spells and Sleeping Bags or Parties and Potions. This book was like Rachel and Miri opened a door to anoteh world of paradise, and Sarah Mlynowski is so great at describing it. I feel like I'm going into that other world with them too, which is another example of Sarah Mlynowski's geniusness (i'm pretty sure that's not how it's spelled...but anyways)and yet again, if you haven't read it, you don't know what you're missing.

I loved this book. Rachel and Miri actually gets to go to witch school! But there's so much witch craft and there's more drama. This book was actually a really sweet ending to the series that Sarah Mlynowski had written. Most of the time Rachel was battling to tell the truth to Raf about being a witch but in the end she told him the truth.. and he still loved her. Its really sweet but i didn't really suspect that Raf would have liked Rachel so much.
This is the third bookof the Magic in MAnhattan series. Of course, Sarah Mlynowski outshone herself again! i couldn't put the book down! it was awesome. Rachel is finally a witch and her sister Miri will attened this ball, caLLED A Samsorta. She keeps the secret from RAf and her dad. Then Rachel meets Adam a cute witch boy. But now RAchel has to choose between who she truly likes: her non warlock boyfriend or Adam?
This review comes from my daughter, who was surprised how the book unfolded. I was surprised how Rachel would tell everyone that she is a witch and meet new witches at different times. What really amazed me is that Adam tried to kiss Rachel when she had a boyfriend. And that Rachel broke up with Raf when they both love each other. Miri Iam surprised that she found her true love.

This the 4th book of the series Magic in Manhattan. I thought it was really funny. It's about a girl that has magical powers but has never know much of the magic community because her mother left her and her sister, Miri, in the dark for years. A few ago, her sister Miri discovered that she had magical powers. Then it all changed. The secret was revealed and as it turns out, their mother was a witch too. However, she never told their dad, and now it's up to them to tell them. Now, Rachel has to...more
This is the last book in this witchy sequel by Sarah M. Personally, I thought that the last book was the best :) It starts with how Raf suspects Rachel because he sees her with another guy and the guessing game begins. Great ending with how Raf, Rachel's boyfriend accepts the fact that she is a witch in the end. thumbs up! I love Happy Endings <3
