What little girl doesn't love princess stories? The tales are, of course, made more enjoyable by accompanying illustrations, but how about a book that presents not only the printed story and beautiful illustrations but also pop-ups? A TREASURY OF PRINCESS STORIES holds all of this in one tidy package.

With respect for the originals and in easy to understand prose Amy Ehrlich retells some of the most loved stories, tales that have been enjoyed through the ages as they're passed from one generatio
This is a large fiction book, complete with full-color illustrations and mini pop-ups to introduce each story. The paintings are my favorite part; they are painted in a very flaky, Monet-type way, with tons of yellow so that the lighting is bold and everything is bathed in a golden glow. I wish every character wasn't all Caucasian and Barbie-looking, though.

The pictures, the pop-ups, and the subject matter will make this a popular selection and good gift book. I didn't read it all, but it may be

Amy Ehrlich is the author of more than thirty books for young readers and is also a winner of The Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award for her novel Joyride, which was also chosen Booklist Choice Best Book of the Decade. She lives on a farm in Northern Vermont with her husband and a great many domestic and agricultural animals.
