I liked this book but I didn't all out love it. I don't know if I liked it more than the last one, but I did enjoy it. Rhys is a very lovable hero. Very tortured (yay for angsty heroes!) and Merry was an incredibly capable heroine. I completely believed their chemistry.

What brings it down to a four star was one of the things I had a problem with in the first one. It takes forEVER to finally get the info out about Rhys's past. We get a smidgen of information and then that same smidgen is basicall More...

The second installment of the Stud Club series almost didn’t feel like part of the series at all due in part to the fact that we really hadn’t gotten to know Rhys St. Maur very well at all in One Dance With A Duke, so in this book he seemed to me to be a totally new character. In addition to that, the continuing storyline revolving around Leo’s death didn’t really come into play until the latter part of the book. I didn’t mind any of this because Rhys’ and Meredith’s story was strong enough to s More...

Loved this book. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

Loved the heroine, who had watched and wanted the hero from afar since she was a girl. Loved how she found him beautiful, how she lusted after him, how she tried and tried to wear him down.

But most of all I loved Rhys. He is one of my favourite hero types -- strong, silent, tortured. Reserved and quiet, but with wit and humour and depth that he shows only to the heroine. Determined, almost dogged in his pursuits - most of his life seeking dea More...

I usually grade books based on gut instincts, which works well with GoodReads format: my gut generally knows pretty easily whether a book was okay, or I really liked it, or it was amazing. This book I had to grade in a more intellectual way, because I find myself really liking so many aspects of it, without exactly getting to that warm, squeeing, “I really liked this!” place. So here's everything I liked:

The hero, Rhys: one of those huge guys that I love. Life has been hard to him and it’s shape More...

Well kids, today I will teach you all a lesson about books. It is very important that you listen carefully to each word, because after reading this review you'll discover something very important. LOL.

I have always read each and every single book in a series. Never in my life have I not follow the reading order, not even if the book had the worsts reviews. But I'm ashame to let you all know that in this case I was about to do just that. It was said that books 1 and 3 were actually the good ones, More...

It took around 250 pages for this story to get to the point.

In the previous book, we learned that Rhys, the hero, has had a death wish for 10+ years. This is something that I expected to be addressed as soon as this book opened. Why would a big, strong, healthy, titled man wanted to die for half his life? Not complete revelations of course – I expected those to come slowly – but I really thought that was going to be the main conflict/plot of the book. Instead, most of the first 250 pages deal wi More...

Review @ Under the Covers

Rhys, Lord Ashworth, has decided to go back to his childhood home despite all the violent ghosts of this past that live there. After having a hellish childhood he has tried most his life to find ways to die, he joined the army and charged headlong into every fight, but without success, he always survives where other men fail. Now he is back though and determined to build something and equally determined to have Meredith Maddox, the owner of the Inn, the only source of in More...

Written by C.M. Lessard for RomanceNovelNews.com

As the newest Lord Ashworth, Rhys St Maur has a lot to make up for. After 14 years – with most of those years waging war on the battlefield - Rhys returns home to assess his inheritance, including the family estate at Nethermoor Hall. It is where he suffered relentless abuse as a child and the scene of a devastating stable fire that destroyed the property and almost killed him.

Upon entering the Three Hounds, a local inn run by the widow Meredith Ma More...

This one was definitely angstier than the first, which is why my rating it slightly lower. But that's totally based on my personal preference. I just typically like a "fluffier" sort of historical romance. That said, Rhys and Merry certainly have their lighter, wittier moments and their relationship is fun in the way some typical gender roles are reversed. Merry is a no-nonsense widow who has been attracted to Rhys for years. When he resurfaces she doesn't hide her desire to go to bed with him. More...

I liked it, but not as much as I expected. Rhys St. Maur didn't seem as grumpy as in the first book, and I like grumpy stories. His sad past that keeps on hunting him also didn't really hunt him until the later parts of the book. I think that has to do with the fact that he finds a purpose and some joy in the village, but still, I expected more angst and a bit more darkness.

Merry was a lovely and original heroine though, and I really liked her a lot. Especially her insistance that life isn't up More...

Wonderful read!! I won't do a full review as my friends have already reviewed this great read. Loved Rhys and Merry as a couple. The start was unique as it was Merry trying to get Rhys into bed without matrimony and then they switch places. There was a lot of chemistry between the two and I loved the tub scene and thought the orange scene was flat out sexy. Keep up the great work Ms. Dare. I hope someday we get to revisit the Stud Club as I didn't want to leave these couples, kinda like Kleypas' More...

I’m pretty sure I can’t begin every single romance review with Author X heats up the page with Book XYZ, because that gets a bit repetitive, but you know, I notice the sexytimes, given how much of the YA I read lacks sexytimes, and MG, well no sexytimes please because that is gross.

H’okay, so Twice Tempted By A Rogue by Tessa Dare is book two in the Stud Club trilogy.

It took me forever to finish this book. Well, 3 days but in romance-novel-reading time that's forever. I got tired of waiting for the BIG reveal towards the end although to be fair, I did like Rhys. In the first book all you get from him is he's huge and looks a little menacing but has a kind heart...in this book, he's such a sweetheart. He is haunted though, by his past and has many, many issues that he deals with in this book. I loved that part of the book.

Meredith was great too. It says some More...

This is my second read from the Stud Club series.

I think I will abandon this series. I started with Book 3 first, Three Nights with a Scoundrel, thus the mystery has been solved. Of course, being the second book on this series (yes, I am kind of random that way, picking up books not by its sequence), I hope it fared better than the 3rd one.

But oh my, I truly love Meredith, the owner of the tavern. She has her own opinion, she even smash the head of one burly strong man (I kind of like the openin More...

Deja vu. A few lines into the second volume of the Stud Club trilogy, I realised that Ms Dare had picked one of the supporting cast of One Dance with a Duke -- not necessarily the most sympathetic -- and decided to make him the hero of Book Two.

Fortunately, she removes him physically from the focus of the first volume and provides brief but welcome respite from the continuing saga of the Stud Club. Sadly, 'brief' is the operative word. Two of the characters from One Dance with a Duke return to More...

This historical was a little different than most of the ones I have read - and I think it was because of the location, one which I really liked. Even though Rhys St. Maur is a Lord, the majoirty of the book and story takes place on his ancestral lands where he has not been for 14 years. There is a lot of proving he needs to do to the locals. and the heroine, marry, is a friend (kinda) from childhood so there is a familiarity between them that I liked, but I haven't often seen in historicals. Whi More...

Tortured and broken war hero Rhys St Maur returns to his family estate on the moors of Devonshire after 14 years to find the people hostile except for one lovelywidow Meredith Maddox who has had a crush on him for 14 years. This book is not like other historical romance books where the heroine is lady like and carefull of her reputation. Merry has been widowed and bedded several other men who have stayed for a short time at her inn. Secretly she has tried to rid herself of the memory of Rhys wit More...

Okay, this may sound silly, but I tend to get a little teary whenever I read a decent romance. When I picked up Twice Tempted, I wasn't expecting it to completely blow Book 1 out of the waters - holy SMOKED KIPPER, did I ever bawl my eyes out! Which is why I am writing the review for Book 2 first - don't get me wrong, I adored Book 1 (One Dance With A Duke) - but I loved Twice Tempted so much more!

I don't think I've met a more emotionally-charged couple than Meredith and Rhys - they were so achi More...

Rhys St. Maur has been trying to kill himself for years, from getting in fights when he was younger to joining the army to fight Napoleon. Though he's broken bones and scars cover his body, Rhys is still around. And now he's the Earl of Ashworth, responsible for the people in the village in the moors of Devonshire. He's returned to rebuild his ancestral home and help his people, but they don't particularly want him back. His father was a horrible person who rarely paid the tradespeople and tende More...

This is the 2nd book in Dare's Stud Club series. I was really looking forward to it because Rhys intrigued me in the first book. He was so bent on self-destruction I wanted to see how his character would develop and what his past would reveal.

On that score I wasn't disappointed. Rhys really came alive for me. His past and his self-destructive bent were explained well, and we got a lot of insight into his character.

On the opposite side was Meredith. If Rhys was dark, brooding and complex, Mered More...

Loved it! I am a Tessa Dare fan. I like her style of writing. If find it easy to follow and just plain fun to read for the most part.

Continues the mystery of who killed Leo Chatwick, but that is far secondary to the complexity Dare creates in Rhys and Meredith. Meredith is a widow and innkeeper, daughter of the former stablemaster to the Ashworths. Ever since the Ashworth estate burned to the ground 14 years ago, the lords of the land have deserted it and its people, leaving Meredith and a few others to scrape together a living in remote Dartmoor. Rhys, now Lord Ashworth, returns to his childhood home intending to appoint a s More...

I was a little weary going into this book because of the mixed reviews....but I have to say that I enjoyed this book immensely.

Rhys St. Maur courted death. After enduring many hellish years of abuse then seeing death all around him during his time in the army, he just simply didn't care if he lived or died. And death always seemed to stay just out of his reach. Then Meredith storms into his world and he no longer wishes for death. He wishes for the love and affection of the strong-willed and in More...

This second in the Stud Club series has as much depth and texture as the first novel, and I liked it a lot, but perhaps a tad less than the first book. Rhys is a tortured hero, and I don't mind some battle scars in a romance hero, but I confess to being slightly less keen on the tortured, self-destructive ones, and Rhys is definitely one of these: abused as a child, reckless (and perceived as courageous) as a soldier, carrying a death wish around like a family signet ring, and increasingly convi More...

For as much as I loved One Dance with a Duke, I felt a bit more lukewarm toward Twice Tempted by a Rogue. (If memory serves, I had the same experience with the second book of Ms. Dare's previous trilogy.) The problem is I cannot quite put my finger on what specifically I didn't like.

Rhys isn't the "average" hero for a historical novel. He's quiet, not necessarily reserved but not flashy like a true member of the ton. He doesn't converse or even feel comfortable in society. He's the muscle, an a More...
