Hot, funny, sexy contemporary romance + hockey = one happy reader!

I'm lovin' this series--I haven't read a bad one yet! Rachel Gibson has me hooked and I couldn't be happier. I'm having a blast reading this series, and devour each one and can't wait to start the next. I'm a sucker for a sports romance, and a sports romance where the heroes are all studly, somewhat grumpy but ultimately sweet hockey players in love with their spunky heroines? I'm sold!

This one's the story of retired (due to a hor

Sadly, I was bored through most of the book. In five words? Boring. Uneventful. Lackluster. Forgettable. Predictable.

I used to be a huge fan of Rachel Gibson, but a few years back she changed her writing style and now her books are noticably shorter and have far less layers and plot development. The characters are more one dimensional than her earlier books too, and the heat just doesn't sizzle as well because of it. BUT, on the plus side she was always able to keep the dialog, heat and storyli

I've had this book on my kindle for awhile now so I decided to finally give it shot. Here’s my breakdown:

The pros:
* I liked the characters - they were solid
* There were definitely some funny moments
* The sex was steamy

The cons:
* Way overpriced at $7.99
* It would have been nice to get some updates or encounters with more of previous couples from this series, even if at a glimpse.
* The 3/4 of this book was really good and detailed - however the last third was incredibly rushed - it left a lot to b

This and #2 are my favorite out of the series so far. I loved Chelsea and the whole premise of her being a personal assistant to an injured hockey player.

Nothing but Trouble picks up right where True Love and Other Disasters left off. Mark Bressler, the former captain of the Chinooks, was nearly killed in a serious car accident 6 months prior. He's alive, but will never play hockey again due to the injuries he received in the car accident. Playing hockey was all he ever wanted to do and winning the Stanley Cup his life dream. Well the Chinooks have finally won the Stanley Cup, but Mark doesn't feel like he deserves any of the recognition because ...more

12/28/2014 -- Re-read

Not sure why I only gave this 4 Stars before. I don't adjust ratings, but if I did, I think it would be 4.5 Stars. Maybe its because of all the crappy reads I've had this year? Who knows, but this is a go to author for me. Even her 3 Star reads are better than most books available right now. Bitch about big publishing, but I do think they separated the chaf from the cash crops. Pretty apparent lately. I hope we can get to a happy medium. Maybe 2015 will be that year.

This is the my favorite in the series. I seriously don't think I've a ever cherished a contemporary romance this much. Chelsea and Mark are OTP for lifeeeeeee. Gah. So perfect.

3.5 stars.

I couldn't put this down because Rachel Gibson's storytelling was quite engaging but at the same time, it left me feeling a little bemused.

Separately, Mark and Chelsea were really interesting characters and there is no doubting their sexual chemistry; but there was just no emotional connection between them. It felt like something was missing. Especially when they finally caved into their intense chemistry and made a go of it. It just seemed like they were together because that's just

The former Captain of the Seattle Chinooks Hockey Team is recovering from an accident that ended his career. Mark Bressler misses hockey and is depressed about not being with the team when they win the Stanley Cup. The Chinooks organization keeps sending nurses to help him out, but Mark wants nothing to do with them. Chelsea Ross is an out-of-work actress in desperate need of a job. When she is hired to be a Home Healthcare Assistant to Mark Bressler, she thinks it's the answer to her prayers. B ...more

I love Rachel Gibson. I think her releasing 1 book a year is far too few books.

I liked the premise of this book and I like Gibson's writing style. Overall the book was very enjoyable.

There were some holes in the storyline, and the ending felt rushed (did I miss something or was the revelation on Mark's part super quick and did they not skip from casually fucking (basically) to proposing). I don't know, I just didn't feel like the relationship was fully developed and believably transitioned from

When he woke up in the hospital after a car accident that almost cost him his life, Mark Bressler knew his hockey career was over. Months later, the slow and incredibly painful rehabilitation process is no more crippling that the dark morass of self pity into which he's slid. Morose and beaten, he's lost everything that ever meant anything to him, and when his team wins the coveted Stanley Cup without him, it almost kills him. Another witty, sassy book about a Chinook hockey player and the one woman who finally catches him. Nothing new. It's Rachel Gibson's writing style that gets to me everytime. She can definitely write the romance and snarky, witty, funny lines! Up next in Spring 2011, another hockey player. There's a nice excerpt in the back of NBT.

3.5/5; 4 stars; B+

Rachel Gibson always delivers a fun romance with likeable characters. Her stories often have some insights into and commentary on human nature. This story was one where a quirky but determined woman helps a grumpy and messed up hockey player get on the road to recovery as well as helping him see that there is more than one way to excel at his sport. I liked that she also got him to come out of his self absorbed funk and finally notice that other people have their own struggles

Nothing is better than a sassy spunky heroine that hold no fear for a giant former professional hockey player!

I wonder why I let this book sit on my library so long when I knew that in the end I couldn't help but love it!
Hilarious banter between lovable characters is always Rachel Gibson's forte.

I held half a star because I wish the ending was less cheesy but beyond everything this book is one of my favorite that I could read over and over again.

I felt like Gibson wrote herself into a corner with this book.

The book's tone keeps reaching for light-hearted contemporary, but the hero Mark Bressler is a destroyed man. How do you write a comedic romance novel about a man whose hopes and dreams were shattered, along with his body, in a terrible car accident?

There is a lot a lot of telling in this book. Stuff like "Mark knew he wasn't an addict, he was just in pain" or "Chelsea had to re-evaluate her dreams and decide her future." I've read on

I could barely finish it. The first half went quickly, although the almost immediate lust right off the bat had me a little wary. Chelsea was an interesting heroine and kept me hooked at the beginning; Mark is the tortured type of hero, which I always have a soft spot for. All I felt they had between them though was lust, and it was hard for me to sense anything else. Definitely doesn't compare to my Gibson favorites: See Jane Score , It Must Be Love , and Truly Madly Yours .

This is my third Chinooks Hockey Team in a few days and find myself somewhat addicted. The books bring to mind Susan Elizabeth Phillip's series about the Chicago Stars, but Ms. Gibson's books are - to me, at any rate - less predictable and not always neatly putting everything in place in a sugary-sweet epilogue.
So far, I have not encountered insta-love (though that seems to be the case with Chinooks #1, which I will not read but mostly due to the "secret baby"-trope).

Anywho, the heroines of the

Fast, breezy read; sometimes humorous and overall enjoyable. That said, Nothing But Trouble doesn't bear too close an examination. Read it, enjoy it, and don't think too much about the shortcomings. I like Gibson's writing style and that carried me through a weak plot and somewhat underdeveloped characters. The fast pace kept me from dwelling too much on the missed opportunities for a deeper, more nuanced story.

A fun, relaxing way to spend a day on the beach, or cuddled on your couch on a rainy

This is a bright, fun story that renewed my interest in Gibson's books. I really enjoyed reading this. The characters are well-developed with a sizzling chemistry between them that sparks right off the page. I loved how their relationship developed from mutual irritation, to reluctant attraction, to sincere love.

A light, easy read.. WAY too many pop-culture references though.. Makes the book feel dated already and it just came out..

Other than that, a nice read. 3 1/2 Stars

I read my first Rachel Gibson book in 2007 and proceeded to go to the bookstore to buy all of her released books and read them all within the span of a month. When this book was released (2010), my author crush was well established. I would pre-order the books but also buy the ebooks so that I could start reading them at midnight. I’ve read this book a few times and was so excited when I found out that this had a really good narrator. (Unfortunately, some of her books have narrators that sound r ...more

I am a sucker for a sports-themed, contemporary romance and Gibson delivers on all counts.

First of all I must say it's pure Marketing genius to release a book about a hockey player during the height of the NHL playoffs, but you don't have to be a fan of sports or hockey in particular to enjoy Nothing But Trouble because there is very little actual "hockey" action contained within this book.

Mark Bressler, ex-captain of the Seattle Chinooks had it all. Fame, fortune and a brilliant career as a s

Oh, this was one sexy book (you couldn't tell from the pretty innocent cover, right?). Since this was my first Gibson book, I didn't know what to expect. It wasn't life-changing, but it was enjoyable and funny and -did I mention-sexy. Very much so.
As for the plot, it's your regular romance plot. They hate each other, they are attracted to each other, they have sex, a secret surfaces, there's tears and eventually a happy ending. I enjoyed it mostly because of the characters. You have a very House
