This book features adorable little pea characters, carrying out adventures with each letter of the alphabet. The illustrator and author, Keith Baker gives the peas arms and legs, as well as animating them with human characteristics such as hats, clothes, roles, and professions. “LMNO Peas” goes by each letter of the alphabet, picking words that start with each letter and draws the peas doing those actions or fulfilling those roles. The peas interact with the letters as if they are a part of the...more

So freaking awesome! This is a bunch of awesomeness! If anyone had ever told me that one day I would wish I was a pea I'd have..... I'd have..... I don't know what I'd have done! I never would have said 'pea' if anyone asked me what vegetable I'd be if I had to pick. But I 100% agree with Baker - I'd be a pea too! Who knew peas were to awesome and so totally cool?!
The book goes through the alphabet, fairly fast, with each page usually containing one letter, sometimes...more

Citation: LMNO Peas, by Keith Baker. (Beach Lane Books, 2010). 40p. Alphabet.

Summary: In this book, peas travel through the alphabet exploring career paths and leisure pursuits.

Critique: (a.) The style of this book makes it unique. Each letter is presented with a clever illustration, showing the peas trying out a career or activity. The rhyming text is short, leaving the new vocabulary and illustrations as the focus.

(b.) Each letter is shown taking up a large part of the page. The pea characters...more

The title of LMNO Peas leaves little to wonder about its content. Animatedly engaging peas take over this wonderfully illustrated book, bringing the readers on a journey through the alphabet and introducing them to all the things peas can be. The letters of the alphabet are displayed prominently on the pages, with most letters possessing a page to themselves; however, in the fashion of the popular children’s alphabet song, some letters, such as “L, M, N, O” share pages in the same manner in whi...more

a. This is a great book! The pictures are great and the whole idea of the book is great.

b. It was awesome that on each page there was a big letter, brightly colored and then careers or jobs that start with that letter with pictures going along with them. Each letter was a different bright color.

I chose this book because of the title. I thought the little peas were so cute. The first page lets you know that they are alphabet peas, "We work and play in the ABCs." The letter A states that they are acrobats, artists, and astronauts. The letters go on this way. I really liked this book at first because they had one letter per page. When you got to G H I, they were spread over two pages and it wasn't as detailed but at least you still got a two word description. You could still read the stor...more

' Who are you?'——' We are peas from A to Z'. What an intersting ABC book for little child! This book uses various colorful letters and words to let children remember them. It's useful in my view, at least, I remember all the words in it. I love the beautiful colors such as orange, pink, blue, green, etc. My favorite ltter that shows in it is 'S' just because I love blue most. So, 'Who are you?'——— 'Now tell me from A to Z'.

LMNO Peas by Keith Baker is an ap-PEA-ling ABC book that features peas who go through the alphabet showing all the different things they love to do, including a variety of occupations.

Energetic peas introduce themselves one page 1: We are peas - alphabet peas! We work and play in the ABC's. In two page spreads, covering from 1 to 4 letters at a time, the peas show and tell what they like to do, using nouns with the featured letter. The book concludes: We are peas from A to Z. This book takes children on a quirky and fun little journey through the alphabet with peas being the main characters.

a.) A major strength of this book is the illustrations.
b.) The illustrations are very detailed and varied all in a single page, which makes the reading a fun experience for young children. There is so much to look at! The pictures of the peas are themed with its correlating letter, and readers are so engrossed in the experience that they won’t even real...more

This book was for my ABC book. It was about this group of peas and their different jobs that started with each letter. One thing I do like about this book versus other ABC books I have seen is that it is NOT just a book with a letter and one thing that starts with that letter. It has complete sentences and multiple words used in the sentences. One example for the letter G is "We're gardeners, gigglers, givers and takers." It has little pictures of the peas doing each activity and the letters on...more

Genre: Alphabet Book

Summary: This book is teaching the alphabet from an action-packed perspective. Instead of listing stationary objects that begin with each letter of the alphabet, it personifies peas and portrays their busyness/business through the alphabet.

Critique:

(b) One of books greatest strength comes from the open/double spread approach. E...more

First of all, I liked this book very much. I thought that the pictures were really cute (loved the peas performing yoga), I thought it was funny, and I thought it was creative. I loved the variety of words the author used to illustrate each letter of the alphabet, and I thought the title was clever, too.

The kids, however, thought this book was "meh." After we read it they did take it and look at the pictures again, but I didn't get any real sense of engagement from them. The book quickly wound u...more

2. In LMNO Peas, uniquely personified peas take children on a journey through the alphabet. In the process, children learn of several occupations that begin with the letter on the page and learn that they can be anything.

3. The illustrations in this book are by far its best feature. The letters take up most of the page, while the peas weave in an out of them doing their various occupations, for example the peas are literally digging into the "M" when they are "miners" and...more

This is a very cute alphabet book, suitable for the youngest child all the way up to early elementary school age children.

The concept is that peas have a variety of jobs and activities that start with A through Z. Most pages have more than one activity per letter.

The peas are cute, the illustrations are fun, and I love that “We’re readers” represents the letter R. There are big uppercase letters in vivid (though not overly bright) colors, and a lot to view on each page. The pictures are cute and...more

1.This is an alphabet concept book.

2.The forgotten, underestimated and usually pushed to the side pea shows their true self. These small, green, round veggies take us on a trip through the alphabet identifying all of the occupations they perform. These amazing and “well-rounded” peas are everything from acrobats to gardeners to scientists and voters.

B. Keith Baker uses digital illustrations to take the reader through the world of peas. Vibrant colors with white space pop out with each turned page. LMNO Peas was very fun to read. I enjoyed reading this aloud as well as in my head. It had a wonderful rhyming rhythm that was very catching and impressive. Some of the words and phrases were scattered on the page and it was a little difficult to know the order. I knew what needed to be read just by the rhythm of the phrases, but for a child this would be harder to read in my opinion. But this book is a great book to read to a child because of its color pages, rhyming words, and big letters that...more

3.Critique:
