Seven hungry bird babies are wanting something to eat. Mama bird tries her hardest to make sure that each baby bird gets something to eat. One by one, each baby eats and falls asleep.

"Seven Hungry Babies" is appropriate for ages 3+.

I love this book! This book repeats itself, starting with seven hungry babies waiting for food. As Mama bird flies off to find some food, she soon has 6 hungry babies to feed...5...4...3...2...1. Zipping, flying, chasing, and struggling for food, Mama bird exhausts...more

A fun and irresistible picture book that all children (and their mothers!) are sure to love.

The story begins, “One spring morning, high in a nest, seven speckled eggs begin to – CRAAAACK! Then … “

Then a poor mother bird discovers how tiring taking care of her new baby chicks can be.

Lyrical, lively and slightly silly text tell the story of a mama bird who is (of course) Happy, at first, to care for her new baby birdies. But … mama bird is soon puffing and stumbling with exhaustion as she feeds...more

Not a big fan of Tippy Tippy Tippy Hide or Muncha Muncha Muncha, but I really did enjoy this book and would love to try it on a preschool audience, probably for a spring-themed storytime.

A mother bird has to feed her seven hungry chicks and so goes on seven food scavenging trips that leave her pooped. This one is funny and you can make it interactive by having the kids play the chicks and cuing them to say "Feed me! Feed me!" You can also do a call-and-response with your audience with the line...more

The story is about 7 hungry chicks who need their mom to feed them. Their mom goes out to different places and brings back food, but only one food item at a time, which only feeds one chick. The mother must go out and get food enough times to feed all 7 chicks.

The audience for this book would be a preschool classroom learning about numbers. Especially about counting forward and backwards.

I would use this book for teaching students subtraction or taking one away. It shows how when you take one...more

This book can be used to teach students about automatopias and using them in their writings. This can help them express their most passion thoughts. As the mother bird flies back and forth to feed her babies the reader can get a sense of her speed and sense of urgency. It helps the reader follow the story while the mother's love goes from heavily excitement to exhaustion.

This is a really fun counting book, with adorable illustrations and a lively, sing-song narrative. The rhymes and onomatopoeia combine to make this a terrific book to read aloud. And I loved the illustrations of the loving Mama bird, getting food for her babies and growing more and more weary as the book progresses.

I enjoyed this counting picture book. I think it would be a good read aloud, and a good flannel story if I could remember it well enough. I like that it was 7 and not 10, too many things are 10 the kids start guessing 10 or 5 right away. The ending is pretty funny too.

Are picture books supposed to be downers? This one sure is. Talk about your worn out mama. I really wondered if the mama bird was going to die at the end of the book. I didn't like it and I wouldn't recommend it.

Mother bird is trying to care for her 7 hungry babies. This book made me laugh out loud. I think all mothers have days that they feel like this mother bird. Is also a fun counting backwards book.

Awesome! Mama Bird is amazing! She also wises up and lets Daddy Bird have a go. I sure know what she feels with the demanding little birdies - - sure glad I don't have seven (haha).
Angela
Onomatopoeia and a funny repetitive story line make this a great read aloud. This is one of the few books that both my 3 year old and my 6 year old like to read together.
Kim
Cute story about a mom trying to feed her 7 hungry chicks. After she finally gets them all fed - they are all hungry again. She sends dad out next time
Kristin
Cute story, lively illustrations, and a fun quip at the end that mom's everywhere will love. This is a great book to recommend to families this Spring!

This story follows along the lines of the rhythm of 5 little ducklings or 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed...but with seven hungry baby birds. Mama bird goes out one at a time to find something for each of her chicks to eat. By the 7th trip she is exhausted, just when she thinks it is her time to rest, your off-spring are all awake again. What's a mama bird to do? Call on dad. Cracked me up.

Candace Fleming is so great for storytime! This isn't my favorite of hers, but the counting aspect of it would be very fun for young ones.

Candace Fleming does it again, with a simple, formulatic but very amusing story about seven demanding little birds.
Erica
A counting down story that rhymes & ends with a satisfying twists for feminists.

This is a cute story about a mother bird and her 7 hungry babies! She flies back and forth to feed her children until they are all fed. This is a good book to have students think of all the things their mom does for them and turn it into a Mother's Day Activity.
Joanie
Cute picture book that can be used to show subtraction.

“I personally loved the rhythm of this book. A tad long for my 8 month old but used to work.”
Kathy
Love the twist at the end. The kids love it!

I have always been a storyteller. Even before I could write my name, I could tell a good tale. And I told them all the time. As a preschooler, I told my neighbors all about my three-legged cat named Spot. In kindergarten, I told my classmates about the ghost that lived in my attic. And in first grade I told my teacher, Miss Harbart, all about my family's trip to Paris, France.

I told such a good st...more
