This is a real old-school cookbook. It has several kinds of cornbread, including just mixing corn meal with boiling water, shortening, and salt, and putting it, very thin, into the oven, for “corn crisps”—which are very good. Likewise, the pot roast with vegetables is about as simple as you can get, and very good. I just had it tonight, and will have some leftovers tomorrow, and probably a roast beef sandwich on Friday!
