I listened to these and this is what I've learnt:

Things you really need to know if you ever end up in fairy tale land.

Don’t rely on the love of your father if he is hungry and has a nagging second wife.

Cutting off bits of your toes or your heals is not the most effective way to win the prince. But if you do find this necessary, remember to cauterise the wound.

Always chew your food, Mr Wolf.

If you are female then men may well complain that you talk too much – but remaining silent for seven years

This book took me FOREVER to finish, obviously short stories aren't my cup of tea...

Anyways, I really did enjoy many of the stories in this book, they were highly entertaining and they were more than easy to follow and read.
Unfortunately I did find that many of the stories were too short which left me wanting to put the book down more than I care to admit.

These are some dark stories, but it was interesting to hear the origins of some of our softer bedtime stories/Disney movies. Seriously why did Disney feel the need to edit the part about the ugly stepsisters hacking up their feet and getting their eyes plucked out?

I like the stories. However, the language could have been a little more sanitized for little kids (e.g "simpleton")

It was quite entertaining to read these stories with out them being softened or disneytized. My favorites from my edition which is not a complete collection are Clever Grethel, Hans in Luck, The Three Spinsters, The Gallant Tailor, and King Thrushbeard. I of course enjoyed the classics like Snow White, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Aschenputtel (Cinderella). Some of them are just odd, like The Rabbit's Bride,Prudent Hans, and Clever Else. The Frog Prince ended a little differently than e ...more

I read my mom's copy of Grimm's fairy tales to tatters as a kid - the cover fell off. I was intrigued by their gruesomeness, as opposed to the sanitized versions in my kids' books.
I read some in French as part of a literature and psychology class in Pau. It was entertaining to read familiar tales in French (Freudian analysis - not so fun).
I also read some Grimm in German. I think I still have the book, but probably couldn't understand it anymore.

It's probably because of this book that my sight is that bad today.
I used to read it again and again in my bed at night with poor light when I was young.

Now I'm collecting Grimm Brothers books (and others fairytales).

It was a great book. I just read the "true" version of many fairytales we've been watching or reading when we were very young. I was much surprised over the changes that Disney have made in the stories of Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Let's move to next book.

its not that bad , the stories are well written in French you don't notice that the book is translated . I had some stories that I really enjoyed . Overall it was a nice experience !

Interessante e molto suggestivo.

I forgot how strange some of these stories are and misogyny runs rampant throughout, but still, entertaining. You can see why we still love them.

Okay, now I remember that not all German literature traumatized me. Grimm's fairy tales were absolutely comforting compared to Kafka et al.
