I'm giving this book two stars, because while it was good, it was not one of the best things I've ever read. It didn't get interesting for me until after the first couple hundred pages. This is the second of Lynsay Sands's books that I've read, 'The Perfect Wife' being the first, and my rating for this one is the same as the one I gave the other one: Disappointing.

The female leads in both of these books had no dimension and were silly beyond compare. Terri was not credible as a university professor, unless she is one of those genius-in-their-professional-expertise/not-very-bright-in-the-real-world types. The female leads in both of these books had no dimension and were silly beyond compare. Terri was not credible as a university professor, unless she is one of those genius-in-their-professional-expertise/not-very-bright-in-the-real-world types. Her dialogue, her thoughts, everything about her was juvenile and shallow. She was meant to seem innocent, but she came across as idiotic, or as they would say in Britain, thick.

The emotions of the other characters are simplistic, their personal development just about nil. Vincent was extremely irritating at the beginning of the book with his acting schtick and having no idea of the consequences to Bastien of feeding on his cousin's maid. Though I'm certain that Sands meant for this to be funny, it was far from it. The same goes for the C.K. character and his mishaps. Cringe-worthy, not amusing.

Bastien was likable enough, though not enough was explained about him (i.e., backstory). I realise that he appeared in previous novels in this series and I don't know how much readers were told about him in these books, but he should have been a well-rounded character in this particular book, which he wasn't. I would have liked to know more about him, about how he coped with being the head of the family and his relationship with the woman he had loved in the past, even if not in extreme detail. Regardless, it wasn't enough.

Another thing is that Sands seems to feel compelled to explain everything, no matter how obvious it already is to the reader or how trivial or unnecessary it might be, like in one scene where Terri is waiting for Bastien in his office:

"... She settled on a Diet Coke, grabbed a glass from the collection under the bar and poured her drink, then carried it back to the couch. Of course, Terri forgot all about her purse, which she'd set on the floor out of the way. But not out of the way enough. She tripped over the darn thing, and stumbled forward."

This whole bit - explaining about the purse... doesn't need to be spelt out! There are other ways to move the plot along, to induce the characters to action.

The use of language was also painful. I can't recall specifics offhand, but many times during the reading of this book, I had to pause at the use of 'darn' and 'heck' and geez-type expressions... It's fine to not want to use curse words, but the use of language here was artificial. (...Though there were some 'damned pigeons', at least. Aggressive creatures, apparently, which confused me to no end. In defence of pigeons, I've always seen them as non-aggressive. They are ground-feeders and compared to most other birds, they're downright docile. They won't go up to people and steal their food. They can be a nuisance and they will walk in your path or cautiously approach you to remind you they're there. But they are not aggressive, just numerous.) (OK - so I have a soft spot for pigeons...)

As for New York City, it was hard to believe this story took place there, since there were so few mentions of specific locations or landmarks. Bastien's office had a great view of 'the city'. I needed to know more. It almost felt as if Sands has never been to NYC herself, or feels very little love for the place (though her note to the Reader at the beginning of the book indicates otherwise). I'm not saying she has to go into specifics to the point of boring or alienating readers, but it would be nice to have a more vivid description of the locations these people lived and worked. Throwing in a few contrasts between NYC and where Terri lived, or even a little information on where Terri lived, might have been nice.

Then there's the humour. It was immature and in-your-face and for the most part, not there. Like in 'The Perfect Wife', the anecdotes and characters' self-talk (mainly what Terri was thinking to herself) were pointless and silly, not to mention contrived. Again, cringe-worthy. I love humour, I enjoy a fun read, but Sands's attempt at humour and fun was unsuccessful.

To be fair, I plan on reading the first couple of novels in this series, as well as 'Love Is Blind' (which I bought a while back), in the hope that Sands can pen a decent story.

Fast paced and brilliant, the story focuses upon the vampire character Bastian and the mortal character Terri and how their relationship develop with some unusual twists and turns. Read this one as I knew it would be a quickie.

I have to say it felt like a lot of filler. A LOT. Not the plots or chapters, but the paragraphs themselves. She would say a sentence then practically repeat the same thing in the next sentence, just worded ever so slightly different.

The plot is standard romance fluff. Nothing special there. The friend/coworker of Kate was used as comic relief, and added tension. I feel he was flogged needlessly just to give the main character...more

Bastien is the second oldest of Argeneau children and the most take charge. He is in charge of the family business, and he is the go to guy when you need something done. So as you can probably tell he hardly has time for himself much less time to find love. Plus he has some reluctance when it comes to love, once being in love with a human female and being completely rejected his faith in love has been shaken. Can someone really fall in love with what he is. Seems that luck is on his side, and might have found a mate in his sister-in-law’s cousin when she appears to help plan the wedding between Lucern and Kate ( check Single White Vampire). Seems that all business and no play Bastien is about to shake things up. So he’s no longer a dull boy.

Terri is in New York to help plan her cousins wedding, and the brother of the groom is a dream boat all tall, dark and handsome…… So events lead to Terri staying with Bastien at his penthouse with Bastien’s cousin Vincent, and Kate’s co-worker Chris aka CK. Terri knows what its like to lose a love one to a chronic debilitating illness, and when she finds IV stands, syringes and bags of blood she realizes that Bastien might not be as healthy as he appears. One thing Terri cant do again is watch a man she loves succumb to an illness and die. She does love Bastien and she loves him something fierce. Who would have thought that a trip to plan a wedding would lead to an happily ever-after or a not so happy ending.

This book was one disaster after another. Some of the situations was funny when it included CK, what a funny guy. I thought that Terri’s character was a little on the annoying side, way too many mishaps with this one. I did enjoy Bastien though, all cool and collected, mmmmm yummo. Although not my fave of the series I did enjoy reading it because you cant help but get drawn into this wonderful vampiric family antics. A fun light read with a little blood and a nice amount of a laugh plus it Canadian. BING!!!! Just sold it right there.

Not finished yet, but it's really bugging me the way they are treating Chris, the editor w/ the broken leg. Hate to tell you, Bastien, but being cruel to someone who is hurt and helpless is NOT a turn on.

Really all my feelings on this book can be summed up in one large groan. I had been looking forward to reading about Bastien too. Bastien really could've been an interesting character, but Sands made him out to be a soft snuggle bunny with fangs. And Terri was unbelievably sweet. I just stumbled across this book at the grocery store and it looked decent. I didn't realize it was a part of a series nor the fourth book. The good thing is that you can't tell that you're in the middle of a series. This book is written as if it is its own.

All of a sudden Mr.Reliable is having problems getting what he needs.

Terri is taking time out of her teaching job in England to attend her cousins wedding, she is looking forward to everything and is a little disappointed to learn that Kate wont actually be around. She has been called off to work and has left Terri in the very capable hands of Bastien - not that Terri complains much once she meets the gorgeous Argeneau. They spend the first week running around helping to organise the wedding, as well as sight see and get to know each other better. In Terri's eyes Bastien is the perfect man, that is of course until she discovers he has been hiding a secret - one she can't cope with. Silly man!! And her heart breaks for the second time.

I really enjoyed this book. I swear this series just keeps getting better and better. And finally we get to see Bastien get his woman! I love this man, he's my favorite of the Argeneau brothers. He has been craving love for a long time, and watching his siblings with their life-mates has been torture for him. When Terri comes to stay with him the attraction is instant and he does everything he can to woo her. And it works too. I mean who could refuse the tall, dark and fangy Bastien with all his charm? I for one can not! However, my sexy vampire messes up in a big way and hearts get broken in the process. I cried a little when that happen. *sniff* But it made for a great read.

There were several great scenes in here, most of which had me in tears laughing - and a few which had me crying for different reasons. Like when Terri walks in on Vincent feeding from the maid and she thinks he is just method acting. She's a theater buff and hits it off with him straight away - which makes Bastien jealous beyond belief. LOL. This is followed by a brilliant scene in which Chris from the last book is hit with a toilet!! And has to stay with Bastien also. Poor Chris has no luck in this book, it's just one thing after another. Then there is all the wedding drama, Kate would have been having heart failure if she had been around. It wasn't all laughs however and I found myself crying at poor Terri's past, and her fear of losing Bastien in the same way. The end of the book will have you in tears, there's just so much heartache and regret and tears for Terri - and my Bastien suffers for his stupidity. Poor baby! *sniff*

But, lets not forget all the steamy action. Bastien is something else ladies!! There is this one part where he and Terri are sampling food for Kate and Lucern's wedding, and when everyone else goes off to bed they decide to share some desert. Mmm... Terri loves trifle so when Bastien asks for some she is reluctant to share at first - but when the saucy devil starts to eat it off her chest all Terri can do is lay back and enjoy the feast! I swear this is such a memorable scene for me. It was so sexy, and I really envied them their jello and cream fun-time... lol. Then of course Bastien doesn't let the woman leave his bed for god knows how long afterwards. I'm so jealous!! *pouts* LOL

Anywho, enough of my sulking. This is a great read, and as I said before the series is just getting better. You should really grab a copy and see for yourselves.

I'm a bit disappointed! I really like Bastien, and I was hoping his book would be so sexy and he would get the perfect heroine to shake him up! But that's not exactly how I feel after reading this book.

First of all, I felt a lack of the humor that was always present in the past books in this series. I don't think I can recall one moment where I was really laughing like in Single White Vampire. Yes, there's some moments you could consider funny, but it wasn't the same.

Disaster after disaster befall all the plans Kate & Lucern had made and Bastien and Terri have to deal with them while falling in love.

This was a straight up romance book with a little added humor becase of the whole vampire element. It's a shame that the editor, CK who has proven quite entertaining over the past 2 books, and has also been a big character, will just disappear. I checked Sands' website and she said he is based on a real person and the real CK hasn't found a life mate yet so the fictional one hasn't either. That seems a waste. It's always silly to be to bother with a character that just screams "pity me" and not give them some kind of happy ending. A promotion, a hot girlfriend, winning the lotto... something.. I mean he's be bitten by 2 vampires, had his mind control multiple times, broken his leg and countless other horrible things, it would have been nice to at least in passing given him something.

What I like most about this book was that nobody got staked. I saw the potential for it to happen and fully expected it and was pleasantly surprised it didn't happen. It was actually a shame that she had set this one up early in the story and left it as an open storyline through the entire book. The wrap up seemed a little like she had forgotten about it and added it in, but that was okay.

My only gripe about this book was that she still did the thing where she added too many conflicts unnecessarily to seemingly pad the book, because all her relationship conflicts come at the end. Terri had proven to be a take charge and honestly gal, someone who doesn't play games, just gets the facts even when in the story things could have fallen apart for the couple. So it seemed uncharacteristic when she ran away instead of asking a simple question. There was still room for the obvious conflict regarding the Argeneau family's vampirism, but there were about 40 pages wasted on her running away from a misunderstanding, that anyother time in the book she wouldn't have done.

A bonus? Another interesting cousin was introduced, Vincent Argeneau. Add him to Thomas and the cousins are a lo of fun. And Mother Argeneau and her matchmaking were absent from this book for the most part, which was nice. It was good to see someone capable of taking care of himself, mostly, after 400 years.

Up next, book 5, A Bite to Remember, which is Vincent's story. I'm going to take a few books off before starting this one however.(less)

Bastien and Terri are an amorous couple that has piqued my interest from the beginning. Bastien could be any girl's perfect guy while Terri is a good role model for girls reading the books. She has been through heartache and handles emotional turmoil like any normal girl would. Bastien is the man who will always be there and respects not only a woman's body but her mind as well. I admire their love and his daring especially. ;) Perfect love story for any girl to read.

Just finished it. I wanted to give it a higher rating - it had the potential to be a lot more interesting - but it unfortunately diffused the tension in every single situation to the point of boredom. If the main characters were uncertain, one would say "I am uncertain about.." and that was it. The final scenes were especially disorganized and made little sense and that whole link between Atlantis and vampirism (?!) made no sense. Lots of exposition, not a lot of conflict, but it wasn't as stupid as most of the vamp books I've tried to read. Terri has flown in to help with her cousin's wedding, Lucern is a broody vampire asked to put her up for the week. They flirt, they shop. Really short on sexual tension, and isn't that the whole purpose of a vamp book? and no plot at all. conflict, she thinks he's sick, she can't do that again, she doesn't bother to ask a simple question. BLech.

Just kidding! I couldn’t resist. Of course, I’m not a vampire. I wouldn’t mind being one. It would be a heck of a diet and I’m always looking for a successful diet, but despite not being a vampire…well…a gal can dream can’t she? And that’s what books are; waking dreams or stories, tales to amuse, entertain and distract us from everyday life.

I love books. Reading books takes me away to other worlds and on grand adventures I just couldn’t have otherwise. Writing them does the same, but also lets me play God for a bit. I know that sounds weird, but when writing my stories, I decide who lives and dies, who succeeds or fails and so on. I can give the good guys the happy endings they deserve and be sure the bad guys lose and get their comeuppance. Unfortunately, that’s something that doesn’t always happen in real life.

Perhaps that’s why writers write. Maybe we writers are all secret control freaks, wanting to control the world. Or maybe we’re just dreamers lucky enough to be able to make a living at dreaming. Either way I love writing and would do it whether I was paid for it or not. But I’m very very grateful to be able to share these stories with you. I hope they help you escape your troubles and trials if only for a little bit, and I hope they make you smile…You can be certain I’m often chuckling myself silly while writing them. Enjoy!
