I really enjoyed reading the first two books, What to Expect When You're Expecting and What to Expect the First Year. However, I found both my children started to diverge from the "normal expectations" toward the end of the first year.
Although the toddler volume is useful for warning signs for certain disorders and as a basic checklist for development, the milestones in the book were not consistent with my childrens' development.

I liked What to Expect the First Year, even if I didn't agree with all of the advice. This book is woefully out of date and didactic. I could not finish reading this, stopping at about 15 months. I either disagreed with the advice, knew the advice to be incorrect, or thought the authors were patronizing me. Perhaps if they update the book, it might be a better read. Until then, find another source of information for the toddler years.

This book as saved my pediatrician more sleep then he will ever know! Why is that your child falls hard on his head in the evening? Spikes a fever in the middle of the night? Becomes seemingly horrendously ill on Sunday? This book has answered so many of my questions and equipped me to better handle the medical aspects of parenting.

Take the advice as one perspective in raising a toddler; some of it is a bit restrictive for everyday life (e.g. The Best Odds Diet). But balanced with other viewpoints, is a decent reference of general inquiries.

I found that by the time my kids were toddlers, they were following their own rate of development that never really fit this book. So I pretty much never used it.
(I collected a bunch of these pregnancy and childrearing books through the prenatal incentive programs my insurance offered, by the way) :)

I know it's lame that the first book I added was this one, but this really is a great book. It offers up a lot of suggestions and helpful hints for just about any situation. Let's just put it this way, I think Ron and I would have lost our minds this past year if we hadnt had this book.

For parenting advice, I give it 1 or 2 stars only. As a guide to refer to so you have some idea if your child is developing normally or what to do when he's sick, however, it was very helpful. I didn't turn to it as often as What to Expect the First Year, but I did turn to it.

I have used this a little, but I didn't read it page by page like I did with What to Expect when You're Expecting. It has helped a little, but I think sometimes too much reading about parenting and where your child "should" be developmentaly can make you go crazy.

As always, these books are very informative. The main reason I picked up this book was to read the section about potty training. I found the potty training section very helpful. However, I'll keep you updated as to if the tips actually work. I hope so!

Great resource book. I especially like the index. If my child has some kind of problem, I can look up information by the subject in the back. I have found it a very useful tool with valuable information as I have been raising my children.

I've accessed this book for questions a few times, but doesn't give as clear and helpful hints as the other books in the What To Expect series. However, it is helpful for questions about sicknesses and owies.

This book has a lot of great information about toddlers in it. I use it month to month to find out some of the things Elliot may or may not be doing. It's also cool for tips on illnesses, discipline, etc...

Great as an ongoing reference, just as "What to Expect when you're Expecting" and "What to Expect the First Year" helped me not freak out too much or spend too much time in doctors' offices.

i spent years taking care of toddlers and this book is the most detailed and reassuring on the subject that i've ever seen. toddlers do some really baffling things.
