What an awesome, fast paced, action packed, thrilling adventure! This story is one that just grabs ahold of it's reader and doesn't let them go until the last page. The story centers on Luke, the son of the President of the United States. While on a trip to Camp David with his dad, an destructive earthquake hits MO, causing his father to promptly return to the White House leaving Luke behind with his own secret service men, and his best friend Theodore. While I think it could have been tighter in places, this is a solid, engaging, and suspenseful story that I think kids will definitely enjoy and teachers may find creative ways to use in their classrooms. This is ultimately a story in which kids have zero adults to help them and have to act both creatively and responsibly in order to escape a very dangerous situation. In order to survive within the camp and escape the encroaching fire, Luke and his friends draw on their knowledge of both science More...

"Yield not to misfortunes, but rather go more boldly to meet them."

This is the guiding principle that motivates Luke and his friends to face the adversity of nature on a rampage.

An innocent moment triggers a life-threatening disaster that forces Luke and his friends (Callie and Theo), along with the secret service agent assigned to protect him, to use all their wits and intelligence to save themselves from one of nature's most destructive forces.

I won this book as a First Reads give away and I am glad I did. I thought this was an exciting adventure story for kids. The story was fast paced and the characters were realistic enough that readers will be able to relate to them. I liked the fact that even though Luke was the president's son he didn't have all the answers and he acted like a real kid at times. His friends were real kids too just in extraordinary situations. I liked that Callie was whiny and distrustful and that Theo is obsesse More...

In the first book of the new series Danger's Edge, 12yo Luke, son of the President, worries deeply about terrorists and crazy people. While he is on vacation at Camp David with best friend and fellow robotics nut Theo, he feels safer than he has in a long time. Just after Callie, Chef's daughter and Luke's long-time enemy arrives, a disastrous earthquake strikes. When a wildfire surrounds the camp, injuring and possibly killing several adults during evacuation, Luke and his friend More...

Reading books like this one encourage me to be grateful for the life I have. I have no desire to live a life as structured and stifling as the one Luke lives. To be followed almost everywhere by bodyguards or the media would drive me bananas. I like my privacy. It would also be so very easy to become dependent on those around you. This kind of book makes me wonder what I would do in the same situation.

In this book, Luke struggles to find a sense of normalcy with his friend Theo More...

This book isn't really that realistic. I liked Wolf Stom better.
This book is about a boy named Luke and he's the son of the president of the United States. Right now they're both at Camp David, a place where the president and his family can go on vacation. When an earthquake starts a forest fire, well two actually, they are forced to evacuate the camp but then just when they are getting out they run into the fence surounding the camp and now Luke and his friends are stuck inside the camp, More...

Look out Alex Rider...Wildfire Run by Dee Garretson is a great adventure.

Luke is just a normal kid, except that he isn't. He is the son of the President of the United States. While on vacation with a friend, at Camp David, an earthquake sets off a series of events that could prove very dangerous. Luke is put in a position of outsmarting the security of Camp David in order to survive. Mix in an old girlfriend and...well you get the picture.

I would recommend this book to studen More...

An action-packed adventure around Luke, the son of the President of the United States, who spends time of his summer vacation at Camp David with his friend Theo. An earthquake causes fire to break out around Camp David and circumstances force Luke, Theo and Callie (she is the new chef's daughter) to save the day. I know boys and girls at our school will love this book, all its action, adventure, and the amazing contraptions built by the kids to escape the fire - for me, it got a bit too long in More...

Typical juvenile book. There seemed to be a lot of technical explanations on the contraptions the kids invented to save themselves from the fire. Kids really into science would really like this book. The adventure wasn't as intense as I wanted it to be for a book about a wildfire.

I plan on booktalking this to 3-5th graders and I think it will go over well with this age group.

A young adult book (or younger) but a fun read. It was set in Camp David which I didn't know much about previously. It's also about the President's son and makes you glad you're not him. Although I think the point of the book is to prove how he finds his identity and overcomes some of the limitations he has as the President's son.

Interesting story. Luke is the son of the president. He is at Camp David with a friend when an earthquake hits Missouri causing wildfires near Camp David. Luke, his friend, Theo, Callie, and several SS agents are caught in Camp David without a way override the security measures to escape the wildfire. While the concept is a little unrealistic, the story is suspenseful to keep readers attention as Luke tries one plan after another to escape.

This story requires a heavy suspension of disbelief. The herd of deer running straight into the cars just as they're leaving Camp David. A little unusual, but okay..the deer were running from a fire. The group of motorcycle bikers showing up right after, yes, maybe they were lost...but kinda of pushing it. The dog causing the car to swerve into the guard house and (b/c the car is armor plated) totally destroy it, a little much. The two rescue helicopters crashing into each other as they att More...

"A relaxing retreat to Camp David turns deadly after a faraway earthquake sets off a a chain of disastrous events that traps the president's twelve-year-old son, Luke, and his two friends within the compound."

Give to boys who like Hatchet or want adventure in a book. Although the protagonist is young, if you can sell the boys on the book, they should like it.
