"I Will" by Lisa Kleypas - I really liked this story. Andrew, Lord Drake, needs the help of his disapproving friend's sister, Caroline Hargreaves. She is a slight spinster, someone who he has never been attracted to in the past but his recent sobriety helps him to acknowledge her charms. He needs her to help him convince his father that he's changed his rakehell ways. Andrew is afraid that his father will leave all the unentailed fortune elsewhere and he is roping Caroline into his scheme. Of co...more

I only read Lisa Kleypas' story ”wish List.” - it's more 3.5 stars, really.

As always, I enjoy Kleypas' writing. I enjoyed this one, though it won't top as one of my favorites. I was glad to see that Andrew, Lord Drake/Rochester finally turned his life around and became a good hero in his own story. This story really showed that he just needed to get the love, encouragement, and faith (he never got from his father) to become the wonderful man that was inside him all along. He got that from Caroli...more

I loved all of the books, except for the second last one I think. The best story was the last one because I thought it was going to be a typical formula plotted story about a girl whose father drinks and gambles and the owner of the gambling hall is the Hero, but it's so much more than that. At first, when I started reading the final story (there are 4 in this anthology), I was like "oh my god, *long drawn out sigh* another depressing story about a strong-willed woman?" -- But I was totally prov...more

Lisa Kleypas' "I Wish" is of her typical style, yet it was rushed as it was part of a short-story anthology. ☆☆☆
"Puddings, Pastries, and Thou" by Lisa Cach was a similar historical romance, not as rushed, but still not long enough to develop the characters. The main character's obsession with food was a little strange. ☆☆☆
"Union" by Claudia Dain just didn't work for me. It wasn't quite believable.☆☆
Lyndsay Sands' "All I Want" was pretty good, although the main character was a disaster waitin...more

I enjoyed the Kleypas story...I Will...Drake changed for the better...and that was a lovely journey for him...Caroline was a good girl and made him toe the line...I like that!

"Puddings, Pastries, and Thou" was cute...She just kept eating! BUT, she had never been full for so many years and I could understand it. I loved the way they didn't know each other long but they KNEW each other...well done!

The other two were okay...but didn't really draw me in. They seemed rushed...and even though the firs...more

I Will, Lisa Kleypas
Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for this? I didn't like either of the characters at the beginning. Andrew comes across as really selfish and manipulative and Caroline seems shrewish and judgmental. I was really annoyed with how quickly Caroline's opinion of Andrew changed. One second he's "repulsive" (no really, she tells him she finds him repulsive twice) and then he magically gets a haircut and a tan and she wants to "throw herself against his tall, hard body and kiss...more

I Will by Lisa Kleypas

Andrew, Lord Drake, has been disinherited for his debaucherous ways by his father who is on his deathbed. Andrew concocts a ruse in which he will court a decent young women and pretend he's reformed until his father's death. He decides there is only one choice, his friend Cade's spinster sister, Caroline Hargreaves. You can't find a more decent young women or a more perfect ally for his ruse since he can offer Caroline something she desires: for Andrew to end his friendshi...more

The thing about these anthologies is that they are short stories. So, the story reaches a climax and solution within 100 pages or fewer. Sometimes, this makes for a less than believable story. Often, there is an acceleration of time to make the story more realistic. Nevertheless, I enjoy anthologies as long as the stories are cute and steamy! I have to say that the first story by Lisa Kleypas (one of my fave authors) was the most exciting. The other ones kind of lost me. They weren't as interest...more

My rating is for Lisa Kleypas's "I Will", oh Andrew the sexy honey! :p Now I'll have to add a review soon. hahahaha

I pick this novella since I was trying to read new authors (other than Lisa Kleypas).

It seemed that this book just went downhill, from one story to another. Even Lisa Kleypas''I Will' was not good.

As for Lisa Cach and Claudia Dain, I would never try their books.

The only redeeming story, that has a good storyline was the last novella by Lynsay Sands, hence the additional 1 star is attributable to her 'All I Want' novella

"I Will" was a great wrap up to the Capital Theatre series, a story of a faked relationship between a spinster and a rake trying to pull one over on his dying father to get back into the will. And then it starts to turn real. An awesome scene at the end where she gets her vengeance.

"Puddings, Pastries, and Thou" is the story of a poor relation desperate for marriage to have for once her own home and family, rather than living off the charity of others. The daughter of the cousins she's staying w...more

"I Will" - SOOOO GOOD!! For a short story (of ONLY 100 pages) it has a surprising amount of depth to the story. I couldn't put it down even though it was SO late! WAY TO GO Lisa!!! 5 stars!

"Puddings, Pastries, and Thou" - I really enjoyed watching the quick development between these two characters. I liked how, even though it was FAST, their relationship development was substantial. Not all short stories can pull it off in such a short time span. Most jump ahead a few weeks or months to give the...more

Lisa Kleypas I Will

Lisa Cach- Puddings Pastries & Thou. Richard and Vivian's story is unique.

Claudia Dain- Union. Well written story of a man looking for a wife as he needed an heir and a young woman not wanting to marry but having to fulfill her family duty and marry the right man. Which to her meant he had property in Ireland. 9/8/2010

This short story is my favorite of all LK's short stories. The magic is in this one!

This is the story of Andrew, Lord Drake who is Logan Scott's childhood friend from Because You're Mine. In that book he is a good for nothing gambling, whoring, drunkard. You can tell he is starting to change his life around but had a long way to go. I was sort of surprised to see him as the hero of this book. I didn't think he could be redeemed, but of course LK can do anything. It starts out rocky as he is tryi...more

I agree with the other reviews that Lisa Kleypas's "I Will" is the best story in this anthology, I enjoyed reading it and I loved the Christmas theme. It's a good book that you might snuggle up with hot cocoa in someplace warm. All four stories are about Christmas wishes coming true, thus, the title. As with other anthologies, I always review the individual stories, so here goes:

I Will - I loved the story, another unlikely pair comparable to her other books but way different characters. LK wrote...more

The only decent story in this book was Lisa Kleypas's. Lisa Cach's, in particular, was an absolute chore to get through, and the other two weren't much better. The only one worth reading is Lisa Kleypas's. It's about Andrew, Lord Drake, Logan Scott's half-brother, and it's delightful. I wish it could have been its own full length novel. Ah, well.

Very interesting book. I've not read period pieces until I read this book. Each story dealt with a couple in London in the 1800s. These weren't just bodice-rippers, these stories had some interesting plots to go with them. A great read for those who like period stories or romance stories.

The best story in this book was "Wish List". The heroine was funny, gutsy, and the hero was an equal match. A bit disappointed in Kleypas's entry which was almost boring. Strange since I normally enjoy her books. The other stories were a bit rushed (but then the book was a four in one) and the heroine in the third story was soooo annoying.
Electric Landlady
This was fine but not fabulous. I don't think novella is Kleypas's natural writing length. My fave story was the second. The third utterly failed to grip. The fourth contained an egregious though incidental factual error (horses can't vomit!) that had me rolling my eyes.

Just finished this I liked it for the most part.

First story: "I will" by Lisa Kleypas
Second story: "Puddings, Pastries, and Thou" by Lisa Cach
Third story: "Union" by Claudia Dain
Fourth story: "All I Want" by Lynsay Sands

Kleypas - "I Will" - Short, interesting romance between a rake and a spinster. My first story by Kleypas. I really love the way she writes. The words just fly off the page and even for a short story, I felt the emotion of the story.
Maggie
I loved the Losa Kleypas novella "I Will", I can totally see why it won the RITA award. Puddings, Pastries and Thou by Lisa Catch was also very good, I liked it more than Union and All I Want although the last two stories did very well with plot development.

RATING FOR LISA KLEYPAS - I WISH ONLY (I didn't read the other ones)

I absolutely loved this story. The only bad thing about it is that it's only 100 pages, I would have loved a whole book dedicated to this couple. It's a sweet story.

Emily
This was ok. I enjoyed two stories, skimmed one of them (it's hard to enjoy a story when you really, really don't like the heroine), and quite liked the last. So, pretty much a standard collection of romance short stories.
Annie
I know it's a bit irregular to be reading christmas stories this time of year, but i really couldn't work up any enthusiam for christmas at the proper time, and this was an enjoyable little compilation.
Cris
A fun read for this time of year. The stories are short and "feel-good." loved the story by Lisa Kleypas, thoroughly disliked the one by Dain. The other two were Ok; likable characters and fun.
Manuela
Letto solo il racconto I Will di Lisa Kleypas.

Carino, ma come sempre in questi racconti tutto avviene in maniera troppo frettolosa. Però la Kleypas si vede anche in poche pagine.
Janine
I would give Lisa Kleypas's "I Will" an 8/10. I know I read the others, but I don't even remember them now . . . so, I guess they weren't that remarkable.
