Beloved children's book author and speaker Pat Mora has written an original collection of poems, each with a different teen narrator sharing unique thoughts, moments, sadness, or heart’s desire: the girl who loves swimming, plunging into the water that creates her own world; the guy who leaves flowers on the windshield of the girl he likes. Each of the teens in these 50 or...more

Everyone has experienced love, whether giving or receiving. For some it's spending time with their pet. For others, it's sitting down with a book. And for many, love involves other people.

Pat Mora has set out to create a collection of poems capturing the elements of love in its different stages: the initial excitement, the hurt and pain, the healing, and the loving again. These experiences are described through everyday peopl...more

Thoughts of love and relationships occupy the majority of a teenager’s time, and in this collection of poems about love, Mora describes the feelings of love teens have for family, friends, sports, and a boyfriend or girlfriend. Although most of the poems are written in free verse, some poems are sonnets, haikus, acrostics, and even a clerihew. While the poems are written for entertainment purposes, on the page opposite the poem, there is a brief explanation of the poem’s style for an interested ...more

I read this to vote for Beehive Nominees for next year... at least I think that's what it's for. Because we already had the Beehive Awards for this year so I don't know why they'd be doing Beehive Awards. I picked this up because of how short it is. You see, you get a free book after reading 4 of them (luckily not six) and so my strategy was choose the ones you can read in under an hour.

Now, I'm not a fan of poetry so I already wasn't in love with this. Plus, "Poems about Love"...more

According to author Pat Mora, "Dizzy in Your Eyes: Poems about Love" is written in four parts or a "love cycle". The poems start with love's initial rush and confusion, then delve into love's heartaches and sadness, then explore the slow process of healing; and finally move back to falling in love again. The poems are written in various poetic styles and told from the adolescent vantage point. All teens should be able to recognize their own struggles and joys in these poem...more

As teen love goes, as Mora suggests, it's "the intensity of teen years" that captured her attention and willed her to write these love poems. Together as a whole it's uninspiring, but yet, the book can be a great teaching tool for any ELA teacher during a poetry unit.

The string of poems are written in different forms and before each form she states and defines the form, then the example is the poem. The form and definition don't detract from the poetry since each poem is o...more

I was lucky to snag a copy of this book from Random Buzzers a few months ago. Until now I had a chance to read it and I think it was meant to be read by me now. These poems are just beautiful! While reading them I felt a smile grow upon my face, I felt goosebumps, I remembered things, and I wanted to cry.

Pat Mora has done a fantastic job writing these poems about love, the way a teenager experiences it. Whether it's romantic love, friendship love, or family love. The one poem that I ca...more

I enjoyed this book of poetry from the very first. The first poem is about trying to write an email but being unable to do anything except type the loved one's name. I felt this way about my husband back when we were dating. I think you could find at least one love poem in here that speaks to you! The poems are not just about romantic love which is nice as well as the different stages of love.

I thought this was going to be a series of stories in poetry form for YA audience, but instead it was a collection of poems written by Mora pretending to be a teen or something like that(?)I guess it was supposed to be teen perspectives on different types of love but it just didn't work for me. I fell asleep twice during the lunch hour it took for me to read it.

I really liked some of the poems in this book, some were just OK. The cool thing about this book was that it explained the style that some of the poems were written in (and they weren't just your average, boring "Found" Poem but REAL ones like tanka, pantoum, villanelle)

I love this quote: "Everything's in love. Birds, butterflies, and now me, dizzy in your eyes." p. 123. The poems cover all the stages of love, from first crush to the devastation of lost love.

I love this collection of love poems! Love between sisters, new romantic love, old love between old people. I think too often we forget love isn't just that romantic stiff, it's the cement of all our relationships.

Creative poetry, and she captures a lot of the emotions that young adults go through about love. Not much continuity between the poems, but good work, Ms. Mora. Quite creative.

Some of these poems are fantastic! They speak of love in all it's forms, not just the teenaged angsty kind. The poem about her mother and grandmother made me cry.
