Oh dear lord this book was bad.
If you want character development, an interesting plot or something that doesn't kill off your brain cells one by one - then My so called afterlife is not for you.
The story's only redeeming quality would have to be it's humour although this is really overdone. The main character, Lucy, was annoying from the start, and you get to learn next to nothing about the rest of the cast. Some may call this a murder mystery - oh no it's not intelligent enough for that, in fac...more

My So Called Afterlife is one of those books that I would have totally loved if I'd been a few years younger, or hadn't been reading so many deep, involved young adult supernatural books but because I'd just finished a long, dark book this one seemed a little shallow to me.

That's not to say that I didn't thoroughly enjoy the read - it was fun and sweet and while it isn't really on-the-edge-of-your-seat reading, it is also quite short and that...more

I was really, really eager to read this book and I eventually found it. It did not disappoint! I loved it. It is not a dark novel, it is a mixture of different genres drawn into one. Romance, humour, and thrilling events.

Lucy Shaw is a fifteen year-old girl murdered six months ago. I loved Lucy, she was probably my favourite charcter. I loved her sarcasm and some parts really make you lol! The afterlife is very similar to reallife, even ghost mobile phones. When you turn into a ghost, your home...more

Lucy ha muerto. Ha muerto asesinada. Asesinada en los baños de un restaurante. Los baños son los masculinos. Y ahí mismo conoce a Jeremy.

Y la...more

“I knew it was time to move on when a tramp peed on my Uggs…” AND I knew I had to read this book after that line.

My So-Called Afterlife and the subsequent books My So-Called Haunting & My So-Called Phantom Lover are a fun read with Lucy providing a wonderful narration in book 1 and Skye continuing in book 2 & 3. I read all three books in one go, one per night and I wasn’t disappointed.

In the series My So-Called Afterlife is the strongest. Lucy is perfectly captured; she is flawed, annoyi...more

A refreshing read featuring ghosts! Just what I needed. After all the paranormal suspense I have been reading, I wanted a good lighthearted read with the paranormal included in it. Ever wonder if a ghost can fall in love? Yep. Ever wonder if they watch you? Yep. Ever want to meet one? Yep!! Well, in this book, we get to meet Lucy who was murdered in a men's restroom. EWW. Well, that is her thoughts too! She spends her time counting the tiles in the bathroom and wishing someone would see her. Fi...more

My So-Called Afterlife is a great debut novel, with lots of humour, gorgeous ghosts and a murder mystery to keep you guessing. It has one of the funniest opening lines I've encountered, and more than its fair share of quippy, fast-talking dead people.

Lucy's stint in the men's toilets where she was murdered is hilarious, and I don't want to think of the sights she must have seen there. Luckily she does manage to leave that hellish place, and embarks on a journey through the streets of London. I w...more

I found this book quite likeable and it was a nice read. Lucy is slightly annoying at first, but she has a good heart and the story has such a sweet ending. When Tamsyn Murray came to speak at my school, I wasn't sure what to expect of her or the afterlife series as I'd never heard of either before, but both are very interesting. I've never read any supernatural or ghosty stories before because it isn't usually my thing, but I enjoyed My So Called Afterlife because of all the other themes weaved...more

Tamsyn Murray’s My So-Called Afterlife is a sharp, funny and moving debut that kept me smiling throughout.

Our heroine, Lucy Shaw, is one hell of a girl. Even after being brutally murdered and being entrapped in the men’s public toilets on Carnaby Street for six moths, she still retained her spirit. Lucy is sparky, sarcastic and brilliantly funny in her observations and one-liners. Though I’d love to be her friend, I don’t think I’d want to be haunted by her. She talks too much!

There is nothing I like about this book.

I started to read it because it sounded funny; a teenage ghost stuck to a mens bathroom and the sarcastic jokes made me lone it and take it home. But my enthusiasm and hopes for the book left me not much longer after I began reading it. Lucy is the most annoying character that I have ever read. She isn't just really sarcastic and ironic, she is mean, not funny, so immature, ungrateful for the people helping her, and unwilling to do things that would actual...more

"My patience was wearing thinner than a pole-dancer's thong."

If you like the above kind of humour (like me), then this book is for you. (To be honest, the only reason I btohered to write a quick review for this book was to slip that quote in--because I love it so much. I'm sad, I know.)

Lucy, the protagonist, is lovely and frank and snarky; just how I like 'em to be. Jeremy is lovely; I have this geeky crush on him, like a schoolgirl writing love doodles over her geography teacher. Ryan did nothi...more

Excellent YA - hits all the right spots. Tamsyn Murray writes prose so cleanly and effortlessly that reading is a sheer delight.

Finally finished it, thank god!
I HATE this Lucy girl! She is dead but she does care about is her uggs
Further more this book is very (too) similar to ghostgirl...
If i were in school together with Lucy, she'd never ever be my friend. NEVER!!!
also, this boy, whos name i've already forgotten (15 minutes after reading! Lookin for his name
Ok so his name is.Ryan...
He is the most stupid boy on earth! He seriously knows nothing abt a girl and he falls in love with

The book was funny troughout and exciting towards the end, but it lacked some depth to my taste. Especially in the love department: girl meets boy and wham they're in love. I like the Bella-Edward Cullen kind of romance better: where they long to be together but can't, and meet lots of obstacles before they can finally be a couple. Now, if the ghost had fallen in love with a human boy, that would have been something.
Other than that I liked it, and the humor kind of reminded me of Sophie Kinsella...more

Die 15-jährige Lucy betrachte...more

Review: Lucy was murdered in a toilet and is now a ghost. Not the most fun position for teenage girl to be in, especially as no-one can hear her and its pretty boring. And then Jeremy comes in, can see and hear her, and wants to help her solve her murder. She meets lots of ghosts, like stuck up Kimberly, was-suicidal Hep and dreamboat Ryan. Jeremy then says that she needs to track down her killer, something Lucy isn’t particularly keen on. However she does, which is the basis of the book.

No, you are not suffering from déjà-vu, I have just reviewed Tamsyn Murray's book for younger readers about Harriet Houdini the Stunt Bunny, and I loved it so much that I immediately picked up Tamsyn's debut YA novel!

Needless to say that, yet again, I have looked like a crazy person laughing out loud on the tube... I love this book!

What I love the most is that Tamsyn Murray takes a situation - the ghost of a girl brutally murdered in a toilet on Carnaby Street - and creates a very unexpected sto...more

This book was a fantastic debut that had me smiling everytime I thought about it. It made me laugh out loud, fall off the bed, and had me hooked from the very first sentence, "I knew it was time to move on when a tramp peed on my Uggs.." Seriously! This line definitely wins the 'Line of The Year Award'. If there was one! It's short, sweet, and cute, perfect first line!

Fifteen year-old Lucy Shaw is stuck as a ghost, haunting Carnaby Street's public (men's) toilets after being (quite brutally) mur...more

I found this a really fun, quick read. Although it does have some dark moments it’s mostly a very light and humorous read. I really loved the characters and the ‘afterlife’ world was brilliantly created – so many small details were added to make it feel really believable. I really liked Lucy – really sassy and witty - and her relationship with Jeremy was so sweet. I really enjoyed their friendship and the way she completely takes over his life (and TV!) Her budding friendship and later ‘interven...more

i liked this book alot, A top 5 !!! i wish Lucy didnt have to go into the "light", she was the joker, lover, teenage girl of this story and her character just slotted in Amazingly, Although i wouldnt change the book, Lucy deserved Ryan, and i thought that the Ghost Lover story was great. Lucy's best friend had a heart breaking, revenge wanter, character and made me unable to let go of the book. Over all, thats why i gave it a top 5 !!! :)

I liked the book, but it was a bit cliché, I think. Ryan fell in love with Lucy after only one conversation and the Celestine/Jeremy storyline was a bit forced, I think. But overall, it was a nice book. I enjoyed reading it. It was funny, lighthearted and quite nice. The Hepzibah storyline was my favourite, though.

This is the first of the 'Afterlife' books by Tamsyn Murray. I really enjoyed this one. It is aimed I think at the younger YA market but as an adult YA fan I still found it extremely readable and fun.

The heroine Lucy really draws you in and is a very believable character. The pace is very fast and keeps you reading - I read it over 2 evenings and I'm not a particularly fast reader! Would recommend.

This book was really fun to read and how interesting! I love stories of this type, however I could have done without the romantic aspect. I guess it's necessary with the main character being a teenager. I loved it, and have already loaned it to someone else to enjoy.

A really good book. I am into all of that- spirits, ghosts (just not vampires). This book really gave me some great new insights into the afterlife. For anyone with a vivid imagination or looking to open their eyes to the world around them, this is the book for them.
