Andy McDermott- The Secret Vault (Bantam Books 2011) 3.5 Stars
When precious art begins to go missing from around the world, security is beefed up around the newly discovered Talonor Codex. Nina Wilde had discovered this journal when she found Atlantis. A gutsy robbery attempt begins Nina and Eddie’s race against the clock as they try to find the clues in the Codex that will lead to the mythical Vault of Shiva, before the villain does. As an ancient faith is twisted to suit someone’s needs, Nina More...

Probably the best writer in his genre.....
But not his best book, The pace is there the quality is there, but there is just a small amount of it being forced for me in this book, a myth too far maybe?
Im sure there are loads of myths and problems left in the world for our Duo to resolve, but this didnt seem like their best effort.
That said they are aging and they are suffering with problems..Ole Deffo (Eddie Chase) being the main addition in this one. But i also feel that given their exploits Andy More...

well, after (re)discovering atlantis, locating hercules's tomb, unearthing the pyramid of osiris, visiting the garden of eden, pulling out arthur's sword etc. what do our heroes (still have to) do? [btw if i were these ppl i would choose labours of hercules instead. won't u give these blokes a well deserved break andy?]. locate (sigh! word reuse... hmmm... let it be "open" then) shiva's valut (hey! is the tile not "the sacred vault"? someone had the bright idea that we indians may be sold on the More...

The Sacred Vault, the sixth book from Andy McDermott, is a veritable barnstormer of a novel. The book is jam packed with adventure, murder and archaeological discovery and a pace Usain Bolt would envy, is a sure fire hit.
My first introduction to Eddie Chase (ex SAS) and Nina Wilde, The Sacred Vault is your typical “boys own” novel. The action doesn’t let up from start to finish and together with cheesy humour I loved every minute! Very easy to read I found it hard to put it down, and only then t More...

I picked this one up wondering what new earthshaking ‘secret’ would Mr. Mc Dermott reveal about a religion and a culture that I have grown up with. The genre of historical fiction has never ceased to excite me since I read The Da Vinci Code. Delving into the past, unearthing artefacts and relics (even if imagined) and exploring possibilities different from commonly held historical accounts is quite exhilarating. The depth of research done by the author adds to the fun as it does to knowledge. In More...

I actually read this one before reading any of Andy McDermott's earlier books - mainly because I found it on sale somewhere and thought...what the hey? But I immediately fell in love with Eddie Chase and Nina Wilde. It started out a tad slow with a social event but then Eddie was chasing after a bunch of bad guys within a dozen or so pages. The words that best describe McDermott's books are action-packed, improbable, thrilling, and a good laugh. The characters of Eddie and Nina are the kind of f More...

Hunting down the lost, sacred Vault of Shiva is no easy task, but one that Nina and Eddie are more than up for.
Once again, ego maniacal multi billionaires (you think the world would be running out of these by now the way Nina and Eddie go through them...) are hunting down the vault for themselves to start their very own Armageddon, and do everything they can to stop our dynamic duo.
Fortunately this time the pattern is broken and no one betrays them, but they do still lose someone in their travel More...

The Sacred Vault is a fun, relaxing read full of adventure and action. Mr. McDermott shows off his researching skills with all the information included about internet, computers, art, Indian culture and religion. I enjoyed the fast-paced action, characters, and of course, Eddie’s snarky dialogue. While the plot is not overly complex, The Sacred Vault is a roller coaster ride of death-defying action. This is a good rainy-day or travel book. Enjoy!

I still am 100% for this series.
I say that because I sense that some fans are probably dropping off a bit, both from reviews I've seen here and the fact that it's the 6th book in a series which usually leads to a decrease in popularity or quality. Well, I disagree. I think this is just as good as the first and is still extremely fast paced and fun.
My only complaint was that the villain was SO obvious that I could tell who the main villain was the moment they walked into the story. But then I re More...

My Review: It has been almost forever since I read an adventure-action-thriller type of book. I picked it up at the airport on my way back from India earlier this year. This is the first book of the series that I have read and I have to say, I am looking for the other titles to read now.
What surprised me was that they had different titles for the book in India and for the rest of the world – I am guessing the Indian title would have done well for everywhere else too (the title outside India is ‘ More...

Australia has Matthew Reilly. The US has Clive Cussler and James Rollins. The UK has Andy McDermott.
The Sacred Vault is Andy's sixth Nina and Eddie adventure and they just keep the adrenalin pumping as much as ever. I've met archaeologists, they make soil scientists seem exciting by comparison. Yet the world has more archaeologist adventurers than any other science: Indiana Jones, Jack West Jnr, Dirk Pitt, Nina and Eddie, the list goes on. But who can blame writers for picking archaeologists ove More...

Non-stop action in the Indiana Jones vein. Archaeologist Nina Wilde and her husband Eddie Chase must thwart an evil Indian billionaire who wants to destroy civilization - with the help of the contents of Shiva's vault - avoid the assassination of several heads of state, recover many of the world's most valuable artifacts and stay alive. Flame throwers, rockets, stealth planes, helicopters and ancient gliders abound. The number of near misses strains credulity, but this is a good beach read.

andy mcdermott is a an expertise when it comes to fantasy story telling, was sort of indiana jones kind.
the amount of research work which had gone through the process of the book was jaw dropping.
due to the indian accent of the plot i was able to connect myself to the story.
simply it was a good read which deserves a over looking of the flaws.

This is the 6th book in the Nina Wilde series and was a bit different than the 1st 5. This time instead of searcing for some long lost treasure or artifact, Nina & her husband try to stop a mad billionaire from destroying the world. Of course it had the usual long chase and fight scenes that are typical for this series. There are also some descriptive scenes where various characters get injured or killed - not for the faint-of-heart. All-in-all a good easy read.

Finished reading Andy Mcdermott's The Sacred Vault. The ongoing series adventures of Nina Wilde & Eddie Chase. This time round their discovery takes them to the secret vault of Shiva where the great teachings are kept. Great read and the adventures just keeps on getting better. Cant wait for more adventures from the great duo. :)

Finally. A great South-Asian treasure hunt. (I'm a bit overwhelmed with Egyptian and South American Maya/Inca stories.) This one was awesome, and got me to look into parts of history I was unfamiliar with.
My reviews for McDermott's Chase/Wilde books are going to pretty much the same: Alluded secret, hunt, people who want to use secret for something bad, fight, capture, hooray secret!

Exactly what I've come to expect from this series. The best action scenes out there, some truly excruciating puns, and a wonderful relationship between Eddie Wilde and Nina Chase. I ripped through this in about three protracted sittings and loved every moment. Looking forward to the next one.

After Atlantis (book1), Hercules Tomb (book2), Excalibur (book3), Eden (book4) and Osiris Tomb (book 5), McDermott uses the myth/legend of Shiva's Vault as a base for his 6th opus.
Action, humour, archeology and adventure, I wonder why there's no adaption of them on the big screen or even on tv yet. :)

It was a good action book without too much drawn out detail so it flowed fast. I'm not too keen on reading the "F" word in books, so that put me off a bit. I didn't get a good connection with the two main characters (especially Eddie) which I thought was a bit weird as usually I do.

These books are entertaining but you have to take them for what they are. The situations the characters get in are so over the top and the methods used to get them out of trouble are equally so.
Good throw away beach novel you probably would never read twice.

I'll be kind. This is not at all my kind of book. My elementary-school age children got it for me as a Christmas gift. Surprise! Anyway, the book receives one star on its merits, and a second star for how happy it made my kids to see me reading it.

Yes, its more of the same but it really doesnt matter because McDermott writes so entertaining and he doesnt take his stories or characters very seriously and they are so much better for it. One of the better in the series. On to the next one!

i remember people from school who would read action thrillers or whatever genre this and i tried then also. never could like it except for dan brown's da vinci code. i saw this and thought that i should pick this since i might be missing out on an entire genre otherwise. but i dont think i will ever be ready to appreciate this genre and so as a natural consequence i just could not like this book or the story at all.

Nt as good as the next one, but still an interesting and explosive trip through the Himalayas and India while Nina and Eddie try to find the ancient Shiva-Veda's (writings) before yet another doomsday apocalyptic group do...

I love these characters and the relationship they have. The only thing I find tedious are the action scenes, too drawn out so I find myself skipping pages without missing any gist of the story

I found this book quite entertaining. This is a husband and wife version of Indiana Jones and the action is non-stop. I hadn't read the previous books in the series but I will be soon.

Reading first book of Andy McDermott. It would have been a great read if the author had cut short the story to 400 pages. Too much of action and description. Still its a good read.

This was an okay book.. He has written better.. Like his other novels, which I enjoyed reading, I take the story for what it's worth, and enjoy the adventure tale..

THIS NOVEL LIKE THE ONES BEFORE, IS FULL OF ACTION, MYSTERY, SUSPENSE AND ALL THE ELEMENTS THAT MAKES A GOOD ADVENTURE NOVEL WORTH READING. TWO THUMBS UP!

Blended some of the Shiva Mythos into the story line and kept the quest to find the secret vault hidden in plain sight interesting. Other than that it was pretty much the same plot line as similar works of fiction like Clive Cussler.
