Andy McDermott- The Secret Vault (Bantam Books 2011) 3.5 Stars

When precious art begins to go missing from around the world, security is beefed up around the newly discovered Talonor Codex. Nina Wilde had discovered this journal when she found Atlantis. A gutsy robbery attempt begins Nina and Eddie’s race against the clock as they try to find the clues in the Codex that will lead to the mythical Vault of Shiva, before the villain does. As an ancient faith is twisted to suit someone’s More...

The Sacred Vault, the sixth book from Andy McDermott, is a veritable barnstormer of a novel. The book is jam packed with adventure, murder and archaeological discovery and a pace Usain Bolt would envy, is a sure fire hit.

My first introduction to Eddie Chase (ex SAS) and Nina Wilde, The Sacred Vault is your typical “boys own” novel. The action doesn’t let up from start to finish and together with cheesy humour I loved every minute! Very easy to read I found it hard to put it down, and o More...

I actually read this one before reading any of Andy McDermott's earlier books - mainly because I found it on sale somewhere and thought...what the hey? But I immediately fell in love with Eddie Chase and Nina Wilde. It started out a tad slow with a social event but then Eddie was chasing after a bunch of bad guys within a dozen or so pages. The words that best describe McDermott's books are action-packed, improbable, thrilling, and a good laugh. The characters of Eddie and Nina are the kind o More...

Hunting down the lost, sacred Vault of Shiva is no easy task, but one that Nina and Eddie are more than up for.

Once again, ego maniacal multi billionaires (you think the world would be running out of these by now the way Nina and Eddie go through them...) are hunting down the vault for themselves to start their very own Armageddon, and do everything they can to stop our dynamic duo.

Fortunately this time the pattern is broken and no one betrays them, but they do still lose More...

I still am 100% for this series.

I say that because I sense that some fans are probably dropping off a bit, both from reviews I've seen here and the fact that it's the 6th book in a series which usually leads to a decrease in popularity or quality. Well, I disagree. I think this is just as good as the first and is still extremely fast paced and fun.

My only complaint was that the villain was SO obvious that I could tell who the main villain was the moment they walked into the More...

Australia has Matthew Reilly. The US has Clive Cussler and James Rollins. The UK has Andy McDermott.

The Sacred Vault is Andy's sixth Nina and Eddie adventure and they just keep the adrenalin pumping as much as ever. I've met archaeologists, they make soil scientists seem exciting by comparison. Yet the world has more archaeologist adventurers than any other science: Indiana Jones, Jack West Jnr, Dirk Pitt, Nina and Eddie, the list goes on. But who can blame writers for picking archae More...

andy mcdermott is a an expertise when it comes to fantasy story telling, was sort of indiana jones kind.
the amount of research work which had gone through the process of the book was jaw dropping.

due to the indian accent of the plot i was able to connect myself to the story.

simply it was a good read which deserves a over looking of the flaws.

Finally. A great South-Asian treasure hunt. (I'm a bit overwhelmed with Egyptian and South American Maya/Inca stories.) This one was awesome, and got me to look into parts of history I was unfamiliar with.

My reviews for McDermott's Chase/Wilde books are going to pretty much the same: Alluded secret, hunt, people who want to use secret for something bad, fight, capture, hooray secret!

After Atlantis (book1), Hercules Tomb (book2), Excalibur (book3), Eden (book4) and Osiris Tomb (book 5), McDermott uses the myth/legend of Shiva's Vault as a base for his 6th opus.
Action, humour, archeology and adventure, I wonder why there's no adaption of them on the big screen or even on tv yet. :)

It was a good action book without too much drawn out detail so it flowed fast. I'm not too keen on reading the "F" word in books, so that put me off a bit. I didn't get a good connection with the two main characters (especially Eddie) which I thought was a bit weird as usually I do.

These books are entertaining but you have to take them for what they are. The situations the characters get in are so over the top and the methods used to get them out of trouble are equally so.

Good throw away beach novel you probably would never read twice.

I'll be kind. This is not at all my kind of book. My elementary-school age children got it for me as a Christmas gift. Surprise! Anyway, the book receives one star on its merits, and a second star for how happy it made my kids to see me reading it.

Yes, its more of the same but it really doesnt matter because McDermott writes so entertaining and he doesnt take his stories or characters very seriously and they are so much better for it. One of the better in the series. On to the next one!

I found this book quite entertaining. This is a husband and wife version of Indiana Jones and the action is non-stop. I hadn't read the previous books in the series but I will be soon.

Reading first book of Andy McDermott. It would have been a great read if the author had cut short the story to 400 pages. Too much of action and description. Still its a good read.

These books are a good quick read with plenty of excitement. Following Nina and Eddie around the world exploring archeological wonders and saving the world from destruction at the same time is cool.

Even though I'm a fan of the history/archeology/thrill-genre, this one didn't do it for me. The story was too flimsy and the action sequences too long and fairly gory. The characters weren't well developed, the dialogue was trite.

Its a thriller but Andy McDermott is kinda getting drab now with the usual kind of end of world using some unbelievable ancient artefact plot, the character is becoming stale. He definitely needs to think about putting freshness into his stories rather than keep churning out same old fare everytime!!

If I were to review this book as a stand-alone novel, rather then part of a whole series- I'd have to say I would give it at least four stars.

But as part of a seires... well. Everything just seemn a little repetitive.

1. Everything is happy
2. Evil billionare tries to destroy/take over the world
3. Nina/Eddie somehow get involved
4. World is saved

After 6 books, it's starting to seem a little far fetched. Once or twice, maybe. But SIX TIMES? Come More...
