Well, this is the fifth book I've read by Denise Hildreth and I did really like it. This is not meant to be a literary masterpiece. Its meant to be a book that uses Rose, the main character, to look at your life and see where you may have taken a turn you didn't expect or a road you didn't want to be on. I think it also demonstrates how people you meet along the way can say/do something that will affect you later. That being said, this book does not have the same quirky humor as the three Savann...more
I had no idea what sort of book I was reading...until I read some of the reviews on Goodreads! I bought the book because it sounded interesting and the title caught my attention. If you're not from the South..you may not understand the love of boiled peanuts and ice cold Coke and a few of the other referrals might not be fully understood. Even with feeling like I've personally spent the past day in the car with Rose...this was a good book! It hit some soft spots with me and I'll admit...a few te...more
Maybe a year ago I might have loved this book. It just didn't hold my interest. I guess my reading tastes have changed and I now demand more from a book than just a light read. I couldn't get past the first 60 pages, figure out what the story was about, where it was going and couldn't care less. The going back and forth in time as a plot device was annoying. I don't think that I will be reading any of this author's other books.
Typical Christian fiction for women--okay plot, somewhat flat characters, good morals. Someday I hope to find Christian fiction with interesting characters, plot, and just a regular setting--i.e. not a suspense novel (Dekker and Peretti are great at the suspense ones). I might try another of Hildreth's books since so many people say this one is not as good as the others.

It was an ok book. I don't think it is one I'd pick out on my own. My mom suggested I read it. Most of the book was a bit depressing, considering how Rose's life was going. The ending was good though, when she repented of her sins and accepted the light of Jesus Christ into her life again. When she let go of her hate and relized what would really make her happy in this life. It was a fast book to read.
This was an interesting book for several reasons. A majority of the book occurs over the course of a road trip (with many 'flashbacks' interspersed). I think it showed how a person can turn into something they don't want to be because they lose the focus of their life. It also shows how a person can forget them self and allow things to happen in their life they wouldn't have otherwise. What I like the most about this novel was the role that religion played. It is clear that this woman is experie...more

My sister-in-law loaned this one to me, and I threw it in my bag when I was looking for a book to take to the beach. Loved it. I didn't even realize until I started reading it that it was by the same author as Savannah From Savannah which I also loved. This is a great read for any southern girl.
This was my first book by Denise Hildreth but it won't be my last. What a wonderful book about trying to run from our past. After reading this book, I heard the song and it will be stuck in my head forever. Our main character has moved away from the south, they don't say why in the beginning so I won't ruin it for anyone else, but if you love southern writing you will love this book.

Very Good - quick read
This book is about going home again. I get so easily sidetracked with portions of books that I forget what it's like to just enjoy every moment I'm reading. This book was one (along with ALL of Denise Hildrith's books) that I just could not put down. From her high-powered DC present to the memories she reflects on as she travels back home, to a place much slower than here. Tears were in my eyes as the book ended and my recommendation is to read it if you get a chance.
I bought the book because I liked the previous works of Hildreth but for some reason could just never bring myself to read the book. Out of desperation one night because I couldn't sleep I started reading the book. Once I started reading, the more I read the better it got. It might have a slow start but it gets better. Definitely worth the time to read!
This book is a good example of why I should not read books that I don't know much about. I got this at the library because I thought the cover looked cool. I don't know if it's because I didn't grow up in the South, I've never had an affair or had any desire to work in politics, but I did not get this book.
