I thoroughly enjoyed this book; found it hard to put down for too long. Wonderful characters, spy stuff, high-tech thievery that reminded me of the movie Entrapment with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sean Connery. The 7-level maze they had to break through in Africa was very imaginative. This author has a brilliant style all to her own with colorful expressions that had This Reader laughing throughout the book. The setting was all over the globe (Switzerland, Houston, Africa...).

Very good -- about my favorite things - diamonds!! Exciting and full of action -- last few I read were boring, so this was exceptional.

The editing, or supreme lack of in this case, in this book drove me absolutely crazy. For example, there was one section where it was just before dawn, then three hours later (the three hours was specifically referenced as the number of hours that had passed) it was late at night. There were also times when characters' names were mixed up and you couldn't tell who was supposed to be talking or listening or even there in the room. I wanted to like this book more than I actually did. A lot of the expected elements are there for a romantic suspense novel: Alpha male, interesting female, intense situation, and loads of sexual chemistry. But for me, the problems started with the writing style. It felt sort of disjointed and I couldn't follow some of the action scenes. And Hunt's voice in those intense moments felt like it was a lot of telling rather than showing. There was something forced about it.

Huntington St John, aka Hunt - out to stop Mano de Dios - a religious terrorist group... they have a weapon of mass destruction, and T-FLAC has been tipped off that discs in the safe can be found...

And Taylor robs said safe (of course the safe guaranteed not to be able to be broken into) - unknowingly ...moreTaylor Kincaid - jewel theif extrodinaire, adreniline junkie - we don't learn until midway that she retrieves stolen jewels for insurance companies. and she is the best...

Huntington St John, aka Hunt - out to stop Mano de Dios - a religious terrorist group... they have a weapon of mass destruction, and T-FLAC has been tipped off that discs in the safe can be found...

And Taylor robs said safe (of course the safe guaranteed not to be able to be broken into) - unknowingly carrying off 5 discs along with the jewels. to confuse things, the black rose terrorist group wants those discs and cause Laura to be arrested as soo as she returns to their hotel... she had mailed the safe contents to Switzerland before she returned to the hotel.

Hunt breaks her out of jail (after 5 failed attempts in the 3 hours it took Hunt to get it together)... he takes her to a safe house, and in spite of his attraction for her, does his best to intimidate the information out of her... she is temporarily blinded because of head trauma in the jail... but she doesn't tell him anything - in spite of her attraction to him... and when he falls asleep, she slips out of the handcuffs (yeah, what was he thinking - she had freed herself of multiple chains & locks in the jail when he found her), and hits him over the head with the lamp to knock him out... and escapes...

It takes them 2 months to track her down again... and this time, bit by bit they come to trust one another... he tells her who he works for and why they want the disks... and though they had sex on the plane on the way to Zurich, when they get to the vault, she palms 2 of the 5 disks as insurance - in case they aren't the good guys. but then their car is gassed, and when they wake up 3 hours later, the 3 disks are gon... she takes Hunt and his team to her condo, more sex, more talk... and then when she realizes what the disks represent, she turns them over...

Mano de Dios believes God wants him to destroy evil Las Vegas - with a missle hidden underground behind 7 locks, with each lock/environment varied to represent the 7 levels of Dante's inferno... they have codes for 2 locks... and need Taylor to help them negotiate the locks...

They make their way down, bit by bit, knowing when they get there, the Manos will attack... Hunt & Taylor both come to realize they love each other, though both never thought they would love anyone... at the last lock on the missle, Taylor is sprayed with a chemical that makes her unconsious... Hunt rushes her to rescue, and they fix her... and they finally admit their love for one another... (less)

Morales, a man who believes that anyone who disagrees with his beliefs deserves to die, has been amassing jewels, art, and weapons in an underground mine for years. Hunt, assigned to find out when Morales attends to strike the world's population, needs to open the top-of-the-line safe in his domain to gather the computer disks that are there-he's sure that those disks hold all of the information he needs to deter Morales and his mission. The problem is that he needs someone who can open the supposedly uncrackable safe, and there's only one person who can do that-Taylor Kincaid, a jewel thief and safe cracker who is thought to be the best in the world.

Unfortunately, before Hunt can reach Taylor and plead for her assistance, Taylor is arrested in San Cristobel for breaking into the home of-you guessed it-Jose Morales. Now Hunt believes he has the ultimate power chip to get Taylor to help him-he'll bail her out of jail if she gives him the computer disks that she stole. Taylor , of course, plays dumb, assuring Hunt that she has no idea what he's talking about. But when Morales's henchmen come to pay her a visit, Taylor has second thoughts on holding out on Hunt. After all, the man with the power and resources of T-FLAC behind him might be the only person who can keep her alive long enough to bring down the terrorist.

Ms. Adair has penned another sexually charged winner. The action-adventure part of the story is top-notch, with believable characters and situations that will have you rooting for the good guys and crying for the downfall of Morales and his men. The sexual chemistry between Hunt and Taylor isn't necessarily instantaneous, but it's an integral part of the story. Neither one of them is sure that they can truly trust the other, and the situations they find themselves in only add to the age-old idiom of whether they really love each other or are just responding to the danger around them.

I did miss seeing the Wright brothers in HOT ICE, the operatives from the previous T-FLAC stories, but Hunter St. John is an intriguing and sexy new hero, and his alternate aloofness and genuine caring made for an intriguing story. Taylor is a woman that reminds you of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider or a non-vampire-fighting Buffy, and her slow nature of trusting added depth and emotion to the storyline. All in all, HOT ICE is definitely a book to pick up-you won't be disappointed!(less)

Taylor is the world’s best thief. She gets the better of Hunt a couple of times, so I cheer her on. Amanda is her sister who has Down syndrome. Taylor has been looking after her for years. I enjoyed seeing Taylor’s sensible nature amble easily throughout the book. She was a good mix of strong heroine and vulnerability. It was fun to see her love for locks and jewels.

Huntington St. John saves Taylor Kincaid from the San Cristobal Jail after she breaks into the notorious Jose Morales safe and steals everything in it. Hunt a T-Flac Agent had been looking for a jewel thief who could crack the safe and could get the disks that were in the safe. But since Taylor had already done this he just had to talk her into telling him were she had stash the disks.

I'm a sucker for stories with smart independent female theives. It's basically the main reason why I read it. The other reason being the idea of the story; it's interesting enough for me to continue reading despite the poor writing style. There was too much confusion going on. After finishing the book I realized that this was a series so I had wondered for a bit if my confusion throughout many parts of the book was because of this... but I doubt that's really the case. This book made me think about the movie "Entrapment" a little bit in the way of the plot, when I first started reading but then it went on it's own course and came into it's own nicely. Fun, flirty, adventure and romance - with of course a jewelry obssesion, what girl can't relate to our heroine?!

Hmm I'm not too fond of strong females so I never really warmed to the heroine of this story. On the other hand, it did have a lot of suspense, especially at the end, which made the book an entertaining read after all.
