WALKING DEAD. (1977). Peter Dickinson. ***1/2.
Dickinson provides us with a thriller set on islands in the Caribbean, where his protagonist, Dr. David Foxe is sent to complete a scientific study and, at the same time, get a well-deserved rest after completing a project early in England. When he arrives, he discovers that the previous work done on the project was essentially meaningless, and he had to set up his rat subjects all over again so that he could gain some useful data. A thought provoking book. Set on a Caribbean island: A scientist is drawn, against his will, into working for a dictator. At first the scientist is quite unappealing but as the story progresses we get under his skin and start understanding him and sympathising with him. This book explores issues such as superstition vs science, the ethics of experimenting on living beings, and the different ways that "goodness" can manifest.

Peter Malcolm de Brissac Dickinson OBE FRSL (born 16 December 1927) was a prolific English author and poet, best known for children's books and detective stories.
