I was more pleased by this one than its predecessor (the third victim which I found highly predictable but still enjoying enough). I must admit at one point I did get annoyed and thought it was going down the predictable route but I still had my suspicions that all was not as it seemed. Thankfully the author didn't pretend to mask this fact and had the characters feel the same instantly. Nothing worse than a wrong twist that is presented as the 'genuine' ending when we all know it is not.

If I had to pick a favorite of Lisa Gardner's books, this would be my pick. The characters of Pierce Quincy (from "The Perfect Husband" and "The Third Victim") and Ranie Connor (from "The Third Victim") return to solve the death of Quincy's oldest daughter, Amanda. A car accident left her on life support, which his ex-wife has finally agreed to turn off. Quincy has a nagging feeling that Amanda's accident wasn't so accidental... so he hires Ranie to help uncover the

I am not sure how I feel about this book. The graphic violence in it was shocking and depressing and gave the whole story a dark feel, which it never quite overcame. I kept reading because I really wanted to find out what was going on, to solve the mystery. I was disappointed when the villain is finally revealed, because it didn't make sense to me. The bad guy's behaviors were so out of proportion to the offense he felt the main character had perpetrated upon him. It just seemed too implausibl

Just started reading. So far, the childish arguing between Pierce and Rainie is getting on my nerves.
Getting to half-way point - jeez, these characters are ANNOYING!! I'm staying with it because the mystery is intriguing. At least the glimpses we get between all the arguing and hand-wringing.
Finshed book last night.
The good: interesting plot, although figured the perp early in the book.
Not so good: Really irritating characters. These people cannot say "hello" More...

I really enjoy reading Lisa Gardner for pleasure. Her stories are always interesting, fast paced and even though they are somewhat predictable, they make you want to stick with the story just to make sure you were right. This book had a good suspenseful plot but the best part for me was the character development because we finally get to see a softer, more vulnerable side of Quincy instead of the man in the suit. I am also a big fan of Rainie, and was glad to see her take the "heroine"

Someone is apparently killing off the members of one family, posing as a different individual each time and taking as much or as little time as possible to do so. Attention focuses on Pierce Quincy's work as an FBI agent and all those who might wish to harm him, but the killer turns out to be someone Quincy testified against before becoming an FBI agent. Someone who should lose custody of his children, and who took revenge 15 years later.

SUMMER READING CLUB: "Fast-paced, well written story of a killer who targets the family of FBI agent Pierce Quincy. From the beginning fatal "accident" of his daughter to the last page I was caught up in this story. The lengths the killer goes to befriend the family make this book a page turner. Filled with romance, interesting characters, and an oh-wow ending, this will be one of my top ten reads for the year." -Cyndi Bass

Seeing FBI Agent Pierce Quincy as more than just Quincy was what kept me craving this particular series. His daughter's accident was referenced in the previous book and getting the opportunity to see more about his family dynamics and the reasons behind his divorce made him even more real. The scenes between him and Rainie escalated and I screamed at my e-reader more then once, which I love because it means I've connecetd to a book.

FBI Special agent profiler Pierce Quincy is the object of a bloody revenge.
It all starts we're to assume with Quincy's daughter's accident/death.
Then the plot really picks up non stop. Even the end was tricky yet most satisfying.
The killer wants Quincy to feel a total meltdown and practically succeeds.
The identity and relationship of the killer with his accomplice to Quincy's family
was very well done.

FBI Special Agent Pierce Quincy hires PI Rainey to look into the death of his daughter, who was killed while driving drunk. Then his wife is viciously murdered by a man pretending to be Quincy. Then Quincy's Alzheimer-stricken father is kidnapped while Quincy and Rainey are protecting his other daughter. Quincy dupes the killer, leading to his apprehension. Good series.

This is the first book of Lisa Gardner's that I've read, and I was pleasantly surprised. The plot was original (I read so many crime/mysteries that stories seem to overlap), and the characters sympathetic. Her writing reminded me of Karin Slaughter and Janet Evanovich rolled into one(more KS than JE). Definitely looking forward to reading more of her novels.

Good book for an airplane - fast moving action. FBI Agent Quincy doesn't believe that his daughter died because she was driving drunk - so he hires his former lover, now PI, to investigate the accident. They find themselves the target of a murderer bent on revenge who is out to destroy Quincy and everyone associated with him.

I gave it 60 pages to hook me and it never did. The prolouge was compelling and then it went down hill from there. It felt like I had walking into a play well into the second act. This was not a series or a part 2, the author just didn't handle her backstory well. I'm giving up. I have stacks of potentail books to read, I can't waste time on junk.

This was a pretty good mystery novel. I had read her more recent novels and this is one of her first novels. It has familiar characters that had always been secondary characters in the books I'd previously read by Gardiner. I really liked reading these characters in a different light. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

This was an okay read. I like her style and the connection to previous stories was not overdone so that you felt you had to have read it to understand what was happening. I just get tired of reading about people who go for days without sleep, as though that makes them a more interesting subject.

Good psychological thriller in which the killer gets to know his prey and spends time with them before he kills them. As usual I think there are too many coincidences, but it is after all a story. The FBI characters Pierce Quincy and Kimberly are also found in other books.

The Next Accident and The Thirs Victim are my two favorite books in this FBI Profiler series. Defintely a page turner. I can't say it enough, if you like a thriller filled with suspense these books are for you! The way Gardner cuts from scene to scene each chapter works really well with these kinds of stories. I couldn't wait to get back to each story line.

I found the book entertaining, but over all not a particularly good piece of literature. In many ways, it was predictable and I was disappointed with the anti-climatic uncovering of the killer. I found myself thinking "really, him? how boring". I like Lisa Gardner and I would read more from her, but this was not one of my favorites. It was just "meh".

My sister gave me this book after she read it and it was a little frustrating to know (you can tell from the writing, of course) that it wasn't the first story in the series.
I'll get the other two from the library.

Picked up this Lisa Gardner thriller after reading several other authors in recent weeks. This one grabbed me from the get-go and I finished it in two days. The tension is present for the whole story.

FBI agent Pierce Quincy is racing to stop a psycho who is killing the people close to Quincy. He hires a sometime girlfriend to help. The violence was a bit too graphic for my taste, but the mystery kept me reading.

Skimmed this; I learned most of this plot accidently reading a later book in the series out of order.
I don't particularly like Rainie, so I don't know if I'll keep reading this series. Interesting bad guy, though.
