Recommends it for:
Fans of LH: fans of romantic suspense with a lot of humorous dialogue
Jaclyn Wilde is an attractive, busy, successful wedding planner in Hopewell, an Atlanta suburb. Eric Wilder (funny, huh?) is a 35-year-old police detective in Hopewell. Eric and Jaclyn first meet when she literally bumps into him at city hall (while paying a speeding ticket). They share a few words and some admiring glances (he likes her 'world class' legs and classy looks, she likes his rugged sex appeal). Later after a very hellish day dealing with Carrie Edwards, a 'bridezilla' client, Jaclyn...more

"I liked it" feels like the right rating for this book, yet when I think about what to say about it, mostly criticisms come to mind. Really bad pacing/foreshadowing -- it starts as a mystery with no mystery, then turns into romantic suspense with no build-up of suspense. Forced humor. Repetition. An incredibly classist and elitist attitude on the part of the wedding planner heroine, who sounds like she plans the dullest, most cliched weddings on the face of the earth. (If you want to read about...more

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book. It really had the feel and "voice" of a Linda Howard novel. I didn't love it though. THere was a lot of filler and too much detail about the weddings that I just wasn't interested in.
However, I did enjoy the H and h. Eric Wilder, our hero is terrific. His grumblings about not being able to get a decent cup of coffee made me laugh.

Bayıldım diyemeyeceğim kitaba ama Alev Alev tarzında çıkmadı neyse ki. Kitap bana Sweeney'i anımsattı biraz.
I have not read a Linda Howard book in a long time and I was listening to this one in the car, but I had a customer that needed a book to listen to on their way home so had to give it to them. I did find a paper copy on the shelf and continued to read to finish it up. I was not impressed with this book because I thought it was just like a lot of other books only with different people. This book was recommended to me, but maybe they had not read anything by this author so didn't have anything to...more
Jaclyn müşterisi Carrie Edwards ile z...more
This novel was much more reminiscent of the Linda Howard I fell in love with almost a decade ago. The writing was cleaner and I didn't feel like I was reading an instruction manual. However, I also feel like she's already done this...a cop who has to interrogate his latest flame over the murder of her client. I wish she'd been a little more original.

Very disappointing. I think I only finished because I usually like this author. The mystery/suspense was almost painful¸one of those in which the culprit would never get caught except that they start trying to kill the person who might have seen them do it. (Come on, if they had actually seen you do it, someone would have had a warrant out by now!) Not to mnetion that those attempts on her life were so feeble as to be almost laughable. I couldn't work up the slightest sense of apprehension.

Does everybody just love books by qLinda Howard? I have really loved every book by her; never a bomb yet. She's kind of a sure thing-author, along with Karen Rose and Anne Stuart.
I enjoyed VON very much and read it straight thru without stopping except for emergencies (i.e.: potty breaks, going to work, etc.). This one is a solid 4.5 star book IMO. I was committed to the characters - including the secondary ones - right from the start. Jaclyn Wilde is a character I related to: she is one of Atl...more

2 ½ stars. Not enough relationship development. She’s mad at him for most of the story. Some plot details were missing.
REVIEWER’S OPINION:
I loved the beginning: how they met, the bar scene, and how they got together for the first time. I loved the first sex scene – wow, sensual, wonderful. But I did not enjoy the main conflict in the story which was Jacyln being mad at Eric for most of the rest of the book. I liked this for what is was. It was a light hearted romantic suspense. It succeeded best where the heroine, Jaclyn, was trying to deal with her frustration with the hero Eric. I kept picturing this as a romantic comedy. The scene where she pitched a hissy fit at a wedding rehearsal was laugh out loud priceless. I would totally go see this at the movies.

I was torn between calling this "okay" and saying I "liked it." I feel like Linda Howard has had some weird ones lately (some good - like Burn, and some BAD - like Death Angel),and this fell into that category. Unlike the normal Howard (or romantic suspense, for that matter), the characters jumped into bed almost immediately and then had suspenseful-type obstacles thrown at them, rather than falling into bed as a comfort thing in the midst of suspense. So that was different, but not in a bad way...more
By far, the best (or worst) Bridezilla ever. Jaclyn Wilde is a Atlanta events planner who has the worst client in history and on top of that, she has an unpaid parking ticket. Her day gets slightly better when she runs into Dective Eric Wilder coming out of an elevator...[insert interesting dialouge, sex, and murder investigation].

It has been a long while since I read a romance suspense novel; I picked Linda Howard's Veil of Night because I enjoyed reading Linda's previous novels, plus the heroine in this story is a wedding planner and I was interested to know more about the profession through the story.
Jaclyn Wilde loves her job and she put in all her time and efforts in running her own events business, Premier. Together with her mother, they had built up Premier's name through their detailed and well organised planning...more

This was a book that I found easy to put down. I never fully identified with the heroine. Now the hero...he I could identify with. As a matter of fact, I wanted a different heroine for him. Jaclyn is a wedding planner who is also a suspect in the shish-kebob death of her client. Eric is the detective assigned to the case and what a coincidence, he and Jaclyn just had a smoking one-night stand. (How the prissy Jaclyn unbent enough to go through with this was a bit of a stretch). However will he m...more

The 3-star review is for the AUDIO of the book, since I might have liked it even more in print but the narration was so inconsistent and sometimes awful. Clarinda Ross (the narrator) might be a good actor - her character voices are good - but either she just cannot read books out loud or she had very, very bad direction. Her narration (the stuff between the good character voices) was sing-songy with odd, disconcerting short pauses. I forged ahead with the audiobook anyway, but I think I need to...more
While I enjoyed the book, and liked the two main characters, I felt a decided lack of..something...in this book. Howard has all the elements here for a really decent suspense novel and a satisfying romance but didn't quite pull it out in the end. The best "heat" in the book was in the first part, and while I could believe the chemistry between the main characters, I would have liked to have seen the tension between them explored and developed more thoroughly. There was some classic Howard humor...more
Jaclyn is a Southern Woman (capitalized) who runs her own business with her Southern Woman mother. Howard's description of their office environment with the working relationship amongst the owners and their assistants, vendors, and clients reminded me of Designing Women. Jaclyn was actually not unlike Julia Sugarbaker -- beautifully put together, professional, and rigidly in control until something or someone pushes her over the edge. Eric kept pushing her buttons and her unusually busy week wit...more
Jaclyn Wilde works with her mother running an event planning business specializing in weddings. As a wedding planner, she has met her share of bridezillas, but Carrie Edwards was over the top and just plan mean. After a stressful day made even worse by Carrie and a ticket she had to pay, she decides a drink is in order and there she hooks up with sexy cop, Eric Wilder.

This book is about an Event's planner who has shut out the idea of love, but has met a cop and has a "one night stand". One of her clients is a bridzilla,Carrie, and she is horrible and mean to everyone. Jaclyn puts up with her because she was professional. Carrie pushes things to far when she thinks Jaclyn has been talking about her, she slaps Jaclyn and fires her. Jaclyn, glad to be rid of her, leaves the reception hall and goes to meet her partner to fill her in. Jaclyn finds out later that C...more
Yay, Linda Howard is back! I didn't care for her last 2 books, but this is one is very much in the style of Dying to Please, Mr. Perfect, ect. It's not my favorite - too predictable and not much suspense - but still a nice read. (If you've never read a Linda Howard book, try Mr. Perfect or Shades of Twilight. Be forewarned though, they are sexy romantic suspense novels...NOT on the "clean" list) I was worried after the last book that she was changing styles (she's done it before - those really a...more
Jaclyn Wilde is a wedding planner who meets Eric Wilder at a bar and hops into bed together almost immediately. The next day Detective Wilder showed up to question Jaclyn about her Bridezilla client, Carrie Edwards who had been murdered. He has got to play by the rules to clear her, but she is just too angry to care.

Linda Howard's newest release combines humor, suspense, and faster than you can say hello romance. It reads more like her quirky, off-the-wall romantic suspense (such as Mr. Perfect and Open Season) than some of her newer assassin-filled novels. So fans of her older works will be very pleased.

There are so many things to like about this book it's hard to know where to start. Jaclyn Wilde is a wedding planner, she deals with bridezillas on a daily basis and is always able to keep her head, smooth things over and make their wedding special. That is until she meets the ultimate bridezilla, Carrie Edwards who has managed to offend just about everyone involved in the wedding including the maid of honor, so when Carrie turns up dead, there are plenty of suspects.

I have to start off by saying Linda Howard is one of my favorite authors, one whose books I purchase sight unseen. I even had this one on my Christmas list! (And believe me, I have to limit that list, so I'm picky!)

The first third of the book was nonsense and explicit sexual content. I'm not a 50 Shades fan or any writing that sexually explicit, so I was a bit put off by that. The main character is a wedding planner, so the details of her day were frivolous and busy work. Not that I think event planning is an easy job, but the ins and outs and types of flowers, lace and fabrics just isn't appealing to me in such detail. There are humorous parts to the book, which made it OK. The well put together wedding p...more
