A fast-paced novel which takes the reader into the world of the sexual predator as seen through the eyes of local and federal law enforcement and from the personal perspective of parents who are losing their teen daughters to a serial abuser/killer. Shelves: own, on-loan-dorothy

This book was everything I have come to expect from this author. I read the first two books in this series (Tall, Dark and Deadly (St. Martins) & Long, Lean and Lethal) last September and I couldn't wait for this to arrive. You do not have to read the other 2 to follow the story, but the characters from Long, Lean, and Lethal are briefly mentioned. So unless you want a spoiler - I recommend you start at the beginning.

I wasn't really to sure about his book. I had read the first one and caught my attention right away nut this not so much. Then finally getting into it, I had a hard time putting it down. I loved how close to home it hit these characters. I love the whole Alpha male thing as well. Perry is a hot one at that. This is one steamy hot action packed read, one that will keep you interested and not being able to turn the pages fast enough. A killer a waits...

I cannot understand why I gave the previous O'Clare book (Tall, Dark & Deadly) 4 stars but couldn't even get thru 2 or 3 chapters of SSS. Seriously, was I crazy or was the writing, which aggravated me to no end in this novel, that much better in the other book? Because I found it stilted in this one. I also thought the plot flow in SSS did not flow. There was no indication after a few chapters that I would like the characters, the actions of the heroine were improbable and the police captain...more

Okay....this was a decent if aggravating attempt at Romantic Suspense.
On the plus side, I did finish it, and fairly quickly as well. And the overall storyline was pretty interesting, if unoriginal.

Now for the not so great stuff...Them main characters...Seriously?, I didn't, couldn't like either of them.

She's supposedly this kick ass super FBI agent, yet the small town cop gets the drop on her repeatedly? Uh huh...sure...okay. Maybe if we'd seen some evidence of her super FBI-ness, I'd have be...more Okay....this was a decent if aggravating attempt at Romantic Suspense.

Maybe if we'd seen some evidence of her super FBI-ness, I'd have believed it, but as it is, we're just told she's awesome, again and again. Then there's her work dynamic which IMO didn't make a whole lotta sense either.....she's an expert that was asked to help solve the sex predator crime spree...invited from her home state, to come to Mission Hills...so Who did the asking? And if she's such an expert, why did no one else listen to her! They kept telling her what to do...and half the time she just took it! and the team she worked with was tiny! Which, okay, didn't bug me as much, since the town's not exactly a bustling metropolis, but apparently said team had no women on it? Really?

And Him...oh him. he's an alpha male, but the asshole kind. He's very macho, as in he's the man, and she's the little lady and she'll do as she told, Even if she wasn't an FBI agent, that attitude would piss me off. He's just sooo tough and soo strong and soooo good at his job in his tiny little town that he makes super FBI girl look inept....and what is his background exactly? how is he soooo skilled!? We never learn the answer to either of those questions...and it would help a lot in getting to know the H, and why he is the way he is.
And honestly... If we'd seen a few bits of vulnerability from him....Maybe a few scenes of humility...or hell just one, where our so called expert surprises him and kicks his ass, I'd have liked him better....but it never happens because he won't allow it to. Additionally he's sorta of an idiot...(and I'm going to mention a few scenes from the book here but I don't think they constitute spoilers, but JIC, be warned)

Two times, right in front of the heroine, The totally hot, and amazing and super strong, and smart, who never does any wrong (and yes, that's sarcasm) Hero tells his family that they (the H and h) aren't in any type of relationship (and this is after they're 'sleeping' together and he decides he wants more then sex with his precious h) and that his nieces won't have to worry about calling her "Aunty"...Um Hello? How much of a moron do you have to be, to not get that that's probably not gonna win you any points with the girl? (and she never calls him on this either!) And seriously, almost every non related female character he comes across hits on him. Whether in the midst of discussing the sexual predator going after teenage girls, or in front of grieving parents, it happens again and again... (and later he chews out a younger female officer for inappropriate behavior at a crime scene...um WTH!? Hypocrite much?) And his boss...The Chief....he didn't come off as a concerned cop, or even that qualified. He was more of an asshole, who watched out for his own ass...It seemed like he didn't want any of his cops to be bad, for the sole reason that it would make him look bad. And he had such a freaking attitude! Fine, we get it, you don't like FBI in your territory or thinking one of your own could possibly be guilty.... But there's a different between righteous anger and being an asshole...

and add to my intense dislike for both characters, is that so much goes unexplained! Like okay, she is an undercover cop, so she has cameras doing surveillance in the front of her house...Makes sense, right? the big bad might drive by, but then why are cameras inside the house? (there's no evidence that he (the villain) has ever entered any of his victims homes,
so why the added expense? If it's JIC, why isn't that said anywhere? and how did the heroine not know they were there? (seriously, this is what you call an expert agent?!) oh oh oh! AND she knows the bad guy's driven by her place. She knows it . Yet she still has no qualms making out with the hero on her front porch/in her front yard for all and sundry to freaking see! with no attempt at discretion! Seriously?

Okay. I realize this has come off more as a vent/rant than a review, so for that (and the over usage of the word “seriously”) I
apologize. It's really not that bad. I just really really didn't like the characters...or the inconsistencies...or all the unexplained bits...but if you can get past those, it's a really good book! (<--- um, in case you can't tell, that's sarcasm, again) (less)

"Sigh". I found so many things wrong with this book. I know it's suppose to be erotic romantic suspense but sometimes the erotic overtones in the book became an overkill. I actually found myself rolling my eye every other page. Kylie, an FBI agent, is undercover in a small town trying to catch a sexual predator that preys on teenage girls. I found so many things wrong with this book. I know it's suppose to be erotic romantic suspense but sometimes the erotic overtones in the book became an overkill. I actually found myself rolling my eye every other page. Kylie, an FBI agent, is undercover in a small town trying to catch a sexual predator that preys on teenage girls. The FBI suspects that it may be someone in the police department so Kylie can't disclose her real profession and claims to be a college student writing a thesis on American teenage behavior. She becomes close to one of the teens in town whose uncle happens to be a Lt. in the police department. He also wants to catch this predator since he is afraid one of his nieces may be next. There is instant attraction between the hero and the heroine which she fights because the hero is also a suspect.

The things I found wrong with the book. It seem like the hero would think about having sex or the last time he had sex with the heroine at some of the most inappropriate moments. A teen is found dead in parking lot. He is looking for evidence, but all we hear in his mind is how much he wants to do the heroine, how he can't wait to do her again, or some other form of doing her. He rescue his niece from almost getting snatched and while o driving his niece home all he can think about is how beautiful the heroine is. Uh, your niece almost became a victim of a sexual predator shouldn't your mind be on that. The niece wants to give a description of what the man looks like. He says, not right now. "crickets". All I kept thinking was "what kind of cop are you?".

I couldn't understand how the heroine was suppose to be this great bait for sexual predators, especailly a sexual predators who was only going after teens when the author clearly stated she looked like she was at least 23. "crickets" Then when you find out who the predator was it just kills everything you read in the book and your like seriously. While on the ctime scene a tech starts to flirt with the hero and the heroine witnesses this and gets upset and won't talk to him. Is everyone in this fictional town incompetent. I mean the tech was physically all over him. When the heroine finally does call him to tell him she is meeting the perp and to meet her at the bowling alley she is cold and distant. Then during a time where she should be alert waiting for the perp she wants to blast hero about the scene she seen with the tech. I felt like the scene with the tech and the jealousy after was an unnecessary addition to the story and once again I rolled my eye. It made them look even more incompetent. I know I'm not suppose to take a book seriously and I really don't, but you can still write a great erotic romantic suspense without ruining the integrity of the initial story. The best part of the book was the sex scenes and that's why I gave the book 2 stars. (less)

When I read the back of this book, I was like I don’t think this will hold me, but Lorie proved me wrong! I had a hard time putting it down. I loved deep that she brings you into this case plus I didn’t feel like I missed anything about the case. I really wanted to like this book!! I even did for the first few chapters, I think my hope was it would get better. The story wasn't bad, a little predictable but it was the main characters that I could not stand!! They were awful!! I absolutely LOVE Alpha hero's but Perry was an A-HOLE!! IMO - I understand the alpha need for protectiveness and possessiveness but this guy was just a jerk! The heroine really rubbed me the wrong way too, I just can't put my finger on exactly why. I do believe this Is the best book out of the three. I don't thing I have found a book that doesn't leave me wanting more. She leaves you knowing everything will workout, but I would liked to have read how they did. The ending to the cliffhanger sense was a little annoying. I was not real happy with that but it did have me on the edge of my set for they second or two when turning the page. Would recumbent the entire series.

Lorie O'Clare was born in 1965 in San Diego, CA. She's the oldest of three children and for the first part of her life traveled with her family, living in many Midwestern states, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana and finally Kansas. Although her original intentions were to go on to law school, and she went as far as taking the LSAT, being a lawyer wasn't in the writing for Ms. O'Clare.

The same year she graduated from the Univ. of KS. she also married. Ten months later she gave birth to her first son. Her second son was born in 1994 and her third son in 1996. Although she wanted a daughter, this was also a plan of hers that would never happen. Six months after her third son was born she had a hysterectomy.

Her marriage lasted ten years with an amiable parting. During those years, Lorie began reading every romance she could get her hands on. Times were hard and she went through every romance novel her library had, then found very cheap book clubs and received new romance novels in the mail each month. The Internet also entered Lorie's life during this time and she made on line friends with similar interests to hers.

Lorie continued with her passion for reading, merging into other genres when she was convinced she'd read every published romance novel out there. While reading she often experienced the sensation that she could have made the story better. She began writing, purely for her own satisfaction. In those early years, when her boys were young and she was newly divorced, Lorie wrote eight full length novels. All but one of those novels would later be published.

In 1998, Lorie took the push from her on line friends and tried publishing her first novel, a children's story called Dolls Of Tashan. She printed manuscripts on her word processor and mailed them out as often as she could afford the postage. The rejection letters were painful but she kept every one of them, first in one spiral notebook, then eventually adding another, and finally a third. In 2003, Lorie published her first book with a very small epublisher called Amber Quill Press. The book wasn't her children's story but a romance novel. To this day she has not published Dolls of Tashan, the first book she ever wrote.

Later that same year, a good friend encouraged Lorie to try writing erotic romance. Lorie had a completed novel ready to submit. Instead of sending it to her current epublisher, she submitted it to a larger epublisher called Ellora's Cave. Although this was an erotic romance publisher and Lorie's novel was a simple romance, with little more than a chaste kiss, Ellora's Cave contracted the book and assigned an editor who taught Lorie how to write erotic romance. The book contracted was In Her Blood, a werewolf novel. Her new editor suggested she write a short story and turn the werewolves into a series. Lorie did this and her first book published with Ellora's Cave was Pack Law in October, 2003.

Today Lorie O'Clare has published over 60 books. She still writes for Ellora's Cave. In 2008 she sold her first book to St. Martins, which took her name into mass market publishing. Today Lorie has two books out with St. Martins with six more scheduled to release over the next couple of years. She also sold a book to Kensington Press in 2008. Currently she has two books out with Kensington and plans to continue writing for them as well.

Lorie writes full time, lives with her teenage boys, her two dogs, Dude, her Boston Terrier, and Lady, her Beagle. She also has two American Short hair cats, Ernie and Tigger. She plans on writing until she dies. "There is nothing more fulfilling than creating a new world and walking through it with the people who live there," she says, as her fingernails tap away at the keyboard.
