Of course, I love it! This young adult novel about a girl who received s heart transplant is dedicated "To Lois, and to Kaitlyn whose heart lives on."
One evening when my friend Lurlene and I were having dinner together,I told her about my daughter, Kaitlyn Arquette, who was chased down in her car and shot in the head in Albuquerque, NM, in 1989 (case is still unsolved). Kait was an organ doner, and, as the recipient of her heart and lungs came out from under the anesthetic, he described to his m...more

Really, really not among my Lurlene favorites. Perhaps I'm being overly harsh towards LM since I picked this up after finishing I am Forbidden on Saturday. I wanted to read something cottoncandyfluffy that I could read in a day (okay, well, I COULD read it in an afternoon but it really took me four days) and didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. I didn't want to use a whole lot of brain cells reading or thinking any deep thoughts at all. As far as brain cell conservation, Heart to Heart fulfille...more
I've heard before that Lurlene McDaniel is like the the Nicholas Sparks of the YA world... and I wouldn't disagree. Heart to Heart is the first novel I've read of the author's many novels and prepare yourself, you'll need those tissues handy in no time at all.
Within the first 50 pages, I was already crying- not a few tears, but actually crying. The author pulls you in right from the very first page, and although you already know what's going to happen, as the back blurb explains, you can't help...more

I read this in a day. I would have liked for there to have been more to the story, but I still liked it.
This story is told from two points of view - Kassey's and Arabeth's. Kassey is devastated when her best friend, Elowyn, dies at 16 in a car accident. Since Elowyn has checked "organ donor" on her driver's license, Arabeth, a 14 year old in need of a heart transplant, gets Elowyn's heart. There is mention of cellular memory, and Arabeth starts to display some of Elowyn's characteristics. Weird,...more

This book review comes with a warning: Reading Lurlene McDaniel’s books can be addicting. I see it every year. One of my students–usually a girl–picks up one of McDaniel’s books and then goes on a reading binge, devouring novel after novel. In fact, one of my students gave me Heart to Heart to read this week, saying, “This is the best book. You have to read it.” So I did.

This book taught me that you must Charish everything you have and eveyone you love because god can take it away in a heart beat. I don't know what I would do if one of my friends died. It would be hard for me knowing she is not going to make me laugh, cry, and be there fir me when u need her. I can't even imagine whammy life would be like! I loved how this book could almost make me cry...more
"Heart to Heart" is told from two points of view. Kasey is a normal healthy teenage girl. Although her parents are not together and she despises her dad, she still manages to keep happy. That is until her best and only friend, Eloywn, died in a car crash.
Arabeth, on the other hand, isn't as lucky as Kasey. When Arabeth was about 13, she lost her dad due to a war. She also has a very weak heart. She can't do a lot of the things normal teenagers do, like hanging out with friends, or even going to...more

Elowyn and Kassey are best friends have been best friends since the 7th grade. They share everything together and are as close as sisters. Elowyn turns sixteen and is given a shiny new red car for her birthday. She in turn gives Kassey a set of keys to her car for when Kassey turns sixteen in just a few months.
Kassey never drives that car because Elowyn is killed in a car accident one rainy night. Kassey and Elowyn's parents are devastated by her death. They then learn that Elowyn had chosen to...more

I think now that I've read just about enough of Lurlene's books for a few months at least although they do come in handy since for me I usually finish one of her books in under 2 hours and with the end of the year looming I'm trying to read a few more books before it's officially over.
I liked this newer book of hers though I didn't particularly like the characters other than that of Arabeth. After Kasey's best friend Elowyn gets in a car accident her family follows through with her wishes of don...more

I really, really liked this book.
The beginning as Elowyn is dying is just so painful to go through. My eyes literally filled with tears quite a few times.
The middle part is okay. There's a lot going on, like there's so many stories that you really don't know who you're switching to and everybody has so much happening at the same time. It gets a little crowded, but it's not bothersome. Just crowded. It's still interesting.

I found this cheesy and predictable. I've always found Mcdaniels books to be good, even if the outcome was easily predictable- as she uses the same formulas over and over. However, this one just didn't do it for me. I found myself wishing the book would just end. It was boring, and dull and honestly was one of the worst books I have ever read. In my honest opinion, I think the modern shake up of her older book formulas just failed miserably. I wish I could say different, because growing up- Mcda...more
I'd give this a 3 1/2 stars if I could. I think that the story lines was really good. It was really interesting to read about a heart transplant and the aftermath of it. The characters are not amazing, the beginning is only "eh" due to not really getting to know the girls- they seemed stiff, but what kept me reading was wanting to see where the author would go with this. I think middle school kids would like this read because it's such a different type of story. I just finished the book a few mi...more
Another inspirational novel in which death provides new life, told in alternating chapters from two points of view. Organ donation is the topic and it is handled quite well. As is typical of McDaniel's novels, she covers the emotional aspects of teen romance, grief, and recovery in a realistic manner. The cover illustrations fit nicely with the title and content: red cover with the title separated by two hearts, each heart made with intersection thumbprints, thus alluding to the concept of cellu...more
Kassey and Elowyn have been best friends since grade 7, when they met in the hospital, Kassey for her broken arm and Elowyn for her broken leg. I've read about the topic of this book: when someone gets a heart transplant, the person who receives the heart says and does things like the person to whom the heart originally belonged. I think it was a great topic for Lurlene to write about and she did it so beautifully!

This book is mainly about how the donation make people's life better. Some people have waited for their entire life to get these organs and it changes their life forever.
- The story was like this. Elowyn Eden and Kassey Messechek are best friends. They share every aspect of their lives. But one thing Elowyn has not yet shared with Kassey is that she checked the organ donor box on her newly acquired driver’s license. Lurlene McDaniel's newest novel explores the idea of cellular memory as experienced by some transplant patients.
Kassey and Elowyn are best friends. They have grown up together playing on the same teams, having sleepovers, and even vacationing together. They can finish each others' thoughts and sentences. They are almost inseparable - until the night Elowyn runs off the road and hits a tree.

This book wasn't my favorite but at the same time it was also really touching. Elowyn Eden and Kassey Messechek have been best friends for a long time. But when Elowyn tells Kassey that she checked the donor box on her license Kassey has a massive freak out on her. Elowyn explains that someone could need a part and that it's not a big deal. Something then happens to Elowyn to a point that doctors just can't help. Since she was a donor a grateful girl recieves the call that they have the organs s...more
Every once in awhile, I like to read what my children are reading. This was a book my eldest daughter brought home and I was intrigued. It's a quick easy read definitely appealing to the teenage girl. It found it interesting to see how Lurlene McDaniel would intertwine the lives of those who lived on despite loss and that of a young girl given a second chance at life. Throw in the cellular memory theory and it makes for an appealing read.
I love all things Lurlene McDaniel, so it was no surprise that I enjoyed this story. It was not quite as much of a tear jerker as some of her stories have been, but it still presents teens facing difficult and life changing events. The concept of cell memory is really bizarre to me, and it makes for an awesome story line-- in fact, I just finished a similar book- Cold hands, warm heart.

What made me like this book was the suspense that it had. And how the characters felt.A character gives her heart to another girl because that girls is dieing. And in the book the parents meet the girl with there daughters heart. I like the suspense between them and also the emotions they get, thet keeps me interested.I would recommend this book to people that like
This book was... all right. I cried a little when the girl died so that was something. It means something when an author can evoke emotions....
And honestly, it wasn't poorly written. I just figured there would be more to the story. It talked about 'cellular memory' (a transplant recipient takes on traits and desires from the donor, most especially in heart patients) so it was a little paranormal...
