Every Crooked Nanny (Callahan Garrity Mystery #1)
After ten years of cleaning up the dirt on Atlanta's streets, Callahan Garrity is trading in her badge for a broom and a staff of house cleaners. But, though the uniform is a little different, Callahan soon finds herself right back in the middle of a mystery when a client's pretty, pious nineteen-year-old nanny is gone ... along with the jewelry, silver, and a few rather s

First book in a cozy mystery series. In a nutshell, it is light, humorous, and likeable though not necessarily memorable. Has a Southern flavor to it. Some minor passages do not portray lesbians (hard edged with no emotions)nor African American women (house cleaners, garbage scavengers) very favorably. For that matter, even caucasian women were depicted as either racist, marrying men for their money, conniving, and just plain nasty. There are 8 books in the series.
This was the first in this series I have read by Kathy Hogan Trocheck. I loved all her Mary Kay Andrews books so opted to give this one a try. She did not disappoint. It was a great read straight from the start. I just love this author. If you want a light hearted, mystery with a little southern charm/white trash

I liked this first book in the Callahan Garrity series. Callahan is a very likeable character and right from the first book she is very human with a major fear that all women have--she has a lump in her breast and she is afraid it is cancer. In this book you also get to meet her mother, also a very likeable character and Callahan's employees in her house cleaning business. I look forward to reading more about Callahan and her crew.
Kathy Hogan Trocheck, the author, is somewhat brazen with the language used throughout the novel. But if you can get past that, the novel is a HILAROUS read. Trocheck "roasts" on the Church of Latter Day Saints versus the Catholic church. She also "roasts" on the politics of Atlanta's government. I have moved onto the second in this series, To Live and Die in Dixie.
This book, the first in a series, introduces us to Southern women who don't fit the "Steel Magnolia" stereotype. The characters are interesting, although the May-October romance has me wondering why so many stories are written about couples with such large age disparities. Good for a rainy afternoon.

*** mild spoiler if you've never read this series ***
"Every Crooked Nanny" is the debut novel of a continuing "cozy" series by Kathy Hogan Trocheck. The lead character, Callahan Garrity, lives and works out of Atlanta. She is a former police officer who now owns a cleaning-service business called House Mouse. The book was okay, a nice light read with a good sense of place. Perhaps an outdated view of race in the South, but keep in mind that it was written 17 years...more

A nanny disappears and seems to have stolen from her household. She was murdered - and the story goes from there. Likeable private eye, Callahan, was a private investigator, but now has a house cleaning service.
Featuring ex-cop and soon-to-be P.I. Callahan Garrity, using her House Mouse cleaning service as a major player in the mystery. The pink van gives the comic relief, much like Stephanie Plum's old blue car.
Read this because a beloved Outreach patron, Phyllis Brister, had suggested it to me. I think I liked it because I liked her so much.
This is a great kick back-and-relax kind of read with Southern flavor. I found it reminiscent of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series or Sue Graften's Kinsey Milhone series.
fresh, lively characters, good mystery. worth the read - want to get other books she writes.
Quick read, fun characters, keeps you guessing but no stress!
A good, light read. Nothing too deep, but a fun read.

I enjoyed the whole series.
This was the author's debut novel. It is a mystery. Not bad but a little slow. Now I need to read something serious.
Fun book, some language, but overall fun to read. Set in Atlanta and I enjoyed reading about places I know. There was a big Mormon theme here but she didn't know enough about the church and there were many mistakes about in this area. She wasn't negative about the church just misinformed. I liked reading this book.
This was an ok mystery. Wasn't carried away with the prose style or characters. On the whole it was what it was. Won't be in a hurry to read others in the series though.
A decent book. Fast-paced braincandy. Not one I would normally pick up, however, since I got copies for free (the sister of the author worked with my mom) I gave it a go.
This is a great new mystery series with quirky characters, a good mystery, and a hint of romance for a 4.5 day read. An enjoyable read.
First in this series. I enjoyed it enough to read the next one in the series.
Great cozy mystery. Kept me interested and guessing "who done it" to the end.
