"Black Jack"? More liked "Bored Jack"!

Lillian Belle, code name Night Hawk, is an undercover agent for Elite Ops, but when a head wound from a near miss assassination attempt leaves her with amnesia, her past and the dangerous secrets she harbors become a threat. Lilly's former trainer, fellow Elite Ops agent, and lover Travis Caine, code name Black Jack, is assigned to keep tabs on her when she's returned to her family and...more

Wow- this is the first Lora Leigh book I couldn't work up the enthusiasm to finish. The hero and heroine were boring and lacking in chemistry- my usual "go to" to hold up a "same old, same old" plot she's trotted out too many times before... and vice versa for that matter.

Sorry to say,

DNF.

A reluctant 4 stars or maybe 3 1/2 stars. Much more staight forward than the confusing Heat Seeker and much better editing. People keep trying to kill the heroine. Lilly is an amnesiatic Elite Ops agent who after being shot in the head, can't remember the previous 6 years. She returns to her life as the daughter of the aristocractic British family she left after the first time she was nearly killed.

Travis is the agent who trained Lilly and has been her lover. There is much om...more

We got a glimpse of Night Hawk and Black Jack in a short story awhile back, and we knew there was some serious something between them, and finally we find out exactly what it is! There’s a sexual chemistry that can’t be denied, or ignored, and this book sizzles with passion as our hero and heroine burn up the pages.

In my opinion, Lora Leigh writes some of the best heroes out there, hands down; Whether wholly human or part human-part animal, they are hot, demanding, and in charge, an...more

Travis Caine is known as a not so upstanding american citizen. He's been know to deal with the wrong kinds of people. Travis Caine is another 'dead man', who used to be and English Lord, betrayed by the woman supposed to love him, know he has nothing to loose, or so he thinks. As part of the Elite Ops Team 1 Travis helped train an elite group of women known as Elite Ops Team 2 or to the world as high price escorts. One of these women gave him something he didn't dare want or hope for, because in...more

My Review:

When I finished this book, I was actually a little angry because I was so dissatisfied with the way that the book ended.

Overall, I really liked the premise of the story and the two main characters, Travis and Lilly. They are both operatives for Elite Ops and have been secretly involved. But then in an attempted murder, Lilly takes a gunshot to the head that leaves her without her memories of the last six years, any of her time with Elite Ops, or any of her time with...more

I just finished this one and it was so bad I am speechless.

All of these books are just starting to be a more convoluted version of the one that came before. Cookie cutter stories that get more and more muddled as they go on. I do have to say that this one had some better editing than we have seen in awhile. Characters never before mentioned did not make any surprise appearances at the end.

When we got near the big reveal it was all explained out like some monologue f...more

This is the fourth installment in the Elite Ops series. Black Jack and Night Hawk were both introduced in Leigh's short story Night Hawk, which was released as a free download only. Honestly, I don't think that any of the previous books are necessary to get this story, but this series is best read in order to really understand all the characters and the ongoing story.

Lady Victoria Lillian Harrington just "returned" from the dead after 6 years. She has returned to her fam...more

I just started this book and in the first paragraph he is already in love with this female who he supposely spent one night with a couple of months ago. It's not looking good so far because I really don't know this character that much. He hasn't been mentioned all that much and come to think of it the female lead hasn't been mentioned either. A better lead in would have sold me more on their story. I would like it better if they met in the book and fell in love during the story instead of st...more

This is my first book in the Elite Ops series that I have read. I guess you could say it is typical Lora Leigh. The problems I had with this book were simple things that she shouldn't have gotten wrong: like having Lily's fathers title Lord Harrington pass to his half brother instead of his son.

Also, can someone explain to me if the identities of Lilly Belle and Travis Caine were made up for Victoria Lillian Harrington and Xavier Travis Dermont or if they had actually been real pe...more

This is another of LL's racy novels. Though this did have a good story, the cliche phrases she used for description are getting old. I have read a few of her books, and I feel that she is in a rut. I like the characters that she creates, but she needs new material for describing things.

Lilly Belle is a Elite Ops agent that joined the teams six years before, when she was targeted for Murder, along with her Father. Her Father didn't survive, but after a long recovery period and plasti...more

Meh. That's probably *the* best way I can sum up this book. It wasn't - quite - a DNF, but it came damn close several times.

I realised at one point that I just didn't care about the characters - the plot was standard Lora Leigh fare (not quite a stalker, but close enough to count). The amnesia thread was different, granted, but called for intense disbelief suspension and a rich vein of handwavium that I never quite managed to tap.

And then there was the sex. Normally, for...more

Pros: I liked the chemistry with Travis and Lilly. I thought the tension between Lilly and her mother made for a good, quick read. The amnesia thing has been done to death, but it really didn't bother me. The book wasn't drawn out with too many lovey-dovey things. To me, with a good romance novel, less is more.

Cons: Really? A Dodge Viper? THAT'S what Travis considers a great car? And he had a Jag in the garage. I thought he was supposed to be from Europe originally? It kind...more

Travis aka Black Jack ; Victoria Lily aka Night Hawk... hmmmm

Travis, British aristocrat; Lily, British aristocrat;
Travis, MI5; Lily's father MI5 & Lily starting path to be MI5
Travis, betrayed by wife, 'died', reborn as Black Jack; Lily, father killed, Lily almost killed - betrayed by someone close to them, she 'died', reborn as Night Hawk - but a part of her missed her family more than she should - she continued to monitor her mother, uncle/stepfather, & brother.

Could not get into this at all. Within 50 pages you learn of two sets of spies (male and female groups) that occasionally work together to do various jobs. All the jobs are working toward one unknown goal. The first scene is two agents having sex. After that the female is shot in the head and loses all her memories of being a spy and the affair she had with Black Jack. Now six months later the agency is using her to flush out the people who attempted to murder her twice by getting her to have a ...more

Basically, I like Lora Leigh books well enough because there are different aspects such as the adventure and suspense. The team and the brotherhood or sisterhood as it were between the members of the teams are also good. The sexual tensions between the hero and the heroine are well enough although I do wonder about the author and some of her ideas about sexual gratification. The sex scenes are more graphic than romantic and I personally feel more romance would be helpful.I have read several...more

Well, since I own it and I plan to keep it and plan to find the rest of them... It get's 5 stars.

The sex is crass at times... but we just skim those parts.

The plot is basic at best.... so really it shouldn't get 5 stars.

BUT, it has all the things I like in a book. No "woe is me's", her memory still hasn't totally returned at the end of the book but at the same time she's dealing with it. I liked the friendships btwn the characters, the dialogue and.....more

First read Apr 5, 2010.

Fourth in the Elite Ops undercover erotic-romance series. Elite Ops are men and women whose lives were torn apart. Given a new identity and training, they now work covertly for the government.

This series intertwines with Tempting Seals and I have this underlying urge to go back and reread both series to get it straight in my head…

This is the second LL book in a row that I've read where the ending left me less than satisfied. I liked the book for the most part...it had its good point and bad points. But then the end just went and loused it up. It left the story feeling incomplete and that just annoys me. So instead of giving this a weak 4 stars, I'm giving it a weak 3 stars.

Series Note:
I'd recommend reading this series in order.

WOW. Just wow. After reading LL's last book (Heat Seeker) I was afraid she had lost her touch, but this book proves me totally wrong.

If you have read the short story Night Hawk you will be familiar with the main characters. The story starts with Night Hawk meeting Black Jack (aka Lillie and Travis) to exchange a CD of information. The chemistry is hot and instantaneous. They share one night of forbidden passion before going back to their assignments. The next day, an assassina...more

Really, 3.5 stars. Which is such a disappointment because I was really looking forward to this book!

While I wouldn't say it was bad, it definitely fell a little short for me. I also thought the ending was a little abrupt. For some reason, I found myself disconnected from the characters - as I was reading it I never really felt "pulled" like I usually do with Lora Leigh's books. And I've loved all the other Elite Ops stories! Hopefully the next addition to this series will ...more

If there's any description for me to summed up this book, it'd be over the top. The characterization, the drama, the conflicts, arguments, etc; everything is just too much. Hence, over the top. The series for me, has been lackluster since Heat Seeker . It just lost its appeal and the suspense that I had fallen in love with in Wild Card. And the ending, for me, was lazy. I just hope that Nik's story, which I hope will be the next one since he's my favorite agent, will be a much better improvement...more

I'm stuck between rating this book a 3 star or 4 stars so I'll give it 4 stars because the ending was well done.
I had some problems with this book. It seemed Lora Leigh discribed too many things over and over again. Also I wished the book would have had more action. As always Lora Leigh turns the heat up between the H&H. Would I say you should run out and buy this book? No, I would not but I'd say if your a LL fan as I am, give it a try.

I'm still not sure what I think of Lilly and Travis's story. On the one hand, I like that they are both characters who have survived "death," and on the other hand, I really hated that Lilly lost so much of what made her "Night Hawk." The bits and pieces she remembers were what I liked most, but I would have liked to see her more cynical self find happiness with Travis. Lilly might be one of my least favorite Leigh heroines. But the villain...that might be one of my favorites...more

I was prepared to give this book a 5 until I hit the Epilogue at page 347 and then I had a WTF moment that left me so confused I reread the Epilogue three times. I've read a lot of complaints about some of the sloppy proofreading and continuity errors in Lora Leigh's books, and have noticed them myself while reading, but they have never disrupted my enjoyment of the book before. Has anyone else noticed this discrepancy? It almost seems like there were two different epilogues written and then ...more

Lora Leigh lives in the rolling hills of Kentucky, often found absorbing the ambience of this peaceful setting. She dreams in bright, vivid images of the characters intent on taking over her writing life, and fights a constant battle to put them on the hard drive of her computer before they can disappear as fast as they appeared. Lora’s family, and her writing life co-exist, if not in harmony, in ...more
