OKay, my husband already read this while I finished my last one and I can't wait to find out what all the chuckling was about! Plus he says Jacky gets worse and worse and he's concerned about my hero worship with her. Oh goody... I can't wait to devour this book!
I finished it! Once again, I couldn't put it down and although I want to scold her sometimes too, I love Jacky! I laugh right out loud while I read these books and I love that. Wouldn't this be a great movie series? I'd go. Hmmmm... I wo...more

I actully listened to this as a book on CD, and it was wonderfully done! I think I'll enjoy the rest of these books that way!
I really can't believe that my library website puts these books in the 12 year old reading level. The content in my opinion is not appropriate for those young readers. In every book, Jacky's "maidenhood" is put in peril, and she always manages to to get away with a close call, but there's still plenty she's not shy about. And now, she is forced into being a spy to keep tho...more

One of the better books in the series. This book furthered the plot which was a little at a stand-still and yet kept the characters interesting. Jean Paul de Valdon was a very interesting character to watch as he grew from snobby aristocrat to intriguing lover. I also liked the reappearance of Randall Trevelyne. He added some underlying conflict between him and Jean Paul. I also liked that Jacky got to be back in a situation where she was in command of a battle unit of some sort. One thing I wou...more
Oh Jacky, your life is never calm. I can't believe I've spent the last weekend just reading about it. My poor kids haven't seen me and Ricky even knows who Jacky is since I reference her in my everyday conversations.
So, this book was great but not my favorite. I loved the first half, I mean, come on, Jared Joseph was in it. I liked the men on the boat with her and was interested with the plot. I think I could have done without all the fighting and spying in France. I think there were too many p...more

This is the sixth book in this series and I think the funnest one so far. Jacky Faber is a hilarious character and I thought that she just gets better with each book. I also felt that you could see this series coming to an end -maybe? and I liked that.
These books are written for the young adult age but I'm not sure I agree with that. They are at times a bit grown up I feel. If you have teens that you might suggest these to, I would as a parent read them first and then decide.

Summary + Review (contains brief spoilers):
Faber Shipping, Worldwide, once again is in possession of a full ship, the Nancy B. Alsop, captain, Jacky Faber, who gets captured by a British Man-of-War for the umpteenth time in the series. Eventually, she finds herself in the grasp of the British Intelligence, for as her loyal friend and steward Higgins had predicted, they were in need of a female spy such as herself - someone rare, unanticipated by the enemy, crafty and clever. In this sixth installment of the Bloody Jack series, Jacky Faber finds herself to be quite free in merchant trade, and aboard her boat the Nancy B. Alsop, waiting for Jaimy to come home from his assignment in Chinese seas. Of course, her joy is short lived. She is found by the French, taken aboard, and put into a French prison. When she seems to be taken and put to the guillotine for her evil deeds done by Le Belle Jeune Fille sans Merci, she is actually taken by the British Intelligence agency...more
Much better than the previous book in the series!! This one saw Jacky captured by the English (again) and apart from her fiancée Jamiey for most of it (again) but it was not nearly as predictable as the Mississippi book. After Jacky is captured by the British, the ship that she is on is captured by the French. She is in a French prison about to be guillotined when the British Intelligence intervenes, fakes her death, and installs her as a spy in Paris, first as a "dancer" and then as a soldier o...more
After having been betrayed by an old rival, captured by the British, captured by the French, and bought out by the British Intelligence to, what she thought would be certain death, Jacky was a bit shaken up. But that wasn't the shock of this one of her adventures. It turned out that instead of being hung for theft of the Kings property, she was forced into being a spy.

As always, can't get enough of that Jacky! I loved the first half, the second half was only so-so for me. Since Katie did a review of all the possible love-interests for Jacky, I will do the same...since mine are slightly different than hers.and loving.
1. Jaimy...her betrothed. Who else chases her around the world and is always there for her? All the other men love her, but never hang in there forever.

...I am so very hard on my friends
And so can be summarized another wondrous tale of Jacky Faber, Midshipman, Gentlewoman, oft-described-as whore but not true, and Lieutenant in the French army this time around.
You’d think that after so many novels I would tire of what basically boils down to Ms. Jacky Faber meeting folks, righting wrongs done unto her, turning several peoples worlds into a mad spin, and burying a friend… yet I never tire of it. Though I do find myself shaking my head every time...more

The Bloody Jack series requires a certain suspension of disbelief. It's hard to imagine that a young girl would get blackmailed into becoming a spy, no matter how valuable she might be, because how could she possibly be effective under those circumstances? And Jacky's ability to cling to her maidenhood during her adventures is equally implausible. But that's the type of story this is, so I'm willing to accept it. What I don't care for is her ridiculously stupid behavior. I don't believe that Jac...more
Another wonderful Jacky Faber audio book--they make my 5 mile runs so enjoyable. Artemis Fowl is my favorite male character and Jacky Faber would have to be my favorite female. Yes, the stories are becoming less and less plausible (Jacky meeting Napoleon and acting as a messenger in his army). However, the stories are as enjoyable as ever and written in such a way to be almost believable.

Another entertaining installment of the adventures of Bloody Jack. The series continues to have a pretty heavy focus on Jacky (when she wants to) protecting herself from the frequent and determined attempts at her virtue. Sometimes things get a little smutty for a YA title...but Jacky takes it all in good humor (after all, she wasn't raised up proper, something she states often) and continues on her merry way.

Really, these situations that Jacky keep getting into are getting more and more fantastical... plus, she is supposed to be just barely turning 16 in this book!?! I did love the beginning of the book, with Jacky being held prisoner on the ship. The idea of Jacky acting as a spy was a good one in theory, but in practice, it was just okay. She sure gets around, all the while remaining a virgin, amazingly enough. I think I would give this a 3.5, if I could, because I did like the beginning quite a b...more

Oh I am SO Happy to be back with Jacky. I'm sad that this is the second to last book and happy that there is another one in the pipeline. I can't believe how much I enjoy this character. I feel like she is one of my friends and LOVE having her in the car with me when I am running around town. The audio reader is one hundred and ten percent AWESOME!

So, I would probably give this one 31/2 stars. It's not my favorite of the series, but there is always so much adventure that once I pick them up there just really isn't a place to put it down until I'm finished. This series is ridiculous and over the top and yet I'm still find myself excited to see Jacky squeeze her way out of another tight spot. She is such a girlie girl and the next moment cool, confident, and in control. Everything I secretly want to be. I can see why she made such and excel...more
Just when Jacky thinks she is safe and doing great, she is again captured by the English and this time she does not believe anything can stop them from hanging her as a pirate. But through an awful turns of events she finds herself taken captive (along with all the other English on the boat) by the French with a path toward the guillotine. In order to save her own life along with all she holds dear Jacky must take up the role of spy--one she vowed never to do. As Jacky heads into Paris--the city...more
I liked this book, because I like the Jacky Faber books, but I am ready for an end in the series. In was harder for me to be involved in the plot than in book 5, but it was a quicker read. I enjoyed the book, but it wasn't the best Bloody Jack book there. I think I'm ready for her to just hook up with Jaimey and be down with it. The book is about Jacky forced in to be a spy, and her adventures as a female spy, in some parts she is actually known to be a woman, and in other parts she is up to her...more
Best book in the series!!!! I am reading this series all in a row directly after one another and I had just finished Mississippi Jack when I got My Bonny Light Horseman. To be honest now, I was disappointed in Mississippi Jack. At first. It got better in the end, but it wasn't my favorite Jacky adventure. I then got My Bonny Light Horseman a little worried if I would be dissapointed again. I was not! I loved it! This book had the most power behind it. More than once it made me cry during the mor...more
In order to save her friends as well as herself, Jacky is forced to travel to France as a spy. Well, to be blunt, she is supposed to sleep with high ranking officers in order to get information from them. Jacky, in her own way, deals with this problem. Not going to say whether she does or whether she doesn't.
Then she goes off to war as a messenger. She trains troops and gets caught in the middle of a huge battle as only she can do. She runs into old friends and makes new ones as only she can.

Kaherine Kellgren has officially ruined audiobooks for me. She is absolutely amazing at it. The books come to life in my head as she reads it with many different accents for all the characters. She has such enthusiasm and even sings all the old sailor songs. I swear she's amazing. When this series is over I shall be quite sad to go back to the regular books with singular characters and narrators without enough ummph.

Once again I'm reading Jackie Faber and her adventures. **stop for spoilers*** She obtains a little boat and sets up a nice trading business, but just as soon as things start going well, you know that trouble lurks. So she is captured by a British Warship to be taken to England. She makes friends with the crew and leaders. She draws pictures for the doctor on board who likes to study birds, bugs and etc. She illustrates a book for him. She even eats with the officers. She is not kept as a priso...more
About 3/4 of the way through this one, I was thinking it was going to be the first time I have given a Bloody Jack book less than 4-stars. But, Jacky pulled me through with her ever-present insight, wit, and love of adventure. This installment is not the typcial Jacky joy-ride and perhaps that's why it took me a while to get into it. But, it ends with true grit and emotion and isn't that after all what Jacky Faber is all about? If this series ever ends and Jacky and Jamie go off to live happily...more

The adventures of the indomitable Jacky Faber continue, this time taking her to the French Revolution, and yes, she does meet Napoleon. She truly is Puss in Boots (just like the tatoo she wears), keeps coming back from what would knock the average person out of the ring. But this is a story, highly unlikely, but oh so enjoyable. I keep reading this series because I love Jacky, and how she loves life and her friends that have become her family. Rollicking good read! And great inspiration for youn...more
Jacky Faber's adventures continue. This time, it takes her to France where she is almost the victim of Madame Guillotine, becomes a British spy under duress, and is caught up in Napolean's war against the Prussian army where she meets L'Empereur himself. L.A. Meyer's plotting is fast-paced, intriguing, and his creativity in getting his heroine in and out of trouble is what makes this series very, very entertaining. A must-read for readers who enjoy adventure and romance, and writers who ever won...more
