Impeccable and impressive scholarship, for sure. But it also reads more often than not like a clever satire of the most tedious kind of academic writing.

Dolezel is a master of making things as complicated as possible. That said, once you get used to the heavy academic language, it's a pretty good read.

Lubomír Doležel (b. 1922) is a literary theorist and one of the founders of the "fictional worlds" theory. He received his Ph.D. in Slavic Philology from the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. He studied under several members of the Prague School, an influential centre of inter-war structuralist and semiotic thought.
