An honest look at the life of a research scientist in academia that isn't made up of scientific research. A lot of politics are involved in science and anybody looking to get into that as a profession should be made aware of these issues before jumping in head first. After reading it I don't think I learned a whole lot more than I already knew as a PhD graduate student but it did fill in some gaps and did confirm some suspicions I've had about the inner workings of the track to professorship.
