From a blog post I wrote in 2005:

Tamyra told me I should read Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series because Stephanie and I have something in common - things just "seem" to happen to us. Maria and I were talking about books and she said her Dad was reading them and sent her the first four which she loaned me. She also said they made her laugh out loud. Then, I was talking to Norene and she said she and her daughters have read all of the books.

OK, so I'm coming late to the par...more

recommends it for: Plum fans!
This time around, Stephanie Plum is after the neighborhood’s favorite candy shop owner, Uncle Mo. As soon as she takes on the case, she is snubbed by all. No one seems to understand that sweet old Uncle Mo has failed to appear in front of the judge, and that makes him a felon! But bounty hunter extraordinaire Plum is not completely on her own. She can always count on her mentor and possibly super-hero Ranger, her friend Lula, ex-hooker turned file clerk turned ‘bounty hunter in training’ (...more

I really enjoy reading Stephanie Plum's adventures. This is the third one I read as I'm making a point of reading them in order.

The truth is that at first I thought I wouldn't enjoy them as much as I do. After all their reality has little to do with mine - bounty hunters, italian families that seem to have come out of a Godfather movie, a definitely weird community where everyone pokes their noses in everyone else's business (well maybe that's not so weird)... but the truth is that I laugh o...more

Stephanie Plum Mystery. This is the one where she goes after the ice cream guy and gets shot at five or six times a day and Morelli is acting strangely coy. Lots of Ranger in this one. So far, I think I'm on Team Morelli. Ranger is awesome, but he's like Batman in that he's too busy tossing criminals around to have much of a personality or social life. I wasn't crazy about the plot resolution here. Any time I have to suffer through four pages of the narrator learning exciting things! that are ju...more

Stephanie Plum continues to grow on me. In this installment, she has to go after Uncle Mo, a man who owns and runs the local candy store and a man who is loved by everyone in the burg. This makes Stephanie a target of gossip and harassment. She talks about the Rangers which makes me giggle, because book was published in 1997 and Mike Richter was the goalie then. I was a little surprised to realize he's been with the Rangers that long and I'd been watching Richter right along with Stephanie. I a...more

Another awesome book! Grandma Mazur cracks me up, as well as a few other characters. I like how Ranger stays the mysterious character; it's fun trying to guess about him. And Stephanie ~ I guess you could say the Italian in her shines through. And I really like her. She may not be brave, but she's tenacious, and the thoughts in her head make me crack up just the same. And Joe...what I wouldn't do to actually meet him (if he were real, of course). Joyce - she got what she deserved. I just wish so...more

Ok - so I can't really say anything new here... These books are priceless. My mom wants to be friends with Janet Evanovich and I want to be friends with her characters - LOL.

Stephanie is tasked with finding Uncle Mo, a local candy shop owner. Uncle Mo is the equivalent of Santa in the Burgh which needless to say, makes Stephanie a tad bit unpopular. She decides to get in shape and takes to 6AM runs with Ranger - How long will that last when her primary food groups are Donuts, Beer, Pizza a...more

I loved the first two Stephanie Plum books but this one wasn't as good, to me. I have a very dumb reason why it wasn't "as good" - because Morelli wasn't really in this book as much, lol!

Evanovich still managed to keep me laughing & still managed to keep up an action packed book but the lack of Morelli & the lack of sexual tension between Stephanie & Joe was just not there this book. Maybe that was a good thing.. but who knows.. it just didn't do it for me this time.

The further adventures of Stephanie Plum, Jersey girl, bail enforcement officer continued in this, another worth addition to the Plum lexicon. I am glad to get to number 4, which is one of my favorites of the series alongside either 9 or 10 (I can't remember and the Amazon.com reviews are useless).

In this particular book, Stephanie has to track down Uncle Mo, a local saint who's wanted for murder. As the body count adds up (most of the deceased are drug dealers), Stephanie's own body is at ...more

I am liking this series more and more. It keeps me interested with the plot lines and laughing out loud with the antics of Stephanie Plum and her rag-tag group of "helpers." The only thing that leaves me unsatisfied is the constant teasing of her realtionship with Morelli. Much like Stehanie herself I am anxiously awaiting when they will actually do the deed. But that is what makes their relationship so much fun. All that sexual tension wrapped in an annoying but sexy package that...more

I was enjoying this book until I got to the final chapters. While I appreciate that the Stephanie Plum books are meant to be humourous light reading, Evanovich downplays what the Candy Man (Uncle Mo) has actually been doing and even seems to want you to feel sorry for him. I'm probably in a small minority here especially among Stephanie Plum fans but this has really put me off reading any more in this series.

Lula's character development was good and Lula also provided most of the humour in t...more

These books are still a lot of fun to read! They sure make a nice break from reading textbooks and scholarly articles. (even if I do feel a little guilty reading something that isn't teaching me anything)

The characters in these books are hilarious! They are well-crafted and incredibly entertaining, ranging from the heroine, Stephenie, who ends up accidentally having her hair dyed orange because she has to chase a fugitive through a shopping mall with the highlighting foil on her head, to Lula...more

A "saintly" old candy-store owner is on the lam-and bounty hunter extraordinaire Stephanie Plum is on the case. As the body count rises, Stephanie finds herself dealing with dead drug dealers and slippery fugitives on the chase of her life. And with the help of her eccentric friends and family, Steph must see to it that this case doesn't end up being her last.

This book was just as good as the last two. The humor is still there and still as hilarious. The story and th...more

Oh, the things fiction can do to a dead body.
Stephanie Plum is truly bad at her job. But she can't ever quit because then I would have nothing to keep my spirits up at work.
I loved the Ranger/superhero debate, and so I went and asked my husband, a life-long comic/superhero fan, if Batman was a Superhero. He said absolutely. So that means Ranger follows suit. Sounds good to me. I read Lean Mean Thirteen first, so I am a big fan of Ranger and his mysterious "in the wind" life.

although i love these books, i do tend to get tired of them, and have to take long breaks in between...kinda like the "eye of the world" series by Robert Jordan. I pick one up...cant stop reading it, then when its finished i jump right into the next one, and get tired of the story. Therefore, i read a few other books in between, then I'm ready for the characters again.
Definitely another hilarious caper! Stephanie Plum does all those embarrassing things you hope never happen to you...more

Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, must track down a beloved candy store owner who has skipped out on his court appearance, but neighbors and friends are unhelpful since they can’t imagine Uncle Mo doing anything wrong. As Stephanie continues her search, dead bodies keep turning up and she begins to think that Uncle Mo is doing a LOT wrong, but she can’t prove it until she finds him.

Quick read; funny characters (although not as funny as the second book in the series). Not as tightly plotte...more

I gave this book 5 stars because:
(1) I couldn't figure out who did it before the end (or at least WHY... SHOCKING, by the way!)
(2) The whole book was really... stressful... in a good way... I kept freaking out... (To me, this means the author has really sucked you in...)
(3) The last page...

:)

I'm really loving Stephanie (and Morelli, of course), but I also LOVE the other more minor characters... Grandma Mazur, Lula, Ranger... hahaha... We get some insight into Ranger's character in ...more

Better than the forgetable 2nd book, this one developed the characters a little better. I really like Lula who provides some very off beat humor. I like the relationship between the main character and her cop "friend" Joe Morelli. In this book that relationship heats up a little, but I have hopes for Ranger. He is always there when Stephanie needs him and he can protect her. The plot in this outing was a little conveluted and a lot - who cares, but the characters are entertaining...more
