Oh, the Places You'll Go Pop-Up
Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You’ll Go! is a wonderfully wise and joyous ode to finding one’s path through the maze of life. In celebration of its 20th anniversary, this classic bestseller has been transformed into a popup book by master paper engineer David A. Carter. ‘Of course, the most socially destructive literature, along with the Bible and O Magazine, was Oh, the Places You’ll Go by a Dr. Seuss. There’s one thing you must understand, my dear Savage; this Seuss - he was no doctor!’

Dr. Seuss is clearly the true essence of children’s books as he writes about life in a playful and lyrical way that children can easily understand. Well, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” is definitely no exception as it is about believing in yourself as you go out into the world. “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” is easily a book that every child should read whenever he or she are in a slump!

"It's opener there
in the wide open air.
Out there things can happen
and frequently do
to people as brainy
and footsy as you.
And then things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too."

I had never read this book from cover to cover, but I was familiar with it from quotes used in speeches and publications. The dean of our college read us a passage to close the graduation ceremony, and even then I did not appreciate how appropriate that passage was...more

I love this book. I mean, in general I love Dr. Seuss and all, but this one really touched me and its the only one I own of his.
I bought this and it came just as I had my two lower wisdom teeth removed. Lets just say there were a few complications and I was stuck in bed for over a week eating baby food and ground up things (have you ever had meat ground up in the food processor..ICK!) and my mom would read things to me. And this is one of the things she would read. It was so fantasitc.

I've had this book on my dresser for a long time, siting there saying read me, but my brain saying, but it's a kid book! Like, little, little kid book! Don't bother. So it sat there, in the waiting place. Just waiting. But in reality, I was in the waiting place. My god, I've been in the waiting place. What have I been doing all these years? Waiting! Just passing time. Not playing any games to win. Just waiting. How so sad. Not anymore. Who needs the gurus, preachers, god, etc, when you have this...more

While subbing this afternoon, I had the privilege of reading Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss to the smart 2nd grade class. They've read it before; it's one of their favorites. The narrative offers inspiring rhymes on graduating into real life and the struggles and triumphs that await you there. The simple yet profound, and beautifully written, message applied both to myself and my audience, as we are facing changes, albeit different ones, this coming fall. We read the final lines together...more
I just had to add this book because it is seriously one of my favorite children's books ever, if not the favorite! Children's books should be fun to read out loud, and this is so much fun to read! The kids sometimes want to read it and I have a hard time giving up reading privileges on this one because I love to read it so much. The message is so great, too. There have been a couple of times when I have quoted parts of it in pep talks to the kids. Josh (10) has heard this one a number of times.

I was given this book on my high school graduation day by my mom. I cannot think of a better book for children, people graduating ANYTHING, people who are opening a chapter in their life, or even those who may have just closed one. I still look back to this book when I need a a fresh pair of eyes in which to view the world.
When I read a book as this, I wonder does it leave an imprint as deep on an adult as it does on a toddler?!
I am not sure as the noises in the surrounding seems to dampen the impact even before it is completely felt. One thing I am sure of is, I would want this to be one of those lessons which drive me when I am stuck!

I happened across a blog entry on the dangers of The Waiting Place, which is described in this book. The blogger was free with his praise for this, the last work of Dr. Seuss, and I decided to check it out for myself.
I read it once. I re-read it. I read it a third time. With each reading I fell more in love with this short piece of prose that can barely be called a children's book. It is written to children, but the experiences it describes are those of the whole of life.

Oh, the Places You'll Go! is often used as an end of the year book. The book has the message that you can go where ever you want to go and be whoever you want to be; however, the book is also very realistic and states that sometimes will be difficult and you will get off track at times. This is a children's book, but I think it was meant for a much older audience. Yes, it is important for children to know that they have the ability to do anything they put their minds to, but it is hard for child...more

"Oh, the Places You'll Go" by the inimitable Dr. Seuss is one of a veritable mountain of books he has written to encourage young children to read. However, this is one of just a handful of his works that is equally suitable for High School, or even College, Graduates.
It presents the very true and valuable lesson that the reader will face many choices in life, and that quite often he will have to make those choices on his own. The underlying message is that choices made in haste often carry with...more

Now first of all let me explain from the start
that I love Dr. Seuss, he had such a good heart.
His stories are nonsense but also have meaning,
the wisdom found here is quite surely worth gleaning.
Some say it's for children; they'll love it a lot,
but it's everyone's book, so don't think that it's not.
In fact I would say that while kids love the tale,
the adults will understand more, without fail.

This is definitely my favorite Dr. Seuss book! "Oh the Places you’ll Go!" is fun and inspiring for people of all ages. I characterize this as a poetry book for all readers. The celebration of graduations throughout the story are real situations that we all encounter in life. Dr. Seuss has a great way of telling you to push through hard times to enjoy others. I received this book as a gift for graduating high school and I have read it countless times since then because it always reminds me that...more

Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss is a cleverly written children’s picture story book offering a high level of inspiration to any reader that may encounter the story. The book follows a story of hope about being anything that you want to be and going anywhere that you want to go. “You’re off to great places, today is your day, your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!” The entirety of the book follows a similar rhyming scheme to the above quote. 'OH, THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!' is a book that can be interpreted in different ways by different people. Although Dr. Seuss is a children's author, I personally think that this book is more suited to older children and teenagers. The book conveys the problems and challenges that people face in life. The colorful illustrations are very interesting and there are geometrical landscapes on most of the pages. We are introduced to "The Waiting Place" in the book, where people are always waiting for someth...more
Dr. Suess is a childhood-must-read author! Must, must, must! I had read Cat in the Hat, Fox in Sox, and ABC and others so I was surprised that i hadn't heard of Oh, the Places You'll Go until the year I graduated high school. All of Dr. Suess’ books are whimsical and full of linguistic tongue twisters. Naturally, I expected the same from this new book. When I read it and again recently, I found myself struck!
