I think very highly of this series so far. True, not much goes on, but Chi is delightful. If you have ever lived with a cat, you will probably find quite a bit of Chi's behavior and the Yamada family's experiences to be familiar. And, if you're like me, you may find yourself wishing you could have a big Chi poster to plaster on one of your walls.

The things the Yamadas go through with Chi are things many cat owners (or pet owners, in general) go through when they get their first cat, especially w...more

Audience- The audience for this book would be for both males and females, I don’t think it is gender specific. I think that this book would be good for students around 2-4 grade. The pictures tell the main story, but there are texts to go with some of the pictures. The vocabulary if fairly simple for younger grades making it a fairly easy read for younger students. Animal lovers, especially cat lovers would love this book because the depiction of the cat is exactly how a cat acts in real life,...more

Yet another in the "adorable cat graphic novel" genre, this time from Japan. This is a really lovely book. As a person who got a kitten for the first time in the last year, I can verify that it is very accurate. The thing I really like about this is that it's not just accurate about the cat's behavior, but how humans act around cats!

And how awesome cats are and how they so quickly become integral to your life if you have one. Yes. I am a cat lady. It's my cat's fault. This first volume very acc...more

This graphic novel will endear itself to readers and quickly become a favorite. Chi is a kitten that became lost from her mother. She doesn't know what she will do, and faints in a park. A small boy, Yohei, finds her. His parents decide that they can not just leave the poor kitten alone, and take her home with them. What follows is Chi learning how to live inside a house with humans, and her slow forgetting about her mother due to her happiness with her new home. Unlike true Japanese mange, this...more

Reason for Reading: This is a Cybils '10 nominee and required reading for me as a graphic novels panelist.

I've had pet cats in the past but I'm not what you could call one of those "cat people" so it's hard to believe, but I was completely charmed with this book. An easy book to read with many wordless panels and sparse simple text that can be read by any 2nd grader. The illustrations virtually tell the story by themselves they are so expressive. This is the story of a little kitten, a few month...more

My friend Pam knew that I was considering a foray into the world of graphic novels, and one day I came into work and saw Chi's Sweet Home smiling at me from my desk--a recommendation from Pam.

Chi really couldn't be a cuter kitten, and the story of Chi's adventures and antics will ring true for many (all?) cat owners. The book was sweet, funny, and surprisingly touching, and the art was bright, peppy and fun. Pam was right, though, the story is a bit juvenile, and that is especially emphasized by...more

All I wanted was something super cute. And this only sort-of delivered. The artwork is bright and stylish and the panels are easy to follow, and Chi the kitten behaves like a real one would (trust me, I grew up with cats, lots of cats). I was impressed with Konami's ability to convey kittenhood with such simple artwork.

However. Chi the kitten narrates in cutesy-wutsey baby tawk. Just wike dis. Oh, it is so adowable. Wight? Isn't dis adowable?

No, no it isn't. And that is why this has been upgrad...more

I've been in a bit of a funk lately, and needed something light and happy to cheer me up. Chi's Sweet Home, Volume 1 did exactly that and then some. How could this grumpy face not make you smile?

description

Chi's mischievous adventures had me laughing out loud. Her innocent curiosity as she explores her new world reminds me a lot of Yotsuba&!, which happens to be another fantastic book to lift your spirits. I personally find Chi's baby talk to be adorable. If it were a person talking in thi...more

One day while Chi was out with her mother and siblings, she wandered off and became lost. She kept searching for her family, but was instead taken in by a young boy and his parents. Since pets are not allowed at their apartment, the family tries to keep Chi indoors so no one will see her. The family tries to find Chi a new home where she can wander, but end up keeping her. The series follows the many adventures and misadventures of Chi.

This is the first volume of the adventures of a tiny lost kitten who cutes her way through the pages and through the hearts of the family that finds her.

Yes, I just used "cute" as a verb. There is no other way to describe what little stripey-looking, gape-eyed, jumpy Chi does. She's a tiny fool who realizes items like "prey", "soft thing", and "nice place". The saga opens with Chi getting lost in a park. She is found by young Yohei and his mother. They take Chi home and things progress from ther...more

because i feel like i have to review every book i read, i will quickly say that this book is adorable, and chi may be my favorite cat of all time. (i am not counting doraemon as a cat for the purpose of that statement, because he's like some kind of magical supra-cat)my favorite stuffed animal, besides my bunny, is the stuffed chi that sylvia sent me from japan - oh, he is so tiny and curled-up.

that's all i have to say about chi for now.

Having watched the anime version of Chi's Sweet Home I am already a little bit biased towards giving this a good review. What's not to love? If you're in the mood for cute, you can't go wrong with Chi. I think this is also great for fans of Yotsuba&!--that is, for fans of simple but charming slice-of-life works presented in short "episodes."

I also love that it's in full color! I wonder if this applies to later volumes.

Some of the jokes don't translate very well to English (e.g., Chi's name...more

Chi is a kitten lost and separated from her mother. When she is found by a little boy in the park, she is brought home to an apartment where pets are forbidden. Chi is confused by the new home and is constantly saddened by memories of her short life. Before the small kitten is house broken, she begins to answer to “Chi,” which is the Japanese term for urine. The family laughs and decides to call her “Chi” from now on. This graphic novel’s colorful illustrations depict the kitten’s cute antics as...more

This is a graphic novel I picked up in the children's section (but I've only seen adult cat lovers really pick it up because of the cuteness of the kitteh...) and that's what you get....cute kitty antics. A kitten who was littered outside with its mother and siblings lost them on the first page. So you know konami Isn't playing around. Then it just goes into the experience of being a new kitten owner.

I swear though, this book is very accurate if you have a certain kind of cat. Mine will make th...more

Chi's Sweet Home is an instant classic for anyone who has ever known a cat or kitten. Full of not only unbelievable sweetness, but humour, sorrow, excitement, and more. The series is really about what it's like to be a family with a cat, and how something that seems so simple as letting a little kitten into your home can transform every aspect of your life.

The art is excellent; simple, yet so expressive. The stories are so relatable because anyone with a kitten has been in the situations that Ya...more

OMG!! if you have ever owned a cat you need to read this book. Chi is a lost kitten, separated from it's mother after chasing a bird. He tries and tries to find home but exhausted himself and fainted. Along comes Yohei who is running and falls just short of where Chis lays. The family decides to take it home, temporarily since they are not aloud to keep pets in their apartment. Try as they might they cannot find a home for Chi and decide to keep him. While they are learning to be cat owners, Chi...more

Loved it! This was such a fun and adorable book about a lost kitten and the young family that takes him. You can't help but fall for such a cute kitten like Chi who tries valiantly to find his way home back to his cat family, but cannot help liking his adopted human family. Small children will enjoy the adventures of this plucky kitty who can find joy in the simplest of cat pleasures. Chi is beautifully illustrated and the text makes this book move quickly. I am going to dive into the next insta...more

Super cute manga about a Japenese family and their new kitten, Chi. It's mainly told from the point of view of the kitten and the author has obviously lived with cats and noticed their behaviours for years because Chi is portrayed as a real little cat, rather than a saccharine cartoon (so although its cute, I don't find the series too cloying).

The one thing I'm not so hot on is that Chi's internal monologue is given a sort of lispy, baby-talk voice, which I find rather annoying, but all in all t...more

Super-cute. The cat in this manga is just like a real kitten--silly, badly behaved, clueless, and adorable.

It's a simple story about a kitten who gets lost and is adopted by a young family. The family lives in a building that doesn't accept pets, so that is a bit of a problem. Otherwise, the kitten Chi just tries to learn what to do in her new surroundings. It's touching when Chi remembers her cat mother, but she's already starting to forget in the first volume, which is also touching in its ow...more

Despite the many recommendations I came across for this series (Chii's Sweet Home), I scoffed it off at first.

But somehow, randomly, I came across a copy of the first volume.

Since then, I can't get enough. It's light, easy to read, adorable, funny, heart-warming, you name it.

The art is rather nice as well, simple with bright colors and nice shaping.

I'm actually a bit surprised this title hasn't bee picked up for licensing yet. It might be due to the fact that every page is in full color, but...more

Good golly, that was the absolute cutest thing I have ever read. The art made it even cuter! Plus, it was so SO easy for me to relate. I understood and experienced every part of it. Even down to the hiding of the cat so the apartment people don't see. Any cat lover should read this! This was also my first manga book. Though it is nontraditional of manga in that it reads front to back and has color, it still has many characteristics of manga. I LOVED loved LOVED Chi and the family that took her i...more

These little cartoon comic books make me really laugh! This tells a story about Chi (a sweet cat) that finds a home where a family owns him. There is a little boy named Yohey, who is very sweet to Chi. Then, there are his parents who are very stupid sometimes... Later in the book, Chi finds a friend that is very caring to Chi. Until his best friend moves away...Chi gets very upset. I was like um...How could you!? Anyways, I'm not going to spoil anymore for you...now go ahead and find out yoursel...more

Chi's Sweet Home 01 by Kanata Konami is about a little kitten and the family who adopts her when she is separated from her mother and siblings. I read the book because we recently took in a stray kitten and I was looking for something different to read.

I normally shy away from stories told from the point of view of an animal because most authors can't pull it off. Konami is a rare exception. This mangaka gets cats both in terms of personality and in body language.

Although the artwork is amazingl...more

I love cats and can't imagine my life without my kitty. Chi's Sweet Home shows what happens when a kitten appears in your life. It accurately portrays how a kitten behaves and how its humans's lives change because of having a cat. I loved it! I think the drawings are wonderful and truly tell the story. I love that the book is told from the point of view of the cat, who is just precious. I think this is a wonderful graphic book for kids and I can see why the series is popular.
