I learned that God loves us very much that he sent Jesus as our Savior and that he wants all (everybody) to go to heaven for eternity.
God has been taking care of his people ever since they have been on this earth. he protects us and gets us through problems through prayer.

I am an atheist, but I've always wanted to read the bible cover to cover. I've just finished Genesis. It's worse than I expected. Genesis really sets the stage for the misogyny and homophobia that follow. Any book that teaches labour pains are punishment for Eve eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil should come with a WARNING label. This book is not suitable for young children.
The chronological order adds a fresh through-line to the biblical narrative that is different than the canonical order. The explanations are clear, simple and easy to understand (though sometimes simply redundant in explaining verbatim what you are about to read, which loses half a star for me).

This review is for the study aspects of this bible and not the bible itself

BEST book in the history of man
God's Word is the best & single most important book. Out of all the books in the world, this is the one I hope that everyone will take time to read. If we are as diligent in reading this as we are in all the other books of the world, our understanding, personal peace, & spiritual life will change not to mention our relationship with Jesus Christ. My prayer is that everyone who reads it will allow Him to touch them as only He can & change your life. Permanently.

Okay, so I've done many Bible studies since spring 2001, but never actually read through the entire Bible. I started my "one year through the Bible" journey in January 2010 and I'm still on the road. I love the reading plan that I have....I read a section from the Old Testament, the New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs each day. I downloaded the plan from Dailyaudiobible.com (DAB) which, by the way, is a great site. Brian Hardin, from DAB, does the year through the Bible every year (sin...more

I WILL ALWAYS BE READING THIS.. What I love about the Life application study bible is the explanation from start to finish on each book of the Bible. If you have trouble reading the Bible like I do this is a MUST. It will explain why the text was written, where it was written(with graphs, etc), who it was written to, as well as providing a commentary that allows you to see what God is trying to teach you..THE VEIL WAS LIFTED ONCE I STARTED READING THIS!! I highly recommend!!!
My rating of 4 stars is, of course, for the NIV Life Application notes which appear at the bottom of each page, not for the text of the Bible itself which will always get the full 5! :) I'm going to assume everyone knew that but wanted to clarify juuuust in case.
The notes range from being academic or historic commentary to applications for contemporary life, at times stretching the point a little to make it fit into a modern application. There were several places where I disagreed, ...more

It is unlikely that I will ever truly "read" this, but will instead refer to it from time to time and read passages both greater and lesser in size as the mood strikes me. I do enjoy having a bible for reference, and this was a gift to me when I graduated high school. I am intrigued by the difference in format from the King James bible (and mildly amused that the Catholic church was not listed in the Preface among the denominations of those distinguished scholars who worked on this t...more

Obviously I will be journeying through this for a long time. I had been using the Devotional Bible by Max Lucado, but prefer this edition. I like the footnotes, explaining the historical context in which it was written, who it was intended for and why. It helps me to put it into a framework for my life. Reading concurrently with the "Don't Know Much..." text, which attempts to put some of the same information as the footnoting in a very colloquial style. Amusing and informative, m...more
A constant source of life, hope and strength.
I have been reading 4 chapters a day (Sundays off:) since January, 2011 to "Read the Bible in 1 Year". I'm almost finished!
I've read through many different study bibles in my work as a youth minister. I haven't found any to be easier to understand or have more useful information than the Life Application Study Bibles. The NIV version works well as it tracks with the Episcopal denomination, to which I belong. In general the commentary does a great job giving very useful information right on the page regarding the historical activities going on during the time of the verse being referenced.
It's God-made. Yet it's added with great details by us men on how to live truly as a Christian. Truly applicable & omniculture. Reading this require a lifetime to spend with. Also dedication & ponderings. But in the end, it bears many fruit. Sadly this one not compact. Wish i'd found the ESV one. From Infinity to finity ^_^
Also, Thx to my faithful Mentor Mr. Indra who give me this Great Book. And of course, My Utmost to God Only ^_^

I have many different versions of the Bible but this is by far my favorite and I always go to it for my answers. Wonderful sidelights, bios and explanations pepper the bottom of each page yet never overpower the Words of the Bible above it. Great lead-ins start each book of the Bible so you feel you know what you are about to read...filled with nuggets of wisdom to keep you from getting confused or lost in the text.
I liked nearly all of the notations in this collection. There were still a few borderline homophobic interpretations that never seem to jive with the excessive justifications provided for sections that could be deemed sexist or racist. Still, the majority of the text focused on application of parable and history in creating a more reflective life with personal and communal responsibility as part of faith.
Read through the bible a few times and studied various chapters...and believe that no matter what faith you prescibe to there are many lessons to be learned in this amazing text...many things we do and teach out children that have been rooted in these pages. Worth the read if you have time to do it slowly, read the study notes and contemplate. It doesn't read like a novel though so...slow down. :-)
I'll admit, I've mainly read just the New Testament from cover to cover while in college. It was an NIV Study Bible, not sure if this is the same version, but NIV was easy for me to memorize & quote. The study sections also provided deeper insight into who was writing the book, their intended audience, and had footnotes to further explain various verses. Very helpful.
Life Application version was fantastic choice for the first time I read through the Bible. Really helped put what I was reading in perspective, and explained the significance of of some of the the traditions and times that would have been over my head otherwise. This is still the Bible I use when working through different topical Bible studies. LOVE IT!
The Bible is how I start my day. I read a chapter everyday and am learning about who God says He is. The world has believed such a lie about God. He is not the angry vengeful God that the secular world would have us believe. I have found tenderness, gentleness and salvation in scripture and in having a relationship with Jesus Christ my Savior.
Just received this new bible as a present from my mom. Looking forward to seeing what it has to offer. Although I grew up reading parts of the bible, I have never taken on the task of going through it all on my own or reading it all in one attempt. That is something I would like to see if I could do. I will add more to this as I read.
This was my brothers bible. He died when he was 17 and i was 16. I kept it for 15 more years, using the subject guide for "quick answers" before i finally determined to actually read it. It is getting very rattered and tattered, and i have other bibles, but they are not as comfortable to me to navigate and understand as this one!
This bible is really helping me to grow and learn in my faith. I have never read the bible, nor was I raised with any religion to speak of, so it's almost all new to me. I enjoy the way it explains events in the bible and applies it to life today. This is really a great bible, especially for new Christians like me!

This is my favorite version of the Bible. I have this in hardback, however I use my online app reader by Olive Tree much more frequently and especially during church services where it is much easier and faster to use than a regular book.
I will say this study version by Zondervan is incredible.

love love love the character profiles, notes for practically every verse, timeline, and concordance/dictionary in the back. It's great for daily study, but a little large for me to tote to church.
This version of the Bible is good for getting the general feeling of the chapters overall, but the real punch and vigour of the Bible can really only be found in the King James version. If you look at the difference between the two versions in Isaiah alone you'll know what I'm talking about.

I first read through the bible in 2008 and it enriched and blessed my life in ways I never imagined. I plan to read through it again with my husband in 2011. We are using the same reading plan I used in 20008 which is by saddle back church: http://docs.purposedriven.org:8088/docs/...
