So having read seven Clique books, it's only fair that I leave a review! My first impression of this series was that it was a fun pseudo-gossip girl that I could enjoy while waiting for my ankle to heal. Well it was fun and it's grown on me.

Claire is too caught up with her movie career to hang out much with the pretty committee. But she learns what it’s like to be Massie Block. Ans he doesn’t really like it. It’s same in the real world. Like you cant trust anyone with your secrets because when you’re a star, those secrets are worth money!
Kristen is upset that everyone in the pretty committee is famous and she isn’t, when every one asks for autographs from massie, Claire, Dylan and Alicia, she is the one left out because they got suspended and Kristen had to write an essay so that they can all get back to school, not only is her hard work not appreciated, she has to watch the pretty committee get all the attention and be the one being puched to the side. But when the P.C joins the OCD Sirens, massie sees how Kristen isn’t just a side character to the brains to the P.C she takes Kristen more seriously now that she sees how popular Kristen is with the Soccer team.

However, because Massie and the Pretty Committee are convinced that everything is in their power, she encounters a few dilemmas along the way. As a result, these problems are easily solved by their manipulative ways in style and domination.

While reading this book, I mentally made a text-to-self connection. In my own experience, I have encountered multiple girls who are convinced they can get exactly what they want, when they want it. Nevertheless, I have learned that these girls cannot get exactly what they want, because they are never satisfied. Once they are done bullying one person, they move on to the next, never letting the guilt phase them. Along with this, I've also discovered that although girls like the Pretty Committee members seem to have everything and a perfect life, they are always missing something, and that ten years from now, they're impeccable hairstyles and impertinent comebacks won't mean a thing.

After reading this book, I have chosen to give it two stars. I awarded this book with such a low rating because I found it immature and childish. Clearly, the low-level booked is meant for girls around the age of 12. Although I remember loving this particular book in the Clique series, perhaps my taste in literature has changed. On a lighter note, I did find this book mildly entertaining as I remembered it to be, and perhaps I just found it boring after reading it a second time. However, I would recommend this book to a younger crowd, or someone around my age who is looking for a very light read.

I think this book was hard to read only because it was very detailed in the wording like"ehmagawd" weid spelling. But i agree with the title it is not easy being mean. sometimes it may be but sometimes it is not. None of the characters related to me because they were all preppy and im not. Also because most of the girls in there are rich with a celebrity parent or a role in a movie.

This is the seventh book in the series. 8th grade alpha female, Skye, has the key to the secret room in OCD and the Pretty Committee needs to get it. The problem is that Skye won't tell them where it is hidden and any girl can find it. The Pretty Committee is off on a scavenger hunt on a race against time for this key, otherwise the PC will be ruined for the rest of their lives. More trouble and drama for the 7th grade girls

It's Not Easy Being Mean was a pretty good book. I mostly enjoyed the book because I like Drama stories. This book was a pretty good book over all. Especially when I can relate to the stories.

This book belongs to a series of novels beginning with The Clique. It's not something I would generally pick up due to the fact that it's about a gang that thinks they are better than everyone else, but for some reason I did pick up the books and enjoy the nice, short, light read.

The pretty committee thought for sure that they would find the key to the heavenly room, but who could be sure when Losers Beyond Repair (LBR) like Layne Abeley are looking for the key too. The key was to a room at Octavian Country Day’s that staff didn’t know about and only O.C.D’s eighth grade alphas were given the key. However Skye Hamilton was the alpha Massie was in seventh grade, and Skye made a riddle to find it so Massie and some L.B.Rs would be competing for it. Claire Lyons an ex-clique member found the key and traded the key with Massie to be back in the pretty committee. The whole book led an interesting journey to that point. A good thing about It’s Not Easy Being Mean was the constant humor, even when Massie was worried sick about the key.

One morning Claire was wearing a heavy jacket and looked nothing like the other Clique members who were wearing designer names and no jackets, so Massie asked her “Are you a zit?” Of coarse Claire said “NO!” and Massie asked “Then why are you all covered up?” Later when they were deciding how the Clique would the key Claire suggested an idea and Massie said, “…..You must be poor….cause your not making any cents.”

One time when Dylan dropped a plastic bag on the ground with no regard for the environment Massie asked her if she was a cat and when she said no Massie shouted then what’s with the litter?

One part that makes this book really funny is how Claire is always getting embarrassed like when she was getting ready for her addition she had to wear eyebrow extensions and outrageous black hair, for a few days. Claire also got embarrassed when the pretty committee was rating their outfits and she didn’t even want hers rated because of its insufficient level of designer names and over use of jackets.

It’s Not Easy Being Mean showed the weakness of even the “Alphas” of middle school, like Massie converting Skye’s reputation. Also Skye writing the poem about Chris Abeley which shows that no one is perfect. It showed that you can have innumerable friends even if you have a smaller house (like Skye) and it did all this while telling about the amazing cliquey live of the Clique girls.

Lisi Harrison wrote a book similar to the movie "Mean Girls", describing Massie's ambition and Claire's happiness of finally being accepted into the world of fashion. I really felt the way Massie did when she was running around trying to find the key, her frustration, and trying to find hope, but having to fail.Especially her anger when Claire would ditch them in her most needed moments.I believe it takes place in Manhattan,New York, somewhere around 2002-2009.Massie Block has that tireless ambition to win and be on top constantly,even if it means hurting others, even her friends.She is daughter of William and Kendra Block, she desperately wants to be normal, but at her school, she is expected to be perfect and fabulous 24/7 is her burden. I like how Lisi Harrison described Massie's emotions,by making references to designer brands,makeup, and products and everything fabulous.But what I don't like how in the end, its a clifhanger about the "room", and how insecure The Clique is,by putting people down to feel better about themselves.

I believe Lisi Harrison chose "It's not easy being mean", because in her titles she makes references to famous sayings,books, and movies, such as "It's not easy being mean", the original was "It's not easy being green", by Kermit the frog.And "These boots are made for stalking, is really,"These boots are made for walking, the song. I also believe she chose that title, to show, how it's not easy being mean to keep your popularity status/reputation, and how it's not easy doing what Massie does.

A great book filled with fighting,finding, and catfights, and most of all, Cliquetorship!

I've read all the Clique books and this is one the most recent. I read 'em all out of order, soooooo, yeah. In this book, Massie and the Pretty Comitee are on a mission to fimd the hidden key. This most important key, was handed down from the 8th grade alpha, Skye Hamilton. But in order for them to be OFFICIAL alphas, tehy need the key, to the ALPHA room. I really loved this book, and the Clique series in general. Each book has something new and different, and I love how you really get to know the characters. I can't pick a favorite, though. Wow! What a relief, getting back into OCD was a piece of cake! But, when Skye Hamilton, the 8th grade alpha, gives Tiny Nathan and Todd a CD-ROM, they get it from Todd and play it. Usually, the seventh grade alpha automatically gets the key, but since it is the fifth anniversary of the Room, Skye decides that whoever finds the key will receive the total and complete power of the room. During lunch, Alicia compiles a list of Briarwood boys Skye has kissed and delivers all the names that her source told her to Massie. Massie finds out that Derrington, her boyfriend, is one of them, and that Alicia's crush, Josh, is also one of them. After school, the Pretty Committee head to the chapel to discuss the key. While there, Massie convinces Claire to call Cam and ask him if they can go to his house, so that they can check his brother Harris Fisher's mattress. Cam can't have them come over the current day, and Claire has a meeting the next day, but instead lies to Massie that Cam's uncle is visiting. Claire heads to Manhattan for a meeting with her agent, saying that she had an offer to star in a film directed by Bernard Sinrod, who is a bigshot director making a movie about a runaway teen who meets a prince and falls in love with him. Her agent says she will need choppy black hair and a unibrow for the audition. The chapter leaves off with Miles the agent asking Claire what it's gonna be. Claire is reluctant to accept because she'd have to have her hair dyed black and cut choppy and have goat hair sewn into her eyebrows to create a unibrow. She also can't eat much to look like a real runaway. The next chapter starts as Claire wearing knockoff sunglasses and a hat, then going into the GLU (Girls Like Us) Headquarters, which is Massie's horseshed turned spa. Once there, no one questions Claire about how her meeting went. Instead, they hand her a packet with all the guys that Skye had kissed and why they might have the key. Finally, Claire suggests that they move Cam's house to Monday instead of Friday. Massie gets upset, asking why. Claire admits she has an audition then whips off her hat, revealing black hair and a thick, coarse unibrow made of goat hair. The next day, the Pretty Committee all have missions to go to a boy that Skye has kissed's house. Massie to Derrington, Alicia to Josh Hotz, and so on and so on. When Massie goes to Derrington's room, she finds out that he is a pig. Alicia finds out that Josh is a neat freak. While going to Cam's house without Claire, Massie discovers that Cam's uncle didn't visit, and Claire was lying so that they wouldn't go without her. Massie gets upset that Claire almost sabotaged the Pretty Committee and kicks her out of the Pretty Committee. Claire and Layne figure out that the key is under Chris Abeley (Layne's brother)'s mattress, and get it. After Layne and goes to a conference with the Pretty Committee, she uses the key to get Claire back into the Pretty Committee. The story ends with Skye and the DSL Daters unlocking the door to the secret room for the Pretty Committee, who are left speechless. This leaves you wondering, since Lisi Harrison doesn't describe it. It ends with Skye opening the door, and the Pretty Committee gasping - but no one could say anything.

It's Not Easy Being Mean starts us off where the last book left us off. The plot of this was one of the most interesting of all of the clique series, probably because of their determination to win the prize. I really enjoyed reading this book, because it finally allows readers to actually view how insecure the Pretty Committee is even though they are so popular and are basically worshiped by their classmates. This book didn;t dissapoint me and made me want to read the eighth book of the series....more

This book was amazing!!! I loved how they just started going into boys houses and looking under they're beds. Like really? Who does that! I also really liked the twist with this book!!! This random girl named Skye just starts telling them to go tear up boys bedrooms!
I didn't really dislike anything about this book! All of the imagery was good and the author's description of certain things were amazing!
A lot of things in this book surprised me! I had no idea any of it was going to happen!
