A superb sequel to "Blood Sisters". An exciting tale of love, hardship, undying friendship, loss, savagery, degradation and in the end hope and redemption. In the first years of Kenyan independence, three friends, Sarah, Hannah and Camila, united by their love for this country, eventually solve the mystery surrounding Langani Farm. An epic novel which is a reminder of the problems we are still experiencing in South Africa.

The second book I bought (with cash) while I was traveling and climbing in Tanzania. It's based in Kenya in the 60s, but the story is really about the relationships in it and did not seem overly dated. I enjoyed the writing and the story - the characters are very deeply explored and the trials they go through are fascinating to think about.

Adorei o primeiro livro e voltaria a lê-lo.

When your life becomes hostile, can you tame it and find happiness? This novel deals with this timeless thought as our three protagonists try to find s place in life for them. This second installment of "the Langani Trilogy " runs into some tough times for the girls as their coming of age passes and they enter the adult world. But, one thing is for sure, life does not get any easier. As a string of violent crimes are committed against the Langani Ranch no one can figure out who is doing it and w ...more

Truly amazing story! Loved this one even more as it provided answers and conclusions to so much opened up in the first Keating book, Blood Sisters. So sad when it was over...But just yesterday, found out that the Keating sisters wrote one more book in the Langani series, so we don't have to say good-bye to the blood sisters after all! It is not yet available in the states. I am hopeful that Caroline can get a hold of one while in South Africa this month! This is a MUST READ!

It is a very hopeful story. I liked it but somehow the language put me off a bit. It was too hopeful, unrealistic to me. The way the characters just didn't hit rock bottom, kept going on despite everything. It seemed fictional to me because in the real world we do break down and hit rock bottom and give up sometimes. However, i found it to be encompassing and rich and suspenseful.

Absolutely loved it. this book (2nd of a trilogy) focuses on the three (white) girls/women -they are in early 30s now - and Kenya is just so alive and vibrant, yet also so insecure and often dangerous. An interesting way to look at identity -they all see themselves as Kenyan, first and foremost.
At times, feels like an autobiography rather than a novel as it is so engaging.

A worthy and entertaining follow up to Blood Sisters. Same fantastic African imagery, and the same characteristic twists and turns. Looking forward to the final instalment of the trilogy, which I've already started reading!

This book did not disappoint me one bit. Twist and turns along the way and the drama. So good this series. Moving on to the next book hopefully tonight. Forgot the name of it though but it will be the last in the series and I will sad when I finish it. This has been a well written series

Not as good as the first one but still a good easy read with momentum. Some bits a little predictable. Not sure I will bother with the 3rd book.

The second in a trilogy and really good. They are long and take me an age to read, but the storyline is great and we follow 3 very different women in their twenties. It's harsh, not fluffy!

Its an OK read. Might have better if I had read the prequel, Blood Sisters. I imagine the next book is going to address relationships of Simon's child and Hannah's children, history, etc.
