This book, presented in a narrative format, is truly remarkable. Each project is described in detail and accompanied by a short little narrative giving a fantastic inspiration for each piece. While I have only tried about half the projects, I have already had great success with the ones I've attempted. I found it easy to alter the designs to fit the materials I already own. My only complaint would be that metal clay is a part of several projects, and while most of the time it is fairly simple to More...

Enchanted Adornments by Cynthia Thornton is easily on my top 5 favorite beading books of all time. I have always been a huge fan of Cynthia's designs that are often published in Stringing Magazine. I was thrilled when I heard that she was working on a book. She certainly lived up to my expectations. From the sketches, to the imaginative stories to the actual designs presented in this book, I was simply and irrevocably enchanted. Furthermore, I learned something new! I learned all about polymer c More...

I got this for a holiday gift from my hubby. I discovered it at Barnes and Noble one night while having coffee. The stories really surprised me - it was not what I expected from a "how to" book on jewelry making. The stories make a magical adventure out of each jewelry making endeavor. I LOVE the book even though I haven't had a chance to make any of the projects out of it. I cannot wait to delve into some of the ideas the author shares.

The techniques, ideas, and jewelry pieces were interesting. I did not like the way the projects were presented, though - scattered amongst fantastical vignettes about fairies and other mythical women. It was far too twee, too predictable, too fantasy-gauzy, and too casual in its lazy appropriation of cultures. Which is too bad, as I was interested in and inspired by a number of her creations.

This is an absolutely beautiful book. Not only does it contain great challenging projects, but the stories, in-depth illustrations and presentation of the ideas behind each piece make it a real treasure. I've been inspired over and over by this book.

HOly cow, Batman, what a beautifully strange artisitic perspective. Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous book that makes a girl want to create with gusto.
