And now it's official, I found another favorite author!
Julian is an incredible narrator and I really enjoyed his sense of humor and the fact that he knows what he wants and he knows what he is like. He pursues Daniel, at first trying to be near him, doing things his roommate does, trying to be seductive, but he never pretends to be someone else, he is not a deceiver. He was so cute in his klutziness and I think I have rarely laughed so much while reading as with the touch football sc More...

I really enjoyed this book. I was expecting it to be all laughs and humorous (especially after the opening football scene), but it was very different. It started off light and then turned into an emotional roller coaster! This book has it all. Danny was breaking my heart, but in the end I completely understood his reservations about pursuing a relationship with Julian. And the final scene was absolutely beautiful. Julian also had a lot growth throughout this book.

This is a nice, light read, reminiscent of a comfort-go-to romantic comedy. The story's told in 1st person and I really enjoyed being in Julian's head. He's a quirky, amusing guy who isn't ashamed of his sometimes over the top personality. I actually wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did but I adore quirky characters, so this was a good fit for me. The first book I picked up written by Ethan Day was Dreaming for You, and I had a hard time getting into it. But I may yet go back

So you know those days when you want to go to the movies and when you go to pick one you think to yourself, it doesn't need to be an award-winning movie, it just needs to have a sweet romance and some good laughs. On the one hand this was a sweet & humorous love story & I liked Julian's voice in the story. On the other, the flashbacks were really annoying. Maybe it was where they were placed. Just when something happens in the present time is when we get a flashback & not a very quick one either.
Also Danny, the love interest, is not very fleshed out at all. We know about him from what we're told is his past & what happens in flashbacks, but in present day, there is very little Julian/Danny i More...

I picked up this one because I was told that it was funny. While it did have a few situations that cracked me up, it wasn't what I was expecting. Julian is a great character and his personality is almost addicting. I loved the fact that it only showed his side of things instead of switching POVs.
What I didn't like were the flashbacks. They are also the main reason why I haven't read the rest of Ethan Day books. He has this style that keeps the tension up by stopping the current stor More...

Okay, I’m admitting to you here and now that this is the FIRST Ethan Day book I’ve ever read. Not because I never wanted to but because I haven’t found the time to read him. Well, I’m so happy I got the opportunity to finally read the famous Ethan Day!
This particular book is told in the first person. I don’t have a preference when it comes to reading POV, just as long as the dialogue is there. I don’t want to spend an eternity in the person’s head the whole time and Ethan did a wond More...

I don't know if Ethan Day, the author, is like one of his characters, but I like to think so, since Julian from As You Are, Aden from Dreaming of You and Davis from Self Preservation, are men that I'd like to know, and they have all one thing in common, they firmly believe in Love, in The One that will make you happy, and despite the age, or the time spent waiting for him, they know that sooner or later the happily ever after will be there also for them.

I waver back and forth on how to rate this book. On the one hand, it was quite funny in parts and showcases Ethan Day's humor that we've come to expect and love. On the other hand, there are some themes that make me very angry when they crop up in books. Themes that in my mind are unforgivable and changes how I view the characters. Once such an event comes into play in a book, I can't disengage my mind from that action and the rest of the book and the characters become colored by it.

All Julian wants in love. He wants to find that perfect person and live happily ever after with them. Julian is in love with his roommate Danny and it seems Danny is not looking for that. Julian tries so hard for Danny to notice him but finally gives up and now it trying to “hate” him to get over his feelings. However it is hard for Julian because he feels Danny gives him mixed signals. So to get over Danny Julian decides to go out on a date but now the relationship between Danny and Julian

Julian Hallowel is smart, cute, and somewhat manic. He meets with his best friend Gabby for lunch nearly everyday and they gossip about the problems of the world and especially within their own worlds. Julian's problem is his room-mate Danny; or rather, the fact that he is in love with Danny, but Danny doesn't seem to return his feelings. Everything in Julian's world seems to change the night he meets Andy.

I admit it... I gobbled this book down and I'd sit and do it all over again right this minute. Truly!
Ethan's been a favourite of mine since I saw, okay read, an interview he did with Amanda Young. By the time I got to the excerpt for Self Preservation, his first book, I was completely and utterly hooked. Not only is he a funny, funny man but he's got an imagination that rivals... well anyone's. The characters that he lets loose on the pages of his, to date, three books are believab More...

Ethan Day writes lovely, funny, sweet books that give stuff to think about. This book had all of that.
In this book Julian tells of his story, and of how he found love. Julian is a fantastic character, funny, kind a good friend, and a good son.
He is in love with his roommate Danny, but Danny does not love him back.
I fell in love with Danny instantly as I tend to do with Ethan characters, he was so funny and I loved his view of the world...

Actually, my rating would be 3.5.
[spoiler ahead]Things I didn't like (and this is strictly subjective here): I don't go for the whole present-past-present-past-present yo-yo. It's not that it was confusing or disorienting because the author was careful to keep the moments apart, it's just a preference of mine to read the events being presented in chronological order. A second thing that was a bit distracting was Julian's behavior towards the end. On the one hand, I could relate to his More...

Ethan Day rocks! I loved this book so much and just couldn't put it down. Julian, what a wonderful little character you are. He was so cute and charming and lovely and not afraid to be anything but himself. I fell in love with Danny instantly and could see the little signs that she showed his "Julie"...helloooo, look at me, I'm in love with youuuuu! They were just adorable together and perfect for each other. I'm convinced that no other man would get Julian and vice versa...soul mates

This was a very sweet and funny story. I love the characters that Ethan Day comes up with. They are crazy in a good way! Both the main charachters and the secondary characters.
I like Julians sweet and somewhat naive nature, although he had to do some growing to realize what he needed to do to get what he wants. Danny and Julian are the perfect example of how people need to talk with each other rather than just assume what other people are thinking and feeling. Of course this is easi More...

I wasn’t really feeling inspired when I picked this book up…so it’s probably better than I thought it was.
Julian Hallowell believes in love…with a capital L and fireworks, roses, and singing Disney birds around the word. He longs for it so badly, and he thinks everyone around him should feel the same way. Right now he’s head over heels in love with his superhot roommate, and since it’s clear by now that his prince charming isn’t going to return his feelings he’s been working on an “ More...

This is a funny book at the beginning, but the plot makes me cringes. I don't like cheater. Especially when the cheating is done to spite the other guy, when he knew the other guy is in love with him. <spoiler> Frankly, Danny is lucky because there's a fundamental difference between Julian and Andy. That's basically what prevented Julian to go steady with him. Had Andy not been a Republican and Baptist, after what Danny did to Julian, there's a good chance that sooner or later Julian would

I'm starting to think that all Mr. Day's lead characters are lunatic flaming drama queens. Julian's character reminds me of Boone in Sno Ho. Julian is flaking like his mother accused him to be. His friend Gaby feeds into his zaniness. I don't know if in real life I'd want to have anything to do with Julian since he's so exhausting. He annoys me with his "ideal true love" too. More than 1/2 the things Julian does or says makes me roll my eyes and want to slap him upside the head.

Ahhhhh....it was soooo wonderful to read another Ethan Day book! I've only read one other so far, but I just LOVE his writing, and I was so glad to say that he did a fabulous job once again in As You Are.
Although Julian is very set in his ways and has pretty unrealistic expectations of life and love, and while he may be quirky to others, I just loved him. He says what he feels, he is honest, true, and loyal. On top of all that, he's fricking hysterical! Oh, I'd just love to be on More...

First of all I must say I liked this book. Really enjoy it, and probably it could have my 5 stars. So why I'm giving 3? Because the writer is not new to me... I read two AMAZING DELICIOUS romance called Sno Ho and the sequel Life in Fusion... and that's the problem.
As you are is a very good romance, and Julian is a funny narrator... but unfortunately I really despise Danny, the slut. <spoiler> Unfortunately I didn't buy the thing Danny was a slut because he was trying to deny More...

Read as part of the GB challenge and recommended to me by Tana (thanks!)
I totally fell in love with Ethan Day after reading Sno Ho and Life In Fusion so was excited to have another of his books on my GB challenge list.
I didn't love this quite as much as the other two but it was still a 5 star read. The same funny writing is there and Julian is a great MC.

This is the second story that I've read by Ethan Day (he has 3 out and the other one has been moved up on my TBR list) and I've added him as a favorite author. I love his characters, they felt very real. I wanted Julian and Danny to end up together, but that's not what it looked like was gonna happen. Andy seemed like such a nice sweet guy and for a while I wasn't sure which way Julian would go. It's written in 1st person, but I hardly even noticed because I was so caught up in the storyline.

"As you are" by Ethan Day can be sincerely described as an enjoyable read. The storyline was cute, the characters really lovely (although I hated Danny for a while) but at the end, everything was pretty predictable. I could almost guess what was going to happen from the beginning. It's a typical romance novel with no additional plot. it's a really light read that every fan of this genre will enjoy.

I gave this book 3 stars because Ethan Day is such a great writer and the book had many parts that made me smile or laugh. However, as a romance I would give this 2 stars.
The book is told in the first person by Julian and he is quite the character. I loved him. He told the story in such a funny way. In one scene, he was remembering being dragged out to play football by his roommate Danny. Julian didn't want to play. He thought back to high school P.E. and these were his thoughts..." More...

I am gradually working my way through Ethan Day's books and so far have enjoyed all of them. I really enjoy his charectorisations and flawed protags. Some people who have reviewed this book have not enjoyed the flash-backs in the book whilst I on the other hand rather liked them, so I guess its different strokes for different folks. 4 stars as it is a book I will probably pick up and read again.
