How to get over yourself and love a book to spite your own brain.

I should hate such a delusional, judgy, twinkzilla of an MC, yet do not.

I should detest another plot that could be neatly resolved with a five-minute conversation, yet do not.

I should revile the parade of cliche supporting characters, like the sassy mom, or the neurotic fag-hag, or any of them, really.

I should scorn them all, yet do not.

Because one chapter in, I'm charmed by the MC, careless of the standard plot, and infatuated wit

I always dislike re-reading a book in audio format because if I loved a book the first time, a bad narration can kill the memory of a good story for me. However, with As You Are, I didn't adore the book the first time around (in 2014), and I've been waiting for a chance to try Jason Frazier's narrations, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

First of all, let me say that Jason Frazier did NOT let me down. He was seriously awesome as a narrator, doing a huge range of voices and really sho

Julian is a hopeless romantic... a picky, spoiled, outspoken romantic who is on the hunt for "Mr. Right". Now, I know I sound like I'm criticizing him but I'm not, I swear! I liked that Julian wasn't the typical "perfect" romantic hero. He was flawed and funny and I found him incredibly endearing.

This book felt like an Ethan Day book. All of the books that I've read from him have had this adorable, manic sense of humor. I loved some of the one-liners in this book so hard. Julian wa

GOOFY GRIN…plastered on face. Me. Happy.

I can read the friends-to-soulmates storyline all day, every day. Especially if it’s written with charm and goofiness and hilarity and warmth…

This is my first Ethan Day book (HOW CAN THIS BE?!!!!) and his “voice” makes me laugh! I love the MC, Julian. He’s the kind of guy that I just want to hang out with, drink with, people-watch with, and laugh with. And the one-liners in this book are PRICELESS. Silly, but not cheesy. That takes talent. I was

This was super cute!

Cute little friends to lovers. It had some laugh out loud moments. Low on the steam scale. A little too too much rambling but overall enjoyable. I'll definitely check out this author's other books. 3.5 Stars.

Ethan Day writes lovely, funny, sweet books that give stuff to think about. This book had all of that.

In this book Julian tells of his story, and of how he found love. Julian is a fantastic character, funny, kind a good friend, and a good son.

He is in love with his roommate Danny, but Danny does not love him back.

I fell in love with Danny instantly as I tend to do with Ethan characters, he was so funny and I loved his view of the world...

But Julian has created this world in his head that he coul

I really enjoyed this book. I was expecting it to be all laughs and humorous (especially after the opening football scene), but it was very different. It started off light and then turned into an emotional roller coaster! This book has it all. Danny was breaking my heart, but in the end I completely understood his reservations about pursuing a relationship with Julian. And the final scene was absolutely beautiful. Julian also had a lot growth throughout this book.

This was a cute story from Ethan Day. But it was more than cute, it was romantic, and heartbreaking, and several rollercoasters worth of emotional ups and downs. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me consider if it was possible to throw a fictional character to the sharks–-’cause there is douchebaggery and then there is dickish douchebaggery of the most assholic kind, and I’m pretty sure I know which kind Danny threw himself into. I wasn’t expecting quite the journey I was taken on, and I ...more

And now it's official, I found another favorite author!

Julian is an incredible narrator and I really enjoyed his sense of humor and the fact that he knows what he wants and he knows what he is like. He pursues Daniel, at first trying to be near him, doing things his roommate does, trying to be seductive, but he never pretends to be someone else, he is not a deceiver. He was so cute in his klutziness and I think I have rarely laughed so much while reading as with the touch football scene in the b

Ethan Day has done it again, written another book I love. He has such a way with words and such a great sense of humor the books I’ve read from him so far have never failed to make me laugh out loud. Julian... he is funny and sweet someone you would be happy and lucky to have in your life and even though he was the one that was hurting I thought he was such a strong character. Normally I don’t like women in my M/M stories but if they are like Gabby and a BFF I love it. It was funny when

I need more Ethan Day in my life. He writes with the best humor. I'd LOVE to be friends with all of his MCs. Julian has to be my favorite, by far. There are so many quotable LAUGH OUT LOUD moments (even if they're during an angsty part of the story). Only Day could pull that off as well as he does. I wanted to smack Danny in the head and I fear I relate entirely too much with Julian (may be why he's one of my favorite characters ever). Funny while still angsty. Great read! Can't wait for my next ...more

Totally loved it. Fell in love again. This man has such a way with humor and emotion and characters that are so...just normal. Not the perfect person, the kind of people we all know and probably are, to a certain extent, flawed and clumsy, needy and hopeful. I love reading Ethan Day's work. A definite recommend.

So... This is how this little gem of a book made me feel...

...and I can't seem to wipe the face-splitting grin off my face just yet. This was my first Ethan Day book, and it will certainly not be my last!

As You Are is hilarious, sweet, with just the right amount of angst, and it's just the perfect book for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Julian is a firm believer in true love, but his views on romance are a little twisted. He's waiting for The One, but fails to see what's right in front of him, which is

OMG… I liked this book! Luckily I didn’t read it in public, it cracked me up so hard I couldn’t stop laughing out loud.

Julian is just… Julian. Funny, quirky, clumsy, a little nutty… and very gay… and in love with his roommate Danny. After more than one year of unrequited love he finally figures it’s time to get over his feelings for Danny and move on.

Exactly then Danny makes a move on Julian and these two have sex with each other. When Julian wakes up the next day Danny avoids Julian and does s

I finished this book and went 'awww' *g* I usually don't read many first person books, but I loved this one. Julien was a fabulous character and his personality and sense of humor totally sucked me into the book. Even though it's almost 200 pages, I read it in one sitting. I'll definitely be adding Ethan Day's backlist to my TBR pile.

Another fabulous romp from Ethan Day. I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of first person narratives, but Ethan's sense of humor wins me over every time. This story was just too cute for words.

I don't know if Ethan Day, the author, is like one of his characters, but I like to think so, since Julian from As You Are, Aden from Dreaming of You and Davis from Self Preservation, are men that I'd like to know, and they have all one thing in common, they firmly believe in Love, in The One that will make you happy, and despite the age, or the time spent waiting for him, they know that sooner or later the happily ever after will be there also for them.

Ethan Day and his men also represent perfe

First of all I must say I liked this book. Really enjoy it, and probably it could have my 5 stars. So why I'm giving 3? Because the writer is not new to me... I read two AMAZING DELICIOUS romance called Sno Ho and the sequel Life in Fusion... and that's the problem.

As you are is a very good romance, and Julian is a funny narrator... but unfortunately I really despise Danny, the slut. (view spoiler)

After reading the blurb, I am excited to read this. So there I go downloaded this book and started reading.

I want to give the other readers a chance to give this a try so I'll start to the things I liked about this book.

It's funny and sweet. You'll laugh reading this book. I also love the sarcasm of the MC.

I love Julian's parents. Though their appearances in the book is brief, I think they are both great characters.

But the it was a struggle read for me at some point. It started go

This is the second story that I've read by Ethan Day (he has 3 out and the other one has been moved up on my TBR list) and I've added him as a favorite author. I love his characters, they felt very real. I wanted Julian and Danny to end up together, but that's not what it looked like was gonna happen. Andy seemed like such a nice sweet guy and for a while I wasn't sure which way Julian would go. It's written in 1st person, but I hardly even noticed because I was so caught up in the storyline.

Julian has been in love with his best friend and roommate, Danny, forever. He believes they'd be perfect together, but Danny loves not being shackled to a relationship and would much rather move from man to man. He isn't looking for love, like Julian, he just wants instant pleasure.

I was disappointed with this book for a number of reasons.

1. There was absolutely no build up of the relationship between Julian and Danny. Much of their interaction was told in flashbacks. We see how they grew to be

3.75 stars I feel like this audiobook caught me at exactly the right moment. Julianne was kinda annoying. And I didn't like how we had two little flashbacks during high intensity scenes and I wanted to scream, "I don't give a fuck about your grandma's funeral, go back to telling me about the first kiss!!!" But I kinda ugly cried a couple times (view spoiler) ...more

I picked up this one because I was told that it was funny. While it did have a few situations that cracked me up, it wasn't what I was expecting. Julian is a great character and his personality is almost addicting. I loved the fact that it only showed his side of things instead of switching POVs.

What I didn't like were the flashbacks. They are also the main reason why I haven't read the rest of Ethan Day books. He has this style that keeps the tension up by stopping the current story when it's

Another Gem plucked from the Goody Bag that is Ethan Day. This started off as a 3.5 star, it was nice. Lacked some of the zazz of Sno Ho 1&2 but was still very much enjoyable. THEN BOOM! Ha! Bitches!, then came some angst and hell yes it felt GOOD! I love me some small scale angst with my fluff and yep, bumped it up to 5 stars. I can't help it, these books are like crack to me! I was so in the mood for snarky queen & this book delivered. Julian was a wonderfully neurotic character with the kind of one-liners that made me laugh out loud. This was a refreshingly fun read & I will happily investigate the rest of this authors books. Highly recommended for lovers of romance that is light on the erotica but heavy on the snark & glitter.
