Boy, did this book ever grow on me! I wasn't so sure in the beginning if this was a book that I even wanted to read. I didn't particularly care for the heroine's back story and thought this might be a dnf. The hero’s history is what made me sit up and take notice and not give up. It had me intrigued from the moment I heard it. I applause RG for making him so realistic with flaws and all. That’s a trend in her books that has made her an auto buy for me.

Just what the doctor ordered. I was having issues getting into any book - not the books' fault but rather my state of mind. Just for this book, I also think my rating scale needs adjustment. Sometimes, if a book hits all components needed within the reader, at the time being read, it should count whether it is terribly unique, cranks on emotions, demonstrates exemplary writing, etc. Sometimes, just because, is good enough. This one is a 5 Star read for me, just because.

I give this book 4 stars, not because it's a literary masterpiece, but because when you pick up something called "The Trouble with Valentine's Day" you can't be expecting too much. It was predictable and all that jazz, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The scenes of a sexual nature are BY FAR the most graphic we've read for book club... can't wait to hear what the moms think!
I think I'm in Valentine's Day mood already. And this book is a perfect way to start my V's Day marathon. So if you have any book suggestions, please let me know.
Regarding this book... I really liked it, mostly because I always enjoy flawed characters and Rob definitely fits this category. Although he did some pretty bad things in the past, I still liked him. After all the things he went through, I had no doubts he would change. He admitted his mistakes and had no wish to repeat them.

I liked this book quite a bit -- even more than I anticipated. I enjoy Gibson's work in general, but I have to admit that some of her books are better than others. I rather expected this one to be among those "others" when I bought it, simply because Rob Sutter never impressed me much in the other Chinooks books. However, I'm very happy to say I was wrong. Rob was a fun character with quite a bit of substance to him, as was Kate. The interactions between these two were very entertaining but also...more
I've blown through the first two of this series pretty fast and I am very happy with the outcome and story of book 3. This book breaks up the series structure nicely so that it doesn't get that repetitive feel to it. The only pattern I see so far, is the journey the hero and heroine take. If that's all that seems to stay the same for this series, I'd say this will end up being on my favorites list.

Contemporary romance with protected sex.
Rob Sutter, who appeared in "See Jane Score" is the male lead in this book. He's settled down in Gospel, Idaho, the town featured in "True Confessions". Dillon & Hope from that book make appearances, as well as other quirky small town characters. His mom works at the town clinic as a nurse.

Each time I read a Rachel Gibson book I am reminded of how much I enjoy her writing style.
I love a strong heroine. In this offering, Kate Hamilton fits the bill perfectly. She is a former PI from Vegas moving to a small Idaho town to be with her grandfather. She has a reputation as being a real 'ball buster' and is called manly by some. While she may be tall and brash, she is still all woman. The hero is former Chinook hockey player, Rob Sutter. I loved this story. I give it a 4/5 stars because while I did love it, and I think in terms of writing and story and character development, Gibson has shown a lot of improvement in this one, the story itself is sweet and charming but not enchanting and does not scream You-have-to-read-this-or-you're-going-to-die.
This story was a bit more removed from all the other hockey stories in the series, which is why I put it off till last, and why I came back to it now when I wanted to take a break from a...more

Just ok.
I picked up this author from amazon as she appeared in the same lists as sep, whose books are great.
However this was not half as good.
The heroine tries to pick up a guy at a bar for sex. He rejects her and she is humiliated.
She goes on to stay with her grandfather in the small town of Gospel and it turns out this guy, the hero, is also resident there. She is initially embarrassed and there is conflict between the pair until they eventually get it on.

Kate Hamilton should know. Dumped by her boyfriend, burnt out by her job, she's returned to Gospel, Idaho, where a Mountain Momma Crafters' original poetry reading is about as good as it gets on a Friday night. Then her first attempted seduction of a hunky stranger is completely rejected. So much for her self-esteem!
It turns out that Rob Sutter, former ice hockey madman, owner of Sutter's Sports--and the hunky stranger who told her to get lost--has been more than burned by love and isn't looking...more

This is the 6th or 7th book I've read by Rachel Gibson and I'm wondering if I'll ever read one that I feel deserves less than 5 stars. Not that I'm complaining...not at all. It's just that each book I've read has been totally different from the others...each plot fresh, the characters unique (but always enjoyable) and the romantic aspect feels as if it was written specifically for that hero and heroine. That is pretty amazing for an author to achieve among her stand-alone books, but to pull it o...more
Cute story! I loved it!
Although I wish it was more hockey related.
Rob is retired from Hockey, so other than watching a game on TV and a few Google searches, Hockey pretty much wasn't involved in this book -
But that didn't make it any less of a good story :) I still love the big strong Hockey player that he is.. He played as an enforcer so he was use to getting his own way.
The book starts off with a bit fax pas - Kate is sitting in a bar in Sun Valley over looking her life.. Men suck - she had...more

This was a book about a former-PI who comes back to her small-town after a disastrous attempt at locating a family, which ended in death. She wanted to come back home to get away from it all. She makes a pitstop at a bar on Valentine's Day where she propositions a guy and he turns her down. She feel defeated but not more so when this same guy turns out to own the sports store next to her grandfather's grocery store (where she is helpful out). As it turns out, the guy is a former-NHL player whose...more

I know I'm reading the Chinooks series in the reverse order but I'm beginning to appreciate the latter books in the series with the exception of "True Love - A Disaster (as applicable only to RG's lead pairs)"
Heroine is a burn-the-rhinestone-bra women's lib type who fights for womanly rights to more sex than substance..well! not complaining:))) just saying!

The trouble with Valentine`s Day- Rachel Gibson
I loved this book! Not of the bests I have read but it really was a terrific read, definitely much better than the first 2 books in this series. I just felt like singing: "It must be love", from Madness . Just like watching one of those amazing romantic movies that leave you all cozy inside. **sigh**.
In this book we have our sexy hot hero, Rob, described as one of those guys too sexy to be real, almost a GQ guy (not being really one because he's too rough and manly, lol). P.E.R.F.E.C.T....more

I really liked the two characters in this one and I would have probably have given it 5 stars if not for two things:
The first sex scene. YICK. I was with it through the whip cream on the boobs until he basically throws her down on the floor and does her like a dirty dog. Ew. That may be some people's thing, but I like respect. (Honestly, it wasn't about the sexual position, it was about the WAY he did it. No.)
The heroine never really had her "I figured out what I want to do with my life" moment....more

I love a good, quick-read, especially when it is Chick Lit. The main characters were well developed. Sometimes backgrounds of characters are only mentioned briefly, but the history of these characters and their personal experiences really shaped who they were and how they acted in their relationship. The plot was fairly typical. Two characters who didn't click initially find themselves in a situation, and their relationship develops from there. But it was fun novel that flowed really well. I know I've read this book before but I don't remember enjoying it quite this much.
Kate Hamilton does something impulsive and completely out of character when she propositions Rob Sutter. She was embarrassed when he turned her down but completely mortified when she discovered that he lived in the same small town as her grandfather. Kate moved to Gospel, Idaho when a case she had taken as a private investigator in Las Vegas went horribly wrong.

The beauty of the written word is that everyone can find a book they love. I have enjoyed this series but this book didn't ring my bell. When I was reading the reviews for The Trouble With Valentines Day they ran the gamut from 2 stars to 5 stars. Usually I'm at the higher end of the spectrum. Not this time. It was just an average book in my option and I'm actually glad I'm done with it. It could just be the mood I'm in (I was looking...more

Without a doubt this is my favorite Chinooks' book so far (I'm not reading them in order, I didn't know there was one before... ).

I so love the main characters. Kate Hamilton’s tenacity didn’t hinder Rob Sutter from lover her. In fact, it made him love her even more. I understand Rob for not taking so much risk at first because of his past. But his cautiousness only made him one hell of a lonely man. Their escape from the past lead them to find each other.

Rachel was born in Boise, Idaho, USA. Her father worked for a telephone company, and her mother was a house wife. Idaho has the largest population of Basques outside of the Basque lands of Spain. She grew up with kids with last names like Uberuaga, Berriochoa, and Egisquiza, but years later she discovered the rest of the country didn't really know much about the Basque culture or history.
