I bought this book because I know anything by this author is going to be good. However, I did go into reading this book with the expectation that it would be the nuts and bolts of how to study the Bible; like tips and how-to's of what to do to get the most out of your daily Bible reading. While there were many tips and practical suggestions, this book was way beyond a simple self-help book. Dr. MacArthur digs deep, yet in a simple way, of how to study the Bible. I am going through this book with the Junior High Girls at my church. It has been so helpful to challenge them. The concepts are pretty basic and easy for them to understand. It helps back up why we should do quiet times. All of us can relate to the fact that it is easier to do something regularly if you know the reason for it.

Because the content is not on "how to" until the last pages, I give it a 3. And then, the "how to" I can't agree with. I would never recommend his method to someone reading the Bible for the first time.

Great book. Really gives good insight on how to go about knowing how to understand the Bible as well the best way to read it. MacArthur is one of my favorite preachers.
