The Wilde Stories anthologies are uniformly all superb. Rather than my usual method of going through every story in the collection, I’m going with a different approach – picking out my favourite five stories from the whole deck (in order of table of contents, and not quality.)

(It was going to be three, but I can’t choose between them, so you’re getting five.)

Firooz and his Brothers by Alex Jeffers – sumptuous and slyly erotic. Of the stories by Jeffers I’ve read up til now, he does seem to excel

I bought this for the Hal Duncan story and on the strength of the 2008 compilation by the same name. I was not disappointed and enjoyed the majority of stories. They’re frequently weird and stay with you, not to mention tantalisingly erotic. I knew I was getting into a mixed bag of topics and writing styles and didn’t expect to like everything but I enjoyed the work as whole and would recommend it to any fan of alternative, experimental or gay fiction. Spooky and charming.

Just started this--Berman's tastes are darker than mine, but he has an eye for mood in stories, and complex characters. I'll have more to say when I've read further, but so far, this would make a splendid gift for someone who is looking for gay spec fic.

Some of the stories were good, some mediocre, and some rather bad. As a whole, the book was okay. I don't think all of them qualified as speculative fiction.

Some tidbits about me...

I turned down a scholarship to Miskatonic University because I heard of the high rate of incidents against the student population.

I briefly worked for Omni Consumer Products in their Marketing Department. Great benefits, nice cafeteria, sadly too prone to executive whim.

Last year I stayed at the noted Mauna Pele resort in Hawaii. The accommodations were impressive but my tr
