MANN, Thomas: „Mario und der Zauberer. Ein tragisches Reiserlebnis“, Berlin 2011
Thomas Mann beschreibt eine Urlaubsreise mit seiner Familie nach Italien. Wie er von den einheimischen Italienern als Deutscher zweitklassig behandelt wurde und so gekränkt aus dem Hotel auszog. Der Schwerpunkt des Buches bezieht sich aber auf eine Vorstellung eines Hypnotiseurs. Eine Vorstellung, die als Zauberkünstler angekündigt war und letztendlich eine Manipulation des Publikums wurde.

Beautiful language, brilliantly written. You get more out of it if you read it in German though.
Only read it for school. It is one of the most boring books I've ever read!
Very helpful, I love this allegory.
While the idea of the story was interesting; I fail to see and understand what is so good and thought provoking about it. My teacher praised its revolutionary thinking and messages, but I found them dull and poorly translated. Maybe if the story was not as dry as the Sahara Desert I would have cared more, but since that is not the case I do not care for this story and the only reason that anyone should read it is if told to by a teacher.
For Uni. Beginning was good, and that was already it. Not a book that I plan to ever read again.
