I really like the character, Drummond. This is the 3rd book I have read by the author, Haig. I love the fact that all of Haig's books are in and around Washington, D.C. as well as abroad and that the politics in the book are not written like an episode of The West Wing- where a major in Poly-Sci and an active knowledge of current and past world politics are required to know what the heck is going on...not that it is entirely spelled out for you in the book. This was OK for it's intended purpose, although I found the main character a little too snarky for my liking. For that matter, all of the characters were very one-dimensional and stereotypical, right down to the gets-everything-done-smartmouthed-middle-aged-black-woman-assistant. Brian Haig writes about a Judge Advocate General named Drummond who is a bit of an everyman and an ex-special forces operative and a very lucky/unlucky lawyer, with some James Bond elements thrown into the plot (such as sexy women and espionage). I'm a third of the way through Kingmaker, but so far it reads just like Mortal Allies, which was pretty entertaining as well.

Suspense fans
Brian Haig just doesn't go wrong! I hate that he writes only one a year, but by doing so he keeps his quality writing high. These books are full of suspense, thrills and humor. I see Travolta as Sean Drummond. I'm hoping for a movie someday.

I liked this book, like I have all of Brian Haig's books. I love the main character -- his style, his wit. It's got some potty talk, so beware of that, but it's a smart book and I liked it.

I listened to this on tape while driving and enjoyed every minute of it. Can't say I remember all of it, so maybe I should actually read it.

Pure entertainment. Great story. Good action and twists. Not great literature but nonetheless a very enjoyable read.
